I've paid $32,501 of a $34,000 student loan for my undergrad, and yet I still owe $31,746 of the "principle" because my payments went to interest. This is BS! This is why student loans should be forgiven. It's not the loans we can't pay off, it's the unfair interest rates!
My college son is taking a Literature of the Sea class and he texted to ask if I had any of the four titles on their syllabus and reader I HAVE ALL OF THEM I’VE NEVER FELT SO NEEDED!🤣
@Jayne_Martin
EXACTLY. When we say forgive student loans what we’re really saying is eliminate the interest. I’m ok repaying for my education. I’m not ok lining the pockets of banks.
Currently at opposite ends with my husband when it comes to how we relax at night. He listens to loud music and I read. And nowhere in our house is it quiet enough for me to read when he’s listening to music. Who else thinks he should just wear headphones? 🤚🏽
@ericajberry
Aw I love this. I am also surrounded by elderly neighbors and we don’t have parties so I give them food. I’d been giving one of my elderly neighbors homemade chicken soup for years until another neighbor told me he was a vegetarian! He was just too nice to refuse my soup 🥰

We don’t have billboards in Vermont. They made it a state law in the 70s. It’s gorgeous here and feels like another world when I go out of state. I hate all the ads.
I run a small press and tomorrow we’ll be releasing our 11th book of the year!!! For reference, last year we released 12 books in 12 months so I’m patting myself on the back and then going to sleep 😂
My 21yo son and his girlfriend broke up and I’m so heartbroken! She was like one of the family and I really want to reach out to her to see if she’s ok but that’s probably an overreach right?
I’ve been married for 9 years and my sister-in-law JUST requested to follow me on Instagram in case you’re wondering what it’s like to marry into a New England family 🙄.
I did it, got to the hospital just in time. My fever spiked and while my O2 is fine, my heart rate and blood pressure are super high. Waiting on a second chest X-ray. Thanks for all your love and support. Gonna hop off here now and focus on my health & healing from pneumonia ☮️
Look when I was in my MFA program my advisor told me my novel about a 90s kid being lost and found wasn’t worth pursuing and I shelved it but now with all my GenXer nostalgic support, I see it’s time. I’m gonna write the motherfucking shit out of that lost 90s kid.
@JenniferFranku1
Soul of an Octopus by St Montgomery, The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway, In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick and People of the Whale by Linda Hogan. But I would totally add POD by Laline Paull to this list.
@shschem
@msblackteach
It worked in the 90s but cannot work now. Salaries haven’t increased but price and especially school loans have. Anyone saying because they did it thirty years ago means someone can do it now is way out of touch.
@emmagannon
Ugh. I absolutely LOVE solo hikes in the woods and get scared every time I pass a lone man on a hiking trail. I recently got a dog and I feel so angry yet also relieved that hiking with a dog now makes me feel less anxious.
I want to go to the house of every family with a new baby and hold the baby the mom sleeps and then feed her soup and homemade bread what’s wrong with me.
Back when I was skinny and people wore watches and I hiked mountains and raised a boy all on my own. So grateful for this life. And to all the single moms out there, you got this. One day you’ll wake up and your tiny human will be grown and amazing. This little man is 21 today!

: I am editing a poem (not mine) and flagged the phrase "Auschwitz-thin" in a poem about describing a cancer patient. I think it should be changed. The poet does not. What do you think? Is this an insensitive use of holocaust trauma?
@EmilyHoli13
Was this out in public? Because public places are not where one goes for quiet time. Tell her to take a hike. Literally. In the woods if she wants quiet time 🤦🏻♀️
I got Covid 😩. Also my husband is taking over making my mother’s chicken soup recipe and he just now learned the difference between a parsnip and a turnip 😆. He’s 45.
All the people telling me I should have picked a cheaper school (what’s cheaper than 30 grand for a BA degree?) and a better major/job are like those who say stop buying avocado toast and you can afford a house. People 👏🏽 the system 👏🏽 is broken 👏🏽 not me! 👏🏽
My husband just interrupted me in my writing office (& I was in the middle of writing a scene and was in a FLOW!) to tell me he was throwing away the leftover pizza, in case anyone wants to know what it's like to be a writer with a husband and kids in the house🤦♀️

just a few minutes ago. Please stay safe everyone! We’re on vacation on Cape Cod so we’re safe thank goddess (while our basement back home floods tho 😩).

I met my husband the night I took my friend out to a bar to celebrate her divorce and teach her how to pick up guys (here’s a plot for any romance writers out there)! What’s your meet cute story?
I GOT A FULL REQUEST! On my thesis novel which I resurrected for this small press I discovered, but had stopped sending it out years ago. But I still have hope this quirky, sad, sweet little novel will find a home!

