Went back and rewatched the games against the Rams, Dolphins, and Vikings, then wrote a bunch of words about how Joe Barry is using his two-high defensive structures to counter opponents week-to-week. Take a look!
Some really cool stuff on Love from Darius Slay on his podcast/YT show. Slay's obviously played a long time, faced a lot of QBs. Imo this type of unprompted praise isn't nothing.

DT Justin Jones blasted
#Packers
fans today, calling them...
1) "Shi*ty"
2) "Obnoxious"
3) "Half of them don't even know football."
Jones wishes Aaron Rodgers was still there so they could beat him.

@Sam_DHolman
I don’t understand the hype around Kenny Clark, look at his numbers they are ok but not elite. They need a force like Aaron Donald who is a game changer. I would be for an upgrade in the draft
So, to recap, last night the 2022 Packers rookie class had:
101 receiving yds
9 receptions
9 total tackles (8 solo)
3 PBUs
2.5 sacks
2 TFLs
1 FF
And a partridge in a pear tree
Kingsley Enagbare is going to be
#verygood
. Tristan Wirfs is one of the best right tackles in the league, and Enagbare (coming from offscreen) beats him clean with a longarm-snatch-swim.
Things I'm looking forward to seeing the most next season:
Wyatt's first sack
Quay's first splash play
Christian Watson's first long TD.
Reed/Clark/Wyatt all on the field together
The first Sul/Jaire/Stokes joint celebration after a pick.
Gary destroying people
Don't know if it would've mattered given where they were in the game, but . . . man, looks like Rodgers had about 3 other guys open when he threw that incomplete fade to Lazard on 4th down. Great video by
@kurt13warner
. You can watch the whole thing here:
After rewatching Wyatt's game, I thought he played quite well even if the box score doesn't reflect it. At the very least he was decidedly better than last week, despite facing superior competition. I decided to clip every snap he took against the Chiefs starting OL (Thread)
I'm a little bit scarred from the hype the DL got last offseason, but still, it's hard not to be excited about what Year 2 Wyatt could look like next to Kenny and Slaton
ENAGBARE MEGATHREAD STARTS HERE:
This dude is such a fun player. I have no idea how he fell to the 5th round. He constantly finds ways to disrupt the passing game, and put some very nice play vs the run on film. (Cont.)
Christian Watson's TDs were awesome, but I loved this catch as well. 3rd down and gotta convert. Watson runs a drag, feels the LB, and slows down to stay open a little longer. If he had kept running, he would've re-covered himself and the throw would have ended up behind him.
Tbh I don't think this is on Jaire. GB audibles to a Drop 8 cvg - looks like a version of Cover 2. You can even see Amos slapping his thighs - which imo is signalling "squat" tech to Jaire (referring to how he should play the C2 flat). He's SUPPOSED to play aggressive on the flat
In his previous stints as DC, Joe Barry has faced the Bears 6 times. In those games, he is 4-2. His defenses have gotten:
13 interceptions (!)
14 sacks (!)
8 FF (!)
and have allowed:
22.8 PPG
60.8 completion percentage.
Happy Bears week,
#Packers
fans.
De'Vondre Campbell's movement skills in coverage are so impressive. Stays step for step on this whip route from the
#3
receiver in empty (Tyler Boyd). So glad to have
@Came_Along_Way
re-signed for years to come!

I have become convinced Jordan Love is actually good. I made a video explaining why. It’s time for you to take the Jordan Love pill; prepare yourself for another smooth transition at QB in Green Bay
QUAY WALKER MEGATHREAD PT. 2
Was able to watch South Carolina and Tennessee. I have a couple clips from the SC game, but most are vs. Tennessee. I thought that might be the best tape from Quay I've watched so far. Dominant stuff.
Underrated part of the Doubs TD: Njiman shutting down Von Miller. Great first step and independent hands helps him ride Miller around the edge. Njiman's hand usage has taken a noticeable step this year imo
#Packers
fans, Aaron Jones, Christian Watson, and Romeo Doubs are going to join Jordan Love in Cali to workout and start to try and get their timing down according to
@ArmedDangerQBS
This quote got a lot of run already but it was one of the more interesting parts of the interview to me. Based on the structures they played on defense, "simplifying" meant going back to their base install coverage stuff - C2, Qtrs, C8 - the stuff they were playing in preseason.
Man, this year might the most excited I've ever been for TC/preseason. A young WR/TE corps, Love, the young DL we've built, how last years rookie class looks, seeing what we've got in Odumegwu, seeing if Cox can make it. There's so much mystery around this version of the Packers.
If Jordan Love does take the reins this offseason I'd love to see GB prioritize getting a ball-winning pass catcher. Love is willing to put the ball up and trust his guys - it's something that's popped up on both his college and NFL tape imo.
Lol people need to realize that the only way to have Jaire shadow JJ is to have him in man coverage on every snap. Any DC who plays that much man is going to be killed with Mesh routes, Over routes, and rub concepts.
You know, it really sucks that the Packers haven’t had recent success drafting and developing a somewhat raw yet freakishly athletic edge rusher from the Big 10
"Jordan Love looked confident.. I'm sure he's learning a lot being in the QB room with Aaron Rodgers"

