“We’ve had 100 years of the same and it is time for some socialist change. Limerick led the way back in 1919 and it’s time for us to do it again in 2024.”
Seeing a lot of goths about again, which is bad news.
Goths are the harbinger of recession whether its the 2008 recession, the 1980s recession or 5th century Rome and the collapse of the empire.
They may not be the cause but they are the warning we should heed
I’m a politician, but I’m also a renter. Let me be your voice when it comes to these issues.

Remember, shorter showers and drinking less water is the solution to this, don't pay any attention to the big hulking data centre in the corner with steam rising from its cooling system
€528 million would cover the cost of lost fares by making public transport free
A €14K yearly tax break for landlords could cost nearly €800 million
Of course the government is only considering one of these
It's amazing how Debenhams was able to mobilise so many Gardaí to stop workers getting what they're owed but are unable to protect the most vulnerable from violence directed by racists and fascists
For a Green Party TD to harp on about decarbonisation while cheerleading the development of new data centres which will increase total energy needs shows a lack of desire to tackle climate change
A second Damien English mortgage was sold to a vulture fund while he was responsible for implementing mortgage arrears policies.
He failed to declare an interest when he spoke about a state bank’s sale of non-performing mortgages – one was his own.
Hearing councilors saying they support data centre development in their area because it will bring additional tech jobs is delusional.
I'm sure some lobbyist convinced them it was true and now they're going to go around spreading propaganda on the lobbyists behalf.
There are over 12,000 people living in homelessness, and this doesn’t reflect the volume of people who are forced to couch surf in the homes of friends and family.
You think you wouldn't lift the eviction ban... and yet...

Using the Garda public order unit to pull workers off picket lines at Debenhams across the country at a cost of tens of thousands to the state and never delivering the training fund they were promised

He's Donohoe's FG constituency treasurer and manages a firm that's bought two distressed properties from a vulture fund directed by an-ex FG cllr
Great turnout in Limerick against fascists trying to spread their hateful message.
At the end they were clearly despondent and said with disgust "this is Ireland's future"
Hopefully they're right and we build an inclusive society that wants to ensure everybody's needs are met!
Coillte is not fit for purpose
It promotes a for profit, extractive forestry model that destroys the soil & biodiversity
Coillte lands are also being prospected for mining
Well done to
@sli_eile_
for bringing groups together to plan and carry out actions for a habitable future
‘Trees for climate, not for profit’. 🌲🌳🌲
Today
@SaveLeitrim
& climate activists from across Ireland pulled 100s of Sitka spruce saplings from Coillte peatland. Straw Boys were among 150 on the direct action targeting industrial conifer plantations & demanding policy change.
We got to bring our little baby Zoë home today!
Huge thanks to all the midwives, doctors, cleaners, chefs and all the rest of the workers in Limerick Maternity hospital who provided so much help and care to us over the last few days!
Private government notes show the new auto-enrolment pension scheme is especially important because a whole generation of people won’t ever own a home, and will need their pension to pay their rent.
Far Left — develop public housing for all, ensure people have access to healthcare, ensure people don't go hungry
Far Right — no eviction bans, no refuge for people fleeing violence, no access to gender affirming care and abortion
These things are the same 🧠

Everyone get out in support of Palestine
Israel is escalating its war crimes and government ministers are outright calling for a genocide in Gaza
Israel is a settler colony that has accelerated its apartheid regime and land seizure over the last decade

Yes the misogynistic language needs to be removed from the constitution but not in a way that enshrines a Thatcherite view of care that also ignores the people who receive care, their wants and desires
Thanks so much to everyone who voted for me
We got a good response to the ideas we put forward and hopefully we can find ways to keep them on the agenda
We also heard about tons of issues that people across the city want to see tackled that we will look at later on this week
What a difference a year makes!
When Brian Leddin's team asked
@ULEnviroSoc
if he could speak to students he was challenged on
@EamonRyan
signing off on US military planes landing in Shannon and opposing
@pb4p
's neutrality bill - he reaffirmed his party's support of neutrality
Irish exports of tech services hit $200 billion in 2021, more than the US and India combined.
This is what data centres generate, along with billions of euro in tax revenues and tens of thousands of jobs.
The use of Shannon Airport to transfer weapons and soldiers to imperialist wars across the world is a stain on our neutrality!
