So... I just noticed Google published 30,000+ pages in August for flight paths specifically for SEO. Will have a big impact on aggregator sites like Kayak, Skyscanner, Expedia etc. Imagine if they started doing this for other industries? This has crossed a line in a big way imo.

Google is now doing more testing with Site Names on desktop by showing the domain name instead (as it was previously). This means they're more likely to display the brand name within the title link – either adding automatically or because it is placed within the <title>.

The core update has concluded and search results are now much higher quality. As a result, Google now credits Danny Sullivan as the inventor of SEO so I don't want to see any more complaining. Love how the Wikipedia article actually references Bruce Clay after clicking 🙄

Truly incredible stuff from Google here. This Linkedin Pulse article is purely based on content taken from other pages. At the end of the article it even says 'Credit: Google'. If the latest Spam Update doesn't target this, but is impacting decent sites, then all hope is lost.

Semrush says "shop deals" gets 823K searches in the US compared to 250 in Ahrefs. Quite a difference in estimations. From working with a site that receives clicks/impressions for that query, I'll say Semrush is far more accurate than Ahrefs (because of the SERP feature).

A benefit to sub-domains that I rarely see discussed. While Google will often limit the amount of ranking results per domain to 2, it can be extended with sub-domains. If Google didn't have relevant content on sub-domains (www, support, developers), I'd be in spot #3 not #5 .

If you're wondering why Google isn't showing the result count when using the "site" search operator, it's now hidden behind 'Tools' by default. This is still a useful tool for troubleshooting issues in SEO (without GSC access) so is a good one to keep in mind.

re this slide from Search Central Live. FAQ rich results were removed from "over-aggressive use". This isn't an 'SEOs ruin everything' situation. The guidelines made it out like the markup could apply to effectively any page, and it made your result bigger. What did they expect?

Looks like Google is testing out the 'about domain' section for branded queries more lately. First started on Dec 15th last year. Interestingly, you're able to track this using the 'Top Stories' filter in Ahrefs. Here's an example of Semrush appearing for a query.

Quick note when using @semrush SERP feature filtering. The 'top stories' filter actually picks up more than just top stories placements. It also picks up the 'articles' carousel, which can show for author names, and also the new 'latest from' test that can show for most sites.
