if you think removing personal items from distressed pts is an acceptable way to treat a human being, never mind being in hospital then u need to leave the workplace. this is punishment. when someone is distressed you give them support, time & things that help.

little news, prior to the CVD pandemic I was interviewed for a permanent post as head of improving quality in the learning disability & autism team. I was successful. I didn't like to tweet before as there has just been other things to focus on. I started in post today 1/2

Standards. There for a reason. I won't walk on by, I won't let it go. Hello, my name is Salli, I'm a mental health nurse and I'm proud to work in the NHS. π

#humanrights
my takeaway thought today. we are in the business of care, we are not a supermarket using remote surveillance to monitor goods in case of theft. Nor are we police or prison staff. we are taking
#care
of people.
#NHSMentalHealth
needs to demand better resources 4 in person care.
Celebrating amazing work on Burbage. 12 days without ANY restraint or restrictive practice AND an outstanding IPC audit π π π―π« Well done.
@SHSCFT
Had a coaching session this wk, 1st in a long time. I feel so `at peace` with who i am and where my focus is. Ive reflected on what i thought i was aiming towards in the future but you know what, I am so happy to be me, in Sheffield, focusing on patient and carer experience π
12hours in A&E with my son. Waiting a CT scan now. So busy , clearly not enough nurses but hurrah for the student nurse who got his venflon in after 3 failed attempts by others. Gonna be a long night/morning which began at 3pm. Standing room only.
I am looking for a deputy director of nursing & quality.
do you live in or near Sheffield ?

leaving someone with only their thoughts when they have harmed themselves is ignorant and harmful. educate yourselves.
Sat outside the gym for my first session.π±π± 6 week boot camp, I am bricking myself but know I need to improve my physical health. Next week I'm going to start C25K. Goals to improve me, my confidence and to enjoy life. Wish me luck. π
π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£just rang Mr M to ask who had a piece of the energy bar. "Me, it was horrible, don't know how you can eat that stuff" πππ I don't. It's an energy boost for the dogs at agility shows π€ͺππ€ͺ that's made me laugh this morning
Great to share our first mothers day. Unbelievable that my mum was also a MH nurse, trained in the same nursing school, we actually worked in the same locality & never knew each other. So glad i made the after adoption journey last year X
Every ward is taking a self soothe box away as a gift from
@SHSCFT
leadership team who are supporting the implementation of our least restrictive practice strategy. The hard work is however led by our staff and our service users and carers
#ProudtobeSHSC
A 3 year journey

This is our total estate including secure services.

Sad but special day for
@KirstyDallison
. Moving on to a new role from
@SHSCFT
but this is so important. A future Chief Nurse who is gaining broader experience and I know I will see in the near future as a DDoN. Good luck. You've been fabulous and don't forget to
#liftasyouclimb
we will continue to raise the profile during this crisis that people with mental health needs or a learning disability and or autism need support from professionals and carers - who also need equipment & resources for COVID19
Your friendly reminder that not all Nurses wear uniform and work in a hospital. Iβm incredibly proud of my colleagues working in critical care at this time, but there are still us out in the community trying to support ppl with LD and / or MH needs

Bl**dy amazing gentleman i have the honour to work with. Fighting the stigma and inequalities to have held so many leadership and influential positions. π this fella.

Congratulations Gavin Harding MBE, Senior learning disability adviser at NHS England, for making it onto The Power 100. Gavin made history as the first person with a learning disability to be elected local councilor and UK mayor.

somedays I cant tweet what I do cos its sensitive, i dont have a PR machine that can churn out the positive photos & banal statements. what i can say is that i am working v hard with colleagues to deliver change. for some that is too slow, i know but i am committed to change
Out of Office On !!! only 2 emails left in the inbox which i will return to ... see you in a week folks, rainy back garden, walks and relaxation awaits
Supportive conversations today with our global NHS staff. We are united as a multicultural society. We are celebrating our communities and VCSE relationships. Next week our nursing council will break early to attend a celebration with the Pakistan Muslim Centre.
#HopenotHate
What ?!!! just behave and go home and stay safe - we don't need folk witnessing anything at this time. take your cameras and your "reporting" and go film people not social distancing in parks and beaches.
Iβve just been fitted for PPE and weβre about to go into an intensive care unit at Milton Keynes Hospital to witness the incredible efforts of medics treating Covid 19 patients. Please note we wonβt be depleting the hospitalβs PPE stock

