I remember running to the front of the lunch line as a kid so classmates wouldn't see my free lunch card. Simply put, no child or family should be shamed because they can't afford food. We should be helping them, not suing them. Thanks for standing with families, @pwcdanica .

Virginia lawmakers passed a ban on schools suing families to collect school lunch debt. The bill was introduced by Del. Danica Roem, who also helped ban schools tossing lunches if a student could not pay. She says 27 VA school districts have policies to sue over unpaid meals.

HB 1272 was up today and removes the ability for localities to require masks in schools. Before we remove masks, we need to follow the science to protect all students, and employ all tools to keep children safe including those who can't be vaccinated or the immunocompromised.

Diabetes Association gives a shout-out to @carterforva for carrying HB66 which made Virginia the 9th state to enact an insulin co-pay cap this year. We spent all morning in a drug affordability task force talking about the lack of transparency in drug pricing. More work to do.

As a religious an ethnic minority growing up in the western part of Virginia, I had to build bridges everywhere I went. As a member of both the Black Caucus and Rural Caucus in the House, I've seen how a fight for equity can bring us together. I’ll be an LG for all of Virginia.