Taking my son to the ER for the second time in a week. His fever is 103.5 and it's been going for 13 days with all sorts of negative tests so hopefully they'll do a full blood panel and figure out what infection is causing this. Please send good vibes thank you.
@ambernoelle
Thank you. I’ve been thinking of how to frame it for my experience and this is exactly it. I also realize my grief over the experience wasn’t grief over the abortion itself but of the demonization of it. How I had to walk with body guards thru pro-lifers to visit my doctor.
@SarahKapit
Wasn’t this the entire plot of Turning Red? 🤣 and yes you are correct it’s a dysfunctional relationship to control your child’s life that much
@WannerCheryl
Same. I think women are more conditioned to automatically not take up space (including loud music in the house when other people are home) and men don’t think like that.
My new drug of choice is that high you get from a full request because I JUST GOT A FULL REQUEST and I am high as a kite (and no, my ms is not full of cliches like that I'm just too dizzy to think!!!). 🤪
#amquerying
GAH!
I have 245 books on my TBR pile. My husband says I should stop buying books. My answer: But how will indie bookstores and debut authors and poets survive? 🤣
I just opened my Book Ideas document and found I have synopses written for 9 novels, 11 picture books, and 5 nonfiction/memoir books. Now, where do I point myself? And, why can't I get an agent based on the 2 novels already written and am querying? I am clearly a gold mine.
@ambernoelle
Hahahaha omg. Solidarity. Yesterday I told my daughter to ignore the tag on her sweatshirt at the playground. She told she can’t and burst into tears and then I was the mom who made her own kid cry 🤦🏻♀️
@clhubes
It's proving object impermanence. The kids are little enough that when the parents are gone, they forget they exist, and then upon seeing them, assuming the have a healthy attachment to them, they remember they missed them. It's not traumatic. It's part of brain development.
@Travelnpack
@Jayne_Martin
I don’t think it’s fair to ask those who don’t support war to pay for it but that’s where our tax money is going. I’d rather fund people’s college. So your argument is moot.
A professor who is on sabbatical in my state is doing a library tour of Vermont where they read one thing, write one thing, and knit one thing in a different library each week and this is how I know Vermont is my people 💗.
@Brttnyblm
Aw that’s sweet! And thanks. It’s also complicated because she was our babysitter for our seven year old so now I’m not sure how to navigate that 😬
Not to toot my own horn (ok, I'm tooting!) but I run this little publishing house and 3 of our 11 titles published in 2022 are up for this book award out of 2500 entries, (and if anyone can do the math and let me know how much I'm winning at publishing, I'd appreciate it, LOL)!
@VGreenaway71
@ZoeDerinCrane
Because a book isn’t service like at a restaurant. An opinion about a book is subjective. And also just because the write one doesn’t mean everyone can contact them. That’s not what “being famous” is for.
My 6yo has a friend over who can’t have hard foods, sugar, or dairy but was this mom deterred at snack time? Nope! Bananas, mangoes, and raspberries were a huge hit and on this kiddo’s safe list.
#parenting
Thank you for all your prayers, well wishes & healing vibes. After some IV fluids and a zillion tests we ruled out clots and Covid & I have a new cough suppressant for this bronchial virus turned pneumonia. The prednisone made my heart rate spike to 120! Home and healing now 😚.

@MegStEsprit
What? What presents? My 2nd grader’s class did regular valentines. Some were homemade, some with candy, but no presents! We did a sheet of stickers from the dollar store ($6 for 20 sheets) for each kid in her class. Is that considered a present?
Ugh the impossible decision: bring sick college kid home and possibly expose the rest of us or let him suffer all alone? His fever is really bad and he’s shaky. I don’t want him alone in his dorm 😟. But if he comes home we might all get Covid 😭. Fuck this world.
This is big news in my town. Everyone’s talking about the porcupine at Hubbard Park. I’d been hearing about it for weeks and when I almost ran into it yesterday I screamed in excitement & yes, my town is a little bit like Northern Exposure 😂.
I just finished
@jeffvandermeer
’s BORNE (thanks for the rec
@pengshepherd
!) and the 1st page is one of the most masterful 1st pages of a novel I’ve read. Everything is here. Tone. Voice. Plot. World. Everything, in 3 little paragraphs! Genius. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I won the 2022 Capital City Farmers Market Fall Festival Pumpkin Pie Contest! And the best part? A visitor from Boston came up to me and said he came to the farmers market specifically to try my pie. Turned out he’s staying at my friend’s Airbnb and she told him to come 😂.
@NorthDakotaJane
@LeePottsPoet
Um...it's literally the point of art and literature...to be conversing with the world and other readers. You are no poet if you don't want anyone "conversing" with you. I converse with every poet I've ever read, from Whitman to Plath to myself. That is poetry.
I was at the ER with my daughter Monday (RSV and she’s ok), I’m at the vet for urgent care for my 17yo cat today, is it no wonder I want to run away and cry 😭 and seriously can I do this? Do I need permission to have a meltdown?
@romapancake
I feel like if publishing didn’t have to be tied to NYC it would be more sustainable. Like if you could work remotely you could live somewhere more affordable. But also they should pay a livable wage.
I’m on day 11 of being sick with Covid and am only minimally feeling better. Taste and smell starting to come back but not fully recovered. Just documenting. I’m pretty bummed because I think this virus is more insidious than the flu.
@rebeccamakkai
Is that the Prophet from Station Eleven? (All I can think is we’re living in ALL the dystopian post-apocalyptic novels at once. Very scary.)
A little bit of a vague tweet, but BIG THINGS are happening and I just want to share that today I secured a lawyer who's a working mom, and filed for an EIN for my new LLC, which is called Ziggy Media (after my pup :) and I am just so excited with all this!!!
So the FOURTH test (2nd PCR) came back positive for Covid. Wtf?! I’ve been symptomatic all week I don’t know how I evaded three tests! Anyway feeling crappy and hope it’s on the upswing. Stay safe out there folx. It’s just a matter of time we all get it now.
@ChateauBaconLLC
Seriously. And this is why I don’t / can’t donate as an alum. How am I supposed to support the school when I’m still paying for it from the first time I went there?! 🤦