this afternoon. Reinforcing the work that has to be done to address the inequity and trauma in the system that people & families with a learning disability and autistic people face.
What makes the biggest difference to autistic people and people with a learning disability.... relationship based care. Delivering care and services based on the relationship with the person. Well said
@RightfulLives
@BaronessHollins
Do you know your clients/patients/person?
Delighted to have been appointed as a Trustee of the
@theRRNetwork
Looking forward to continuing the drive to stopping the use of restrictions and upholding human rights. amongst some awesome colleagues managing and in trustee positions.
This week is learning disability week, celebrate but also remember the huge inequalities often faced by people with a learning disability, stand up and make a difference about the issues. Celebrate achievements and why not consider a career as a learning disability nurse
Happy mothers day to all those whose mother wasn't/isnt around & they didn't give a sh*t
Yet you got on with your life without them. And I'm an amazing mum β€οΈ apparently π₯°π

spec comm national nursing team. So much work to complete particularly restrictive practices and QA across services. Many other pieces which r confidential but v important to have MH nursing input. Great 2 b working with
@T_fenech
A system where staff retain all control over surveillance tech is never going to return credibility to service users in relation to poor care or encourage staff to behave better. It can only ever cement the power imbalances which facilitate abuse in the first place.
30 yrs of evidence of how therapeutic relationships are the key quality requirement in MH care and specifically inpatient MH care. Today's nhse event on digital technologies and culture of care. #
excellent day today, delighted to appoint our permanent Head of Safeguarding this morning. we also appointed our lived experience lead for Quality from a really good field of candidates. such a great way to return from leave
2/2 a few days later I got a response. It became very clear that not wearing my reading glasses was an error, for the enquiry related to being a healthy vegan.
I believe I am now deleted from their mailing list and blocked. π€·ββοΈ
quite a bit of movement in
@SHSCFT
leadership positions over the next couple of months which is fantastic news. shows how much people learn, grow and develop in
@SHSCFT
but also the importance of taking new challenges and getting experience in the broader system. well done !
its rare I comment on covid matters, but this β¦ seriously the weekend has shown that for many life is back to normal & there is no social distancing - transmission will be thru the roof and now those shielding can go "safely" outside ? Show us the science behind these decisions
Now weβve flattened the curve & reduced new infections, from tomorrow, the 2.2 million people who have been shielding can safely go outside
I know how much those shielding have sacrificed. Thank you to everyone who has protected our NHS & saved lives
Too many fabulous nurses to mention that I know and thousands more who I haven't met yet. You are all amazing Happy

we are looking for people with lived experience of eating disorders to work with us. we would like to understand the experience of people using our service. these are paid or volunteer roles - apply via this page
So excited about the new posts coming out next week.. hoping to welcome new folk, fresh talent, diversity in thinking. Let's avoid group think and cliques. Looking for folk different to me and better than me

Wards could be made safer by: strengthening relationships between patients and staff, reducing restraint and restrictive practice and better co-production of services
#StopOxevision
Excuse background noise. Just a little peek at the post incident review work our fabulous
@SHSCFT
teams have been working on!! Printed for work with services users to prevent recurrence of restrictions. Clinical staff, cultural advocates and our race equity officer all offer this
quite a few people reached out - which wasnt my intention but thank you. we all have tough days but ive woken up feeling really physically debilitated and my throat is on fire. Covid test = yup you`ve guessed it. positive. no wonder i wasnt firing on all cylinders.
Utterly shameful. There is only one way to rebuild trust in our regulator and it isnt an apology. I have no choice but to be regulated by this organisation, but I have to have a voice in saying what fit to regulate looks like. Change now
5 weeks into the job full time and I want to thank so many colleagues at
#teamshsc
for making me welcome, for listening as I listen to you, for putting up with my questions and most of all for being willing to learn together and change, innovate or maintain. Thank you

A weeks leave, so needed after working through the festive period. I've booked the gym everyday, some DIY to do, some good long dog walks and catch up with friends. Emptied my inbox today so it's a guilt free down time. Mute me if u dont want dog photos for a week π
β¬οΈ this β¬οΈβ¬οΈ still makes me rage inwardly. Let's be more resilient.... NO ... let's have systems and support for people and stop blaming them for needing it π€π‘π€π‘. This applies to staff and service users and carers.
Staff on Dovedale 1 this morning at 2am. The amazing Joyce who is a phenomenal role model for us. Retired and now working on Bank at 7* yrs. π love these ladies
@SHSCFT
Finally home after a round trip to rescue Midge who got stuck in Edinburgh due to storms & cancelled trains. He managed to get to Darlington so I could collect him. 5 hrs. π€ͺ but he passed his Army entrance tests πβ

There is clear cautionary learning about remote surveillance methods in MH settings. I am proud our clinical teams focus on relationships rather than remote monitoring & surveillance