Bombings, torture, murder all carried out with the complicity of the Irish government.
Beware your local “independent”
Even if they leave Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael they seem to have a bad habit of always voting with them if they get elected
Irish soldiers in the firing line as Israel escalates its military assault on Palestinians as it tries to use nationalism to quell uprisings against its own regime
But our government will give warm welcome to Biden and ignore his government's role upholding the Israeli regime
Irish troops were forced to shelter in bomb proof bunkers yesterday and over night as Israeli jets attacked targets inside Lebanon in response to militants firing rockets into Israel.
No inspections in Shannon airport and no guarantees on their final destination before they're given permission to fly through Irish airspace
Eamon Ryan and Mícheál Martin sign off on these flights, they make us complicit!
The housing crisis has been manufactured by Fine Gael to the benefit of developers and landlords to tackle it Limerick should become a trial county for universal public housing
This means 100% publicly owned homes on public land and linking rents to people's incomes
#LE24
“Voting to take away your medical card in Dublin while filling out your form to reapply back in Limerick”
Heard that on the doors as the perfect description of Limerick's most famous mustachioed man
No principles, no integrity and a massive barrier to collective organising
The Green Party say we need to do our bit but last year households reduced electricity production by 9%
Data Centres account for more than 80% of the increase in electricity use since 2015 but Green Party TDs support them as solutions to climate change
Households reduced their consumption of electricity last year by 9%, according to new figures published by the Central Statistics Office. However, data centres increased their power consumption by 31% and now account for 18% of electricity used.
He is:
Illegally evicting people en masse
Leaving apartments empty for months so he can move workers in his businesses in giving him control over them
Doesn't pay management fees in buildings he owns apartments in leaving them become run down for tenants and other owners
Nearly 3% of Ireland's gas generation capacity will be installed on the edge of the town for a single facility that will only provide 250 jobs according to their own planning submission
It will account for a 1% increase in gas consumption, so much for enforceable carbon budgets!
Niall Collins says he'll vote to continue public funding for cruel blood sports that promote gambling on the same week he's "delighted" to support a new gambling addiction treatment centre while refusing to answer questions on council land being sold to his wife
.
@NiallCollinsTD
made a statement last night from Limerick’s greyhound track
He says he’s happy to vote for funding for the greyhound and coursing industry
‘It’s part of our culture, part of our heritage,’ he says
Still no comment on any of the allegations against him
"If I stand against the Baliffs and the Baliffs come to kick me out of my house, will ye stand with me‽"
This is where we're at now
Evicting people into homelessness to allow landlords to make more profit is unjust
We need to stand in solidarity with people facing eviction
We're still a good few months away from her even understanding what a pronoun is and explaining what a wanker is wouldn't be age appropriate sexual education but she's aware of the beard
There's no other group that would be treated with kid gloves like this, get a meeting with a minister and have cllrs, senators & TDs batting for them even after the statement from the group in Inch said their issue was with the origins of the international protection applicants
The delivery of tens of thousands of homes is under major threat amid a “high risk of major water shortages” in the greater Dublin area over the next six years, the Housing Commission will warn the government
Gardaí facilitating the eviction even though tenant has confirmation from RTB and Treshold that this is an illegal eviction and landlords men were violent towards tenant.
Over a thousand out on the streets of Limerick raising their voices for Palestine today
There needs to be an end to the bombing NOW to
#StopGazaGenocide
and start dismantling the Israeli apartheid regime to stop the daily violence, expulsion and murder Palestinians face
Consumers often use visual cues to not be a scab so we've removed the visual cue to break solidarity between workers and better serve our shareholders interest in obscene profits
@_NevadaMan
Our data show that consumers routinely focus on the visual of the Pop-Tarts brand name, so we simplified the package design by removing "Kellogg's".
The main difference between these 2 schemes is that one offers free access for occasional use and the other operates as a market
@greenparty_ie
consistently put barriers on any climate proposal they propose to control their use because they don't trust ordinary citizens
Eamon Ryan has dismissed calls for a free ‘car library’ system, which could allow people to borrow a car for free for occasional journeys without needing to own one full time. He told Paul Murphy the idea would “blow Ireland’s carbon budget” by effectively providing free cars.
