Cattle feeder, dad, grandpa, veterinarian married to a vet.”He causes the grass to grow for the cattle...so that he may bring forth food from the earth.”Ps 104:14
My mom passed away Friday, as I feed cattle and see the sun rising in the east, I’m comforted by the fact, that like her, we all have hope of eternal life if we trust in the resurrected Jesus Christ, I’m praying we can all embrace this promise today.

He is Risen!
We’re bruised up,cold and tired but nobody got hurt and the cattle never missed a feeding after 22” of snow since Monday. Please don’t insult us by putting ketchup on your steak.
#EatBeef
It’s not the greatest day to be a cattleman but just as better weather lies ahead, those who put their faith in the redeeming work of Jesus Christ will be granted eternal life.Angels first revealed the gift of Jesus to those watching over their stock. Be safe.
#Merry_Christmas
I know it’s illegal to grade a public road but apparently it is for the county too. When my feed alley is better than the road it’s time to take it in your own hands.
The star over the feedyard reminds me that Christ’s birth was only known to a few shepards. No matter our status or salary, our sinfulness and need of salvation is the same, Rom 3:23, and is only found in Jesus, let’s focus on the real reason for the season.

I was loading fat steers this morning and
@LizForker
said someone wants to see you in the shop, only cattle feeder neighbors would show up for a 6:30am birthday party, thanks neighbors and friends for helping me celebrate a half century today.
Feed truck supervisor got promoted to forward facing observation seat and those eyes don’t miss a thing, now I really have to have to come with my A game or she will let me know about it.

Last 8 for the year. While this community endured a lot of loss this spring with the flood, God is still faithful and provided us with a bountiful

Total knee replacement 5 weeks ago and he told me Sunday: “I’d sure like to combine if they’ll let me.” I don’t think anyone tells an 87 year old “no”😂
I remember after 9/11 looking in the sky and seeing no plane contrails. Take some time today to read Psalm 46 and 91 to remind yourself that in times of isolation, uncertainty, anxiety, fear or whatever emotion your feeling we can trust in a Lord that has always been faithful.
Taking an animals life to remove suffering is the worst part of my job, this afternoon our own “Doc” let us know it was that time, he worked hard, was loyal and gave a lot of kids a ride, I know it’s just a horse but it still stings, thanks for all you did Doc, RIP old friend.
We’ve been custom grazing some North Dakota cows this winter, their grazing behavior is different than Nebraska cows in the extreme cold, they move through the field grazing contently as one big group. Kinda neat to watch how ruminants adapt their behavior to the environment.
Just a little breezy, I’ve seen it all so far this morning thunder, rain, hail, sleet and snow. In spite of worldly circumstances God is faithful in sending a savior he is risen, Happy Easter.
#HeIsRisen
We have millennials blasting boomers that they are the demise of ag and this is worse than the 80s yet we can’t even get out of our tractors and pickups to push a button to open an automatic door to our heated shops, I think we have it better than we think.
Anyone have an good app/program they use to open multiple doors around the farm yard from their phones via Bluetooth? Or wifi? Or? Needs to work on multiple phones.
Generations 6 and 7 getting back from putting calves away after processing on a nice fall morning.

has a lot of definitions but pictures tell a lot.

17 year old son has planted couple hundred acres of beans and learned the don’t back up with the planter in ground rule in the stickiest clay on the farm. Nothing hurt but his pride and a couple hours of time. Farm dads make sure you count to 10 and extend your kids the same 1/2
Everyone likes to say how great sunsets are, I don’t think it gets much better than this sunrise.”This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Ps 118:24
Maybe I’m the only cattle feeder on here that has an operating note to fill the yard, but If I would quit feeding and put my equity in a cd at 4.5% and quit borrowing at 8, that’s a 12.5% swing, makes me wonder what I’m doing some days…
Talked to five different ranchers today in the Dakotas and Montana I’ve bought calves from for years who are making tough decisions how to navigate through this drought, please keep these families in your prayers, this is tough.
#Drought21
Dad was born in 1937, harrowed oats behind horses as a kid, total hip replacement 3 weeks ago, “I think I can combine now” so it’s back to the grain cart it is for the rest of us. I don’t think they make them that tough anymore.
#harvest22
I saw a picture in a magazine and I counted 28 horses and riders at a branding, yet I have a bull in about 1/3 of my “steer” calf pens every year, I don’t really care if you rope and drag or how you do it, just get it done.
Wasn’t paying close attention but saw feedtruck supervisor pulling things out of her sock and eating it, thought I had a major grandpa fail for a bit but turns out it was her Chex cereal she had squirreled away while I was loading the truck so I feel somewhat redeemed.
The birth of Jesus was first announced to caretakers of animals in the dark. The shepherds response was to go in haste to meet him, may our zeal to know our Savior be just as great, not just today but all year.
#MerryChristmas
Gearbox on my bin power sweep shelled out, got ahold of this guy an hour away who rebuilds them and swapped me a rebuilt for mine, left from feedyard with no checkbook, no problem he says just send it. A few good people still exist. Guys like him should run this country.
My idea of dumping that 1/2 bag of last year’s beans in the bottom of the central fill isn’t looking so smart now that I remember I didn’t plant extend last year.
4 generations feeding cattle, great grandpa in the loader and this little one is the 7th generation to be on this land. We can make a big deal about what is sustainability but the fact that each generation leaves the land better for the next speaks for itself.
#Sustainability
Amniotic fluid on my jeans in the cold rain, sometimes I wonder why on earth I chose my job, but something about bringing live calves into the world reminds me that parturition is one of Gods greatest miracles.
#calving22
Feed truck supervisor asked if we were done, told her we bought some more cattle so we have another load to mix , when I asked if we should buy more steers she reached out to knuckle bump me, I’ve created a monster I’m afraid.
Well, I found out I’m going to be living with a grandma next year, seems like just a little bit ago
@LizForker
was riding in the tractor in an infant seat. I think this is pretty cool, can’t wait to meet a new little one!
Railroaders almost went on strike because low pay, no sick days, forced to work through pandemic, few days off to be with your family… good thing cattlemen and women aren’t unionized…
I’ve still got one field I flood irrigate, does anyone under 35 know how to cultivate anymore.I spent a good part of my teenage summers on 706 with a front mount cultivator. Put the umbrella up on days like today, it was hot and dirty but I didn’t know any better.
#oldtimer
My wife’s says her dad always said when you feed in the morning dark it will be light soon, I’m thankful that just like the light in the eastern sky, the risen Son offers that same hope that light will prevail over darkness.

