Does anybody else find the SPFL Play Off system to be an absolute joke? 2nd, 3rd & 4th play each other 4x each in a season, so there's no need for them to play again in play offs to decide who's better. I think it should just be 2nd place Vs 2nd to bottom of the league above.

Could this be this best solution? The "SPFL Shield" would be at the start of the season. The current SPFL League Cup would become a straight knockout competition. 16 Premiership teams drawn against 16 Champions teams. Then a last 16, QF, SF & Final. Tell me what you think.

I've argued for & against countless reconstruction ideas. Whether it be 10/12/14/16/18/20 teams in the Prem. 2 things are clear to me: 1️⃣ We NEED change. 2️⃣ We NEED a simple format, that doesn't involve any split. ❌ 12/14/16 does not work well. ✅ 18/20 is the way forward.

@RussellJAGordon They're not in my dream scenario. They're teams who have competed in the SPL, like I already said. It shows people that if we'd have gone to 18 teams at any point in the last 20 years, it wouldn't have been so bad, because everyone is fimiliar with seeing these 18 there before.

It's crazy how in Scotland [with a population of only 5.5M] we have so many "professional" teams who are nowhere near the standard of a pro team. I think we need to reduce the Professional Football League from 42 teams, to 32. Create a Conference Football League below.

If we absolutely had to stick with 12 teams in the SPFL Premiership... I'd rather play 32 games instead of 38, to stop some of the boring repetitiveness and unfair Home&Away pre split. Home & Away pre-split = 22 games Home & Away post-split = 10 games

@gazrfc900 I'd make a Super Cup like on Spain, with 4 teams. But at the end of the season. That way you get 3+ Old Firm games, but you don't have to play everyone else 3/4/5/6 times a season

What would you rather: 1️⃣ 30 Games - 16 Teams - Each play twice - 1 Home & 1 Away. 2️⃣ 38 Games - 12 Teams - Each play 3 or 4 times - Random Home & Away. 🏆 For me 1️⃣ is best. Although it has less games, they're less repetitive, which makes them more valuable & important.

@CF1874 I don't think it's the Old Firm that don't want it. The Old Firm will be fine with our without playing each other 4x. It's Doncaster and the rest of the SPFL that want the money from playing them 4x per season.

Plenty of breathing room in the Premiership, for teams to delevop a decent style of play, instead of parking the bus, to avoid relegation. More variety of games, to stop the boring repetition. A better platform for young Scottish players to develop.

@grahamjohnson1 They want a smaller group of clubs to share the money amongst, thinking that it will make them better. Also, they get Rangers & Celtic fans at their stadiums 3 or 4 times per season. It's short sited greed. "4 Old Firms for Sky TV" also gets blamed.

@MoltisantiGerry Yes, add in a minimum quota of Scottish players. Scrap prize money. Split TV & league sponsorship revenue equally in the Prem. Bigger clubs would still be richer from their own personal revenues & UEFA prize money. But, the revenue gap would be lower & player quality higher.

There's got to be a better solution to the regionalised Scottish leagues below the Lowland & Highland leagues. 3 leagues below each of them makes it a nightmare for promotion/relegation. Surely 2 regional league below each would be better? Or 4 at worst?

@smithj1978 I'd like to think that this format would warrant more TV money to solve that. I personally find it very boring playing the same teams 3 or 4 times per season. Especially if it's a top team Vs the teams lower down over and over again.

One of the worst things Scottish football did in recent times is merging the SPL and SFL. Semi-Pro and Part Time teams shouldn't be associated with the top. All they had to do was increase the SPL teams to 18, with 3 Pro/Rel places & leave the SFL to fix regional Pro/Rel below.

@Kev31037212 Of course it would narrow the points gap at the top of the table. It wouldn't get rid of the gap, but it would narrow it to start with. Teams like Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs wouldn't be losing to Celtic 4x and Rangers 4x. Plus with more money, those teams would get better.

@RANGERS_1983 A lot of people find playing the same teams 3 and 4 times per league season and then another 2 times in the cups very boring. It diminishes the importance of the games and outsiders aren't interested one bit. They say "Oh, they're playing them again? It's that the 5th time?"

@62Sauzee The argument for people who want more teams, is that no successful league in the world plays each other 4 times in the league and 2 times in the cups. Playing the same games that many times in a season diminishes the importance and makes it boring to outsiders.

@Kev31037212 Who do you think Aberdeen are more likely to get points from? Morton and Partick or Rangers and Celtic? They'd stay closer to Rangers & Celtic for longer. The quality gap would show regardless, after a period of time. But equal distribution of wealth would help a lot.

Any TV deal we have, should include all Rangers and Celtic games. The demand is there and it gives all clubs more airtime & money. The only issue is playing the same games 4 times per season. You can't sell a diluted product very well. We need more teams. Even just 2 more.

@arabshedboy Perhaps 18 is the best compromise. I understand your attendance point, in theory. I've thought that myself in the past, but can't prove or improve it for certain. What if those people who do not attend for the 38 games can't attend for the 30 games, because of the same reasons

@PaisleySteelman Id be happy with that, but the teams wouldn't vote for it. Plus the SPFL wants some sort of a money spinner. A 2nd Vs 11th play off would be entertaining though.

@andrewmcgurn03 Yes you're right, everyone loves watching their team play the same teams 500 times per season. It's so exciting, knowing that if your team doesn't beat another team, you'll have another 5 or 6 times to beat them that season. Sky love it. That's why they broadcast so many games.

@SPFLWatch I obviously understand it. But the average football fan outside of Scotland isn't going to put any effort into learning how it works. It's just another reason to put potential interest off. No comment on the unfair number of home & away games or playing each other 4 times

@arabshedboy Say for example 1,000 fans don't attend games because of work commitments. Making the games more scarce won't bring them to the games, because they still have work commitments. But then you've lost many more tickets sold from the 8 games you no longer have.

@DerekFM88 There's so many part time teams in Scotland who are making a bit of a joke of it playing in League 1 and 2 of professional football. In England, the conference teams are a higher standard than these league teams. I think we need to be more serious and professional at the top.

Big game tonight, outside of the SPFL Premiership. The SPFL Championship "Title Decider" Arbroath vs Kilmarnock Who will be watching or looking on for the score? I'm sure this game will garner more attention than the league usually gets.

@dm_261 Again, it's hard for the average Joe or newbie to follow. Resetting the points to 0 just devalues and diminishes what the clubs spent most of the season fighting for. If 5th place finishes with 15 more points than 12th place, but they reset to 0, that isn't fair at all.

@clukey83 I completely agree, 1 team up and down is very boring. Which is probably why the majority of the country wants to see @ArbroathFC get promoted, because they'd be a fresh face.

@_deanwilson94 Top 6 teams are likely to be playing in Europe and/or going further in cup competitions, so the number of games played becomes more fair than it is now. Plus when the bottom 8 are playing & the top 6 aren't, they will get more attention and potentially televised.