The nice part about the low delivery of public housing (if you're a member of a government party) is that a member can personally hand over the keys to each one that gets delivered 🥰
The government is trying to erode our neutrality against the wishes of the majority
Their consent manufacturing "Security Forum" is not a suitable replacement for a citizens assembly or referendum but is merely a way for them to set the narrative
Have your say in Limerick 👇
Maybe it's just me, but if I was running the paper of record I would probably be a little more critical of "research commissioned by the Irish Paper Packaging Circularity Alliance (IPPCA)" about job losses related to a tax that will disincentivise the use of a paper based product
The government has refused to implement sanctions, expel the Israeli ambassador and to push for Israel to face justice for its war crimes.
Now groups are taking action against the supply chain for Israel's barbaric slaughter
This target: Materion, Limerick
Huge thanks to
@paulmurphy_TD
for coming down to oversee the selection convention and to the branch for backing me
With the cost of living and housing crises so acute here in Limerick we're seeing a growing demand for radical people powered politics that put needs before profit
Google funded a lawsuit (now dropped) to prevent journalists from finding out that the company uses 29% of an Oregon city's water to cool its data centers
Overholding (staying in your home) after the date on a notice to quit isn't illegal
A landlord trying to physically remove you, change the locks or intimidate you – that's illegal
If you face eviction contact with local PBP reps & more importantly everybody join
@CatuIreland
And that's the last canvas done!
Thanks to everyone for telling us their stories over the last few weeks.
There's so much in Limerick that needs to be fixed but there are so many passionate people that want to fight to make it better
.
@bridsmithTD
is the strongest voice in the Dáil on climate issues and a huge fighter for women's rights, on a socialist basis not just to give a few women a seat at the exploiters table!
Hopefully people give
@HazelPBP
their support to keep up the fight for socialist change!
Celebrating people freezing in their homes isn't a "just transition" for fossil fuel reduction
It's like the Green Party celebrating the drop in transport emissions last time they were in government because people either emigrated or had no work
Agriculture and industry still make up the bulk of the emissions and have barely reduced their emissions at all while families suffering through freezing winters reduced their use by 12.7%
Realistically we need mass civil disobedience with people facing eviction choosing to overhold and force the government to change the laws.
Stand up for your neighbours, defend your community and get involved with CATU –
@CatuIreland
#RTEUpfront
So the state IS capable of delivering homes at 60% below market rates but it's still leasing homes off vultures 3× that and swallowing the cost
Maybe they never should have used NAMA for the largest transfer of wealth from citizens to capitalists while making homes unaffordable
“[Landlords] merely act as middlemen between existing homes and the people who want to live in them, a process that serves to inflate property prices, shut first-time buyers out of the market and exploit vulnerable tenants at the same time.”
So that's why they're leaving billions unspent.
The way this government bends over backwards to serve polluting industries putting billions aside during a housing crisis and with a collapsing healthcare system to pay fines for polluters is fiscal common sense
Irish taxpayers will have to fund up to €8 billion in penalties for missing 2030 emissions targets, not the corporations or sectors doing the polluting. Confirmed on
@RTECountryWide
by Climate Council chairperson.
So this explains why The Taoiseach wouldn't answer
@paulmurphy_TD
's question on whether Irish troops would only be carrying out "de-mining" training in Ukraine last November
The Irish people want to protect our neutrality but our government is eroding it at every turn
The Government said training of Ukranian troops would be "non-lethal" in nature and repeatedly emphsised its humanitarian nature.
However, The Irish Times has learned the Defence Forces will also be providing weapons training, per a Cabinet decision
Part of my speech from yesterday's March in Limerick in support of Palestine as Israel continues its bombing of Gaza and repression of the West Bank with support from British, EU and US leaders against the interests of their own people
#CeasefireNOW
#StopGazaGenocide
There are so many low energy, high labour tasks needed to avert a climate catastrophe rewilding, regenerative agriculture etc. and care jobs for an aging population that are needed to avoid social collapse but there's no value put on them because they don't show up in our exports
We would have had a widespread public housing system already if they state had just built homes directly instead of paying for each house 3 times over through remediation schemes because lobbying by private interests removed any regulation so they could pocket more profit
There's such a stark contrast between the abuse I get online and the welcome on doors
The design and incentives of social media to keep people angry so they stay on the platforms is so harmful and alienates people from those around them
Thousands more people, including hundreds of children have been made homeless since the eviction ban was lifted last April
The government has just made it clear that they're happy for thousands more to suffer the same way
It's a government of landlords, for landlords!
