Glastonbury? Schmastonbury! Currently my only remaining UK gig of the year will be at
@CastlesInSpace
Levitation on Saturday 5th October.
Appearing with James Holden, The Soundcarriers, System 7 and veritable who's who of Castles In Space artistes.
If I wasn’t clear enough before, fuck fascists.
And if you have “legitimate concerns” about migration, trans people, how poor people use their money or anything called “woke”, stop buying my records and get the fuck out of my feed.
The Nation's Most Central Location, my fourth album will be released on 19th May 2023. Available on vinyl, digital and CD from
@CastlesInSpace
. It will be released with an exclusive edition for
@RoughTrade
with an exclusive vinyl variant and postcard.
I made
@ElectronicMagUK
magazine no.1 Album of the Year. What can I say but thank you! Thank you to
@CastlesInSpace
for doing all the hard work, and thank you to everyone who bought a record or came to a gig this year.
As a fan of Brutalism, I do grow weary of posts and coffee table books praising obvious subjects like Trellick Tower and Preston Bus Station.
Give me the Brutalism that’s too ugly for postcards! Give me the old Preston Market, Bradford town centre, and, of course, Runcorn.
Maybe capitalism decided Bandcamp had to be destroyed because we can't be allowed a successful, profitable internet model that actually empowers individual creators and artists. Because fuck those guys, my algorithm can do it cheaper.
The new EP Building A New Town takes Warrington-Runcorn back to the early 1970s for four tracks of folk-tinged ambient electronica.
It'll be released on 25th August on Autumn Gold splatter via the ever amazing
@CastlesInSpace
I think this chart is the one that's impressed me most. 13th in the Record Store charts is pretty incredible considering it includes sales from HMV and our records don't even go there. That's 13th entirely due to independent stores. 🙏🙏🙏
Does anyone have any more photos, maps or video of the Southgate Estate in
#Runcorn
from the late 70s? I only have a handful of images and they only hint at what a unique development it was.
Absolutely bricking it about performing with Wolfgang Flur tonight. What do you even say to a man who completely revolutionised music to such an extent that it's still held up as the paradigm of perfection today?
So 2023, that’s a wrap! 20 gigs in 38 weeks has been exhausting but it’s been fun. Over 6,500 miles driven.
Thank you to everyone who bought a record, came to a gig, told their friends about me, played me on radio show, wrote a review, and made this all possible.
Is that the second biggest selling electronic record today on Bandcamp? Just after Bicep?
I’m overwhelmed. I think I’ve only ever sold 35 copies of something before.
NEW ALBUM COMING SOON!

Thank you to everyone who bought a record or came to see me in the last 3 months or just said hello. Its been a bit overwhelming, I didn’t expect 2,000 records to sell out (in some places) in a day.
RIP Sinead O’Connor. An incredibly brave woman, and the best voice of her generation. I saw her perform with Massive Attack and she’s the best singer I’ve ever seen.
In the next 12 months, I'll be putting out:
- one new album
- two EPs
- reissues of Interim Report, March 1979 and The Nation's Most Central Location
- a non-WR album on the
@CastlesInSpace
subscription library
- doing more gigs than I've ever done before
So in the past weekend we have a transphobic murder, fascist gangs attack a hotel housing refugees and the Tory party deputy chairman hanging out with neo-Nazis, but the real fascists are the people who ask that you recognise their pronouns?
Fuck. This.
335,000 people died from Tory austerity. Killed by a deliberate choice of his party.
Going without Sky TV so your parents could put you through Winchester College is not sacrifice or suffering.
Fuck you.
Many thanks for 2023 everyone. Lots to look forward to in 2024, including lots more live dates, an album, EP and a single featuring a remix from one Mr Vincent Clarke.
The new album, The Nation's Most Central Location will be released on 19 May 2023 on vinyl, CD and digital. Available for pre-order now from independent record stores.

TYPEFACE AND GRAPHIC DESIGN PEOPLE: I’m wondering if there are any fonts out there that suggest “local authority with a grand vision in the mid-late 70s” other than Helvetica?
I find it pretty funny that I make music about the modernity of a town, and when I actually play that town, I’m playing in the 1,000 year old ruins of a Norman castle.
The third Warrington-Runcorn album will be on
@CastlesInSpace
issue number CiS101. It is called “Districts, Roads, Open Space” and will certainly contain lots of open space.
Enjoying the fact that I seem to have inspired lots of people to re-listen to Jean Michel Jarre.
A most deserving and criminally underrated musician. Lacking the conceptual framework of Kraftwerk, but every bit their musical and technical equals.
I tell you how to stop the boats, Sue Ellen. You open legal routes for refugees and asylum seekers to come to the UK, removing the need for boats and human traffickers. The downside is you wouldn’t be able to politicise a tiny issue and convert it into votes from racists.
Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan
Friday 7th October
Release of Districts, Roads, Open
Space the third album on green
and camouflage vinyl. Re-issue of
People & Industry on transparent
blue vinyl. All three albums
available on compact disc.
I’m going to be announcing Album 4 next week… its arrived with
@CastlesInSpace
from the pressing plant. And this week I submitted Album 5 for consideration! Don’t expect that till 2024 though.
I've just heard from the incredible
@CastlesInSpace
that album 3 - Districts, Roads, Open Space - and the repress of People & Industry have arrived Chez Spacey Castles. These are for release on Friday 7th October.
The Nation's Most Central Location is Electronic Sound Magazine's Album Of The Year! It also features in Norman Records and Rough Trade's annual round ups. If you've missed out so far, its available on vinyl, CD, digital and streaming.
Its not everyday you’re on the front cover of a magazine, but the latest issue of
@ThePlanner_RTPI
features an interview with me. I think its a subscription only offer though, I’m afraid.
Just for context my first album sold 300 copies with no press or publicity, just using social media in its first 9 minutes on sale.
Its now on its fourth pressing, out tomorrow, which has already sold more than 390 copies in pre-sales.
Fuck you, Glinner.
I hope you all have a very peaceful and happy Christmas. Thank you all for your support this past year, it has been incredible. I have plenty more music and live gigs lined up for you next year. See you out there, folks.
Going to have some tshirts at future gigs, starting with
@TheRoseHillArts
in Brighton this Saturday. Available at gigs only in orange or black, and in a range of sizes.
Release date for new 12"/7" single, A Shared Sense Of Purpose has been pushed to Friday 10th May.
The special 7" pressing has taken the pressing plant slightly longer than they thought, and we want to have the stock before we go live.
Coincidentally, we also put in the order today for the vinyl of the follow up album, due in April 2024. There will be a single to precede it too, due March ish.
I made
@ElectronicMagUK
magazine no.1 Album of the Year. What can I say but thank you! Thank you to
@CastlesInSpace
for doing all the hard work, and thank you to everyone who bought a record or came to a gig this year.

Ok, I’ve got a spare 7” from Bedford. I’m going to stick it on Ebay and and donate all the money from it to
@Mermaids_Gender
, a charity helping transitioning children. This is after trans teenager Brianna Ghey was murdered in Warrington earlier this month. Links later. 🏳️⚧️

@CastlesInSpace
on Bandcamp and independent record stores.
To those seeking to ban and outlaw striking, this is your reminder that strikes were developed as a civilised compromise.
Up till then the usual approach was to kill the mill owner, burn down the mill and lead a workers army to march on Parliament.