After watching me load the truck before him in sloppy corrals, bullhauler in shorts and tennis shoes chews me out bc the roads are too muddy, told him he better hook on to a reefer then. I’ve got no patience for those kind of cattle haulers.
Our community lost another cattleman yesterday. This verse came up on my phone tonight. Today it doesn’t make sense why God calls some home too early, but knowing our eternal home is in heaven provides some comfort, please pray for a grieving wife, children and family.
Almost every year June gets black calves for her birthday, I think I should get husband of the year for the expensive presents I get her, idk if she always sees it that way. Either way happy birthday June.
A big indicator Ammonia is getting high priced, I emptied this tank last night and this morning it was full and a meth dealer left an invoice in the cab.
Kind of gets a person in the Christmas mood, but if I had my wishes this is as much snow as we need this winter, I always figure this is a good time of the year for a drought.
Filled it up in the fall of 19 and never got to it last year, would be paying out like a slot machine if I didn’t have this stupid stupid addiction to feeding cattle:
Gotta love the thought process of giving a cattle guy this for a loaner vehicle while the duramax is in the shop. List price less than a side by side though.
Kids are grown up and all doing their weekend thing, all we got is a Peterbilt date night going on a wet feed run. Is it supposed to be a vacation day? Good thing her dad fed cattle also.
#farmwife
extraordinarie
Our neighbor is out planting today, thats the first planter setup I remember as a kid, sometimes I wonder if our ROI was better then, life seemed simpler also, but maybe it’s just because I was a kid.
#plant2020
Cool nights, perfect cattle feeding weather, Cornhusker football heading the right direction. If you had Keith Gilster for a ani sci professor you can hear him say “it’s a great day in the state of Nebraska.”
#Huskers
12 years of school board came to an end tonight, it was an honor to play a minuscule part in supporting the kids. I appreciate all that our public schools do for the students. Thanks to the entire staff and district at Lakeview for your investment in education.
#lakeviewvikes
My wife brought lunch to the field and brought cookies out of the oven soft enough they had to be on a paper plate, that’s wife of the year material, I love that lady.
#topnotch
It’s that time of the year again for a bunch of cry babies to show up at the feedyard. Nice harvest weather but a little rain to settle the dust would be nice.
#fallrun
I can be critical of the road graders at times, but I’ve got to give a shout-out to the Platte Co hwy department, they got these roads opened and widened amazingly fast, I think we had 24” of snow with 50 mph winds until Sunday morning.
We will probably finish tomorrow, I’ve done this a few years and this is the first time I remember an eastern Nebraska harvest with not a single raindrop from start to finish, it’s dry out there.
#harvest2024
Got a couple trucks from out west haul quite a few hwy 20 cattle for me, write them a check when they unload, they need paid sometime anyway, sure is nice to have them answer my phone when I call.
Everyone else around here is gone today so we have a grandpa and a grandma feeding, riding pens and loading 3 dollar fat cattle. I guess we’re not ready for the nursing home yet.
Bought some Red Angus steers on the video today, now I have to explain to my wife who grew up raising registered Black Angus cows why the steers she’s going to unload are red.
Does anybody else listen to the noaa weather channel on your tractor radio and by the time it gets to tomorrow’s weather your spacing off and not listening? I swear I have adult ADD.
Talked to a rancher today about the cattle market, he summed it up pretty accurately when he said it feels like we’re all one disaster away from bankruptcy.
Nothing is deserved in this business but considering 14 days ago we were 90 degrees cooler than it’s forecasted to get this afternoon I feel like we paid our rent for today.
#enjoytheday
Feed truck supervisor is out growing her car seat, pretty soon she’s going to be really telling me all about how to do this correctly. Its hard to have a bad morning when you get to feed with her riding along.
The 930 never thought cattle feeding would be so tough it would be unloading the Busch lattes by the case. Just doing
#cattlemensball
things.
@CattlemensBall
Packer called and said some cattle didn’t show up last night and asked if I could bring some I sold last week, didn’t take me long to scramble trucks and start loading, gonna be the cooler place for these steers to be this afternoon.
Every year some state senator introduces a bill to have year round daylight savings, its 7:25 and we have 55 days until the shortest day of the year, this would be well after 8 by Christmas, hard pass here.