🤔
Using your position as an elected councillor to facilitate the transfer of public assets to your spouse isn't really a personal matter though
It raises questions about the Niall Collins judgment, trustworthiness and if he could use his position as a minister for similar gain
Minister for State Niall Collins TD said he should not be held accountable for "personal matters" before the Dáil.
"The Dáil is a legislative forum, it’s a parliament. It's about holding Government to account.”
If I was a professor of "history of war" I would simply not sign a letter that states “this war which was started when Hamas carried out its massacre of civilians on October 7th” when an occupying force refers to its regular mass slaughter of occupied people as "mowing the grass"
I joined the
@shannonwatch
vigil today against the use of Shannon Airport in support of US militarism.
War is an industry that uses up our precious resources to kill and oppress people across the world, upholding domination by the powerful.
We have so many crises, in housing, healthcare, transport and rising living costs that even though the new role of Mayor isn't set to gain any powers to make a real dent in these issues a mandate will exist to organise people to demand real changes in these areas.
@anconnachtach
this lad who is on the "UK National Cyber Advisory Board" was asked about the UK perspective on
#cyber
war and he said given some of the politics that went on this morning I don't want to do that lol, cowed into silence by republican action!
We've had people raising Niall Collins property dealings on the doors. He's not even a TD in those parts of Limerick and people are pissed off at him.
The reporting from The Ditch suggests he committed a criminal act, he needs to step down
📣Good news confirmed to me this evening by the Department of Education. St. Fergus National School in Glin have been approved for a Special Education Classroom and a Mainstream Classroom🚧🛠️
The owner of a residential block in south Dublin called Woodbine House left the complex of 43 houses and apartments empty for two years in order to remove rent caps on the homes and sell them for a higher price to an investor
Does he think people will just ride around on the bus all day?
If people start making more trips they weren't making before it'll be because they previously couldn't justify the expense. If anything it should allow for more enjoyment and social cohesion if places are accessible
Brian Leddin voted against a bill by
@pb4p
to hold a referendum which would have clarified and enshrined Ireland's neutrality in the constitution
Instead this government is trying destroy our neutrality and to drag us into imperialist wars!
Lots of rural Ireland is deprived and slowly dying as there's no reason for young people to stay but dumping extractive, low labour, industries that wreck the local environment isn't going to help that.
Next month
@RBoydBarrett
will speak in Limerick first time in a decade
The cost of living crisis is ruining people's lives as banks and corporations rake in record profits
We need to push for socialist change so we can produce for social rather than market needs!
@RuairiFahyPBP
PbP used to be the Austerity Alliance and is really the Socialist Workers Party a Trotsykist organisation affiliated to the International Socialist Tendency to whom it must send a written report each year.

2024 is our change for change
It's our chance to ditch the duopoly that has controlled the state for 100 years
It's our chance to fight for a living planet for our children
It's our chance to look beyond the political limits of the "possible" and fight for a socialist future
But we did propose free public transport, a return to municipal waste collection and targeting waste at its source, dealing with raw sewage being dumped in our waterways and the ending of the market system for delivering energy projects which is leading to higher carbon & costs
Commentators have criticised proposed legislation to ban most private jets from Irish airspace.
“If People Before Profit really care about the environment, do something useful."
Violent thugs will be descending on Limerick today after some local elected councillors who should have known better widened the crack to let them in
We have seen these protests escalate into arson at least 20 times already—
Stay Safe, Stay Away
John has suffered intimidation for standing up for his rights as a tenant
To do that against any tenant is wrong, but for a director of a nursing home with a brain injury unit to keep intimidating someone with a brain injury after a carer asked them to stop is just disgusting
A man in his 60s, who has sustained a stroke and a brain injury, has been served with an eviction notice from his social-housing home following an RTB ruling in his favour in a dispute over the price he was being charged for gas
At the People Before Profit AGM this weekend with hundreds of delegates from across the island.
The legal structures might be different on either side of the border but the fights and struggles people face are the same, so our politics remain the same across the island
