After over half a year in development, i am extremely pleased to announce that SAM & MAX IN THE GAPING JAWS OF OBLIVION, my extremely long, extremely convoluted fanstory, is FINALLY out and you can FINALLY read it!!!!
ENJOY!
SAM & MAX FREELANCE POLICE MEGATHREAD:
After the closure of Infinite Machine, and the cancellation of Plunge Through Space, a new Sam & Max game was put into production by the people who made the first one at LucasArts. It would simply be given the subtitle "Freelance Police" 🧵
SAM & MAX PLUNGE THROUGH SPACE MEGATHREAD:
"Sam & Max Plunge Through Space" was one of two cancelled S&M games announced in the early 2000s, but it had a very unique direction compared to hit the road, and the games that preceded its cancellation 🧵
Sam & Max: Hit the Road, which marked the beginning of the duo's extremely long career in video games, released on an unknown date in 1993, meaning at some point this year it turned 30 years old!

the "glazed mcguffin day" song in episode 15 of the cartoon is actually a parody of a frank sinatra song called "get happy", which out of context has lyrics that are somehow funnier and darker than the sam and max version.
this is because the original song is about the rapture
during the skunkape holiday livestream all the way back in december, they showcased off a rough version of the main menu of the game. initially i brushed this menu off as just being really cool, but me and my friend katrina just noticed something weird.
it takes place after 305.
OBSCURE SAM AND MAX FACT (ACTUALLY FOR REAL): in the finale of 303, both versions, in the background of this specific scene, you can see past max. he was literally there the entire time.
Would it enrage you to hear that last night, 24 hours ago, we had The Devil’s Playhouse remaster up at a demo station at GDC? If so, sorry. But we did. And it was great! Thanks to everyone who ran into us. Sorry to the rest of you, we sort of forgot we were doing it. 😬
The cloning chamber in Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse Remastered is green, in reference to the original concept art for this area, which was also green, because Skunkape Games is insane.
unironically i think the single thing i'm most excited to see remastered is the penal zone, because i want to see if they could make the prettiest area in the game any prettier
did you guys know that freelance police is a game that canonically exists in the telltale universe. it's still a lost game but the fully playable beta is on easter island.

a mysterious stone carving that suspiciously resembles Sam and Max and dates back to the twelfth century can be found in Kilpeck Church, England.
the latest S&M comic made by Steve Purcell, The Big Sleep, begins with the duo busting out of a grave near the church
i've seen this image so many times and only now have i just noticed that the duo are going to a rectangular building with "SAM & MAX" written on it. what the fuck is that.
Yes, despite the game's cancellation, we were still able to get a few clips of test footage out of it! Most of these are extremely memorable, especially this one, which is the source of an extremely iconic gif.
oh, excuse me "these characters are trans" but i feel as though there's been a bit of a mixup here. see, this is actually NOT the character "sammun-mak", the pharaoh who takes over max's body, but is instead the character "maximus", max's great grandfather. easy mistake to make!
hey
@skunkape
besties great job on TDP remaster it's perfect but i have a suggestion: if by some chance you ever do end up making another sam and max game and it's a sequel to tdp you should post this image on the first day of development and go radio silent it would be so funny
just throwing this out there since i have a lot of followers, so it's easy to spread the word: please do not support this person in any way. they are a deplorable freak
oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. oh m
in Sam & Max Save The World, a casefile can be found with a date on it that Sam really hates for an unexplained reason. The date is the day Sam & Max: Freelance Police (2004) was cancelled.
in the remaster, another date is added to the box, this being the date telltale closed.
"A thousand thoughts are racing through your mind as you tell me this I'm sure. Your desire for my approval, your concerns that your identity will not be accepted. It matters not, though, because I saw this coming a mile away."

The last thing I would like to highlight in this thread is this video made for the game, in which Sam and Max violently assault and murder the director of the game after he spews some downright insane foreshadowing for The Devil's Playhouse.
(Special thanks to @\Zaptor37)
The last time that The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police ever aired on any TV Network in the world was on September 21st 2016, 7:00 AM on the Serbian Channel Elta 1 HD. (Source: …)
it's funny how i thought the devil's playhouse looked really really good, especially compared to the other original games, and then the remaster came out and made the original look like the worst looking game of all time
start your day right with some cool concept art from the beloved short-lived late-90s children's cartoon, The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police!
i just realized that if you don't have the context that this is the first known image of sam and max ever made it looks like i'm just insulting some random child's drawing. which i guess i technically am

Andrew Chaikin was originally the voice of Max in Culture Shock, before unforeseen health complications forced him to be replaced with William Kasten for the rest of the telltale games.
he was brought back in The Devil's Playhouse as the voice of Narrator. if you know you know
here's a REALLY obscure one. in the game Star Wars Jedi Knight Dark Forces II (very long title), if you go in a specific house you can find a hidden character. That's right. It's our special little guy.
strangely, Sam is nowhere to be found.
ok so not to talk about nostalgia critic lore on the sam and max lore account but this video was part of an extremely short-lived nostalgia critic subseries called "was that real" and this was like literally the second one. it lasted like three episodes after this
According to his time card in Chariots of the Dogs, today’s Sam’s birthday. We doubt Sam would really want to be the center of attention on his birthday, but all the same:
in honor of the 13 year anniversary of The City That Dares Not Sleep, and the conclusion of Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse, here's a really great video uploaded on that fateful 2010 day to commemorate the occasion, courtesy of Andrew Langley, one of the game's programmers!
