Here is a thread of some 20th-c. classical music I deem to be beautiful and fundamentally essential to Western culture. In no particular order & with random commentaries, because it's 2020 and post-modernism is triumphant. 👇

Is it too much to ask for my university to recognise the sheer horror of what happened in France? A *teacher*, someone *teaching* people about free speech, died decapitated. Why haven't we received any message yet? Why the wait? Are we just going to be asked to carry on?

Why is it hard for people to give proper, full names to their babies, & use monikers in private? You don't call a child ‘Archie’ or ‘Lilibet’, you call them Archibald & Elisabeth, then you employ sweet, intimate diminutives in familial circle. It's not that complicated, honestly.

Hi, Charlotte. Raw entitlement and deliberate rudeness don't match the inclusivity you're striving for. Perhaps you could think of more amicable grounds to walk on before attacking someone on the (irrelevant and insulting) basis of their race? (You don't need a PhD. for this btw)

I'm not sure that academia can be fixed by reiterating the principles that led it to fail in the first place. Freedom of speech is only efficient when a system of virtues & a spirit of collegiality is bestowed on scholars. It's a consequence of academic excellence, not the cause.