dives into Darius Slay's comments about Jordan Love

DL tidbit that probably only interests me: Barry and Montgomery have tweaked how the OLBs handle pullers. Previously they've been "spilling," ie. closing the inside gap created by the block (first 2 pics). Vs the Bucs, they started "boxing" (controlling the outside of the block).
Quay Walker Megathread starts here:
So far I love what I've seen from him in run support, coverage, and as a blitzer. In the run game he plays with great processing ability and uses his dominant physical attributes well. (cont)
The Lions disguise stuff a bit with a version of Cover 2 Invert, but c'mon 12, you've been in the league for over a decade and a half. You have plenty of protection. Your most trusted WR is wide open. THROW THE BALL
Rewatching the game, I actually thought Barry’s plan for 18 was quite sound. GB doubled him on the majority of passing plays (70%+). Did it a bunch of different ways too - lots of Fangio’s Zeus call, some Saban Cone stuff, etc. Execution was what really hurt GB, not the gameplan
Got a bunch of Karl Brooks clips (probably too many tbh), so I think it's time for a film thread. Got a lot from his games but I also scoured Youtube to get what Senior Bowl stuff I could, since that's one of the highest levels of competition he's faced. (🧵)
The trio of Preston Smith, Kingsley Enagbare and Justin Hollins combined for just two pressures last night, according to
@PFF
. It’d behoove the Packers to add another body — rookie or veteran — into the mix this spring.
I really like Rudy Ford, man. He's the robber in Cover 1 here. Does a great job hanging in the backside Dig window, then chases down Wilson short of the sticks.
Justin Hollins hasn't been as good as Mercilus was last year, but he's been a very solid pickup. Threatens upfield then lowers his head and drives Darrisaw back with a bull-rush.
The Packers keep experimenting with stuff up front. This is the first game in a while that they've called run stunts. Looks like Read-Pop (if RT+RG fan towards the OLB/3t the 3t sets a new edge by getting vertical while the OLB loops inside). Should be a TFL but Enagbare whiffs.
Imo Wyatt should be getting more playing time. He's not gonna be perfect, but he's done some nice stuff the last two weeks. Nice hand placement + base to hold the LOS here, creates separation with the inside hand, and draws a holding call as he attempts the block release.
I would've said coming into this year that Rodgers' ability to ID defenses was one of the Packers' biggest advantages. He's been objectively bad at reading defenses for significant stretches of this year. Toure could've housed this.
Packers play in Las Vegas next year, you know that if Rodgers goes to the Raiders the NFL is gonna put that game Week 1 in primetime. They gotta be SLOBBERING at the possibility lmao
GB's defense was FLYING vs the run. Quay's blitz and the strong-side slant from Kenny leaves Campbell as a free filler. Misses the tackle, but Fournette is slowed up enough for Dean Lowry (!) to split the dbl from Shaq Mason and Wirfs (!!!) and make the tackle for no gain.
I really hope the GB defensive staff gives Quay some chances to rush off the edge soon. IMO he could make a real impact doing that. It's not just his (awesome) physical traits. Multiple times, he's flashed an understanding of how to use his length and hands to beat blockers.
Gonna do a quick thread on some of blitzes GB sent Quay on. Some fun stuff! I love watching him blitz, he has such a great feel for how to attack blockers. Here we goooo
Alright, I think it's time for a Rudy Ford film thread.
Besides his STs chops, Ford brings an interesting profile as a slot DB. The Jags used him in that role a significant amount last year, and he has more size/run D ability than GB slots have had the last few years. (cont)
I think my problem with the GB D is that no one is playing fast. They’re reactive, not attacking. Teams like the Broncos are running a lot of the same stuff GB does, but doing it with a completely different attitude. That’s on GB’s coaching.
From what I understand QB - playcaller meetings during the week are pretty common in the NFL. Whether out of the ordinary or not, skipping out on these meetings randomly is pretty wack. If this is true, no wonder the offense looked disjointed and GB cooled on bringing 12 back
I was told Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur would have game plan meetings to give Rodgers more say.
Sometimes Rodgers would show to the meeting and other times he would just leave Matt sitting there with no word that Aaron wasn’t going to show up.
