In Miami, trash and illegally-dumped waste can wash into canals and end up in Biscayne Bay. Today, Board Member Charlie Martinez attended the installation of a second debris-collecting boom in the Little River (C-7 Canal) to help prevent litter in the canal from reaching the bay.

Located at the tip of the FL peninsula, the 1,000 sq.mi. #FloridaBay lies within @EvergladesNPS and is the southernmost portion of America's #Everglades . With an average depth of 4-5 feet and dotted with small islands, it is one of the largest #seagrass meadows in the world.

The once-meandering #KissimmeeRiver was channelized for flood protection in the 1960's, resulting in widespread ecological impacts. Construction to restore the floodplain and hydrology of the historic river began in 1999 with the backfilling of the C-38 canal.
