Withdrawal Agreement + Political Declaration (non-binding) = 91 pages. Commons will sit on Saturday for less than five hours.
When I was in local govt, decisions on grass cutting would have more detail attached and more scrutiny than this. Ludicrous.
Clearly it suits some narratives to say ‘ Labour is only winning in London’
Labour has so far gained these councils outside London:
Blaenau Gwent
Crawley
Cumberland
Kirklees
Rossendale
Southampton
West Dunbartonshire

They’re made using only British-grown potatoes. Here’s UKIP’s Leader encouraging people to stop buying them:
Not a single one of them voted on by MEPs, all stitched up behind closed doors. We MEPs are token fig leaf democracy. After 3 days in Strasbourg, I know more than ever we made correct decision 2 leave. Pressure from Brexit Party will ensure we leave sooner rather than later.
Perhaps a Minister could pop over to Paris to learn more about this - assuming they can find a train to London that’s running, don’t mind queuing at passport control for a few hours and are ok with roaming charges for a couple of days.

Party chair overseeing worst result since 1930s. Majority in own seat tumbles to 814 from 10k+, vote share down -15%.
Might run for leader.
This period of reflection is proving to be quite something.
This observation from Neil Kinnock on what happened in the 1980s, is very important to note in understanding how and why Thursday’s electoral disaster happened.
@IanDunt
From experience having led delivery of 20mph zones in Leicester, they happen because local communities want them, often demanded through local petitions and campaigning. Cllrs often pledge them in their election campaigns.
Two years ago today I made this speech in the European Parliament. On the potential Brexit problems for touring artists, musicians, comedians and their tour crew, sadly, I wasn’t wrong:
@RhonddaBryant
Might be helpful if we had a Parliament that could recall itself. That needs to be on the list of constitutional and institutional renewal
⚠️There is no mandate for No Deal.
⚠️We are learning more about all of this from leaks instead of Ministers reporting to Parliament.
⚠️It’s ludicrous that Parliament is not sitting whilst we get closer and closer by the day to No Deal chaos.

If Government serious on this, why did they take these commitments out of the legally-binding Withdrawal Agreement and relegate to the non-binding Political Declaration.
They’re not serious about workers rights, standards & protections.
Thank you,
@Anna_Soubry
Like Anna, lots of people are telling me they will vote

Today you can vote for the change our country needs.
In Leics & Rutland, as PCC I will deliver the serious leadership and change we need.

And the reality remains exactly the same as before: the detail and therefore the reality of the future relationship will be negotiated *AFTER* we leave. If anything the revised Pol Declaration is even vaguer than May's version.
Good grief - unbelievably ridiculous and shockingly bad move, even for this Government.
As a MEP, in every single discussion I had, without exception, aviation industry and unions totally united on vital need to remain part of EASA.
Against the advice of industry and the Civil Aviation Authority the UK will be leaving the EU Aviation Safety Authority, another victim of the UK's government hard red line against any agency which has ECJ oversight
Theresa May said she would aim for ‘associate membership’ of European Medicines Agency: that’s now downgraded in

I can tell you who is worried about a No Deal Brexit.
Foodbanks.
No Deal Brexit ➡️ higher food prices ➡️ more food poverty ➡️ more demand at foodbanks ➡️ but higher food prices ➡️ fewer donations to foodbanks.
The most vicious of vicious circles.
Few quick thoughts on the Tory press office ‘fact check’ thing:
It is utterly deplorable and not acceptable - a planned, deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

The German President’s

#EuropeDay
makes it feel even more poignant.
Really pleased to confirm I will be
@UKLabour
candidate for next May’s Police & Crime Commissioner election here in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.
Our campaign to win this election starts now.

If you are in the Labour Party and your response this morning is to criticise the Chief Rabbi or to question his motives, then it's clear you have no interest in understanding the unprecdented severity of this, about what it means and why this is so painfully shameful.
The sad, sorry shrinking of “Global Britain” on the world stage continues.
Terrible, unnecessary decision that will have awful consequences for some of the world’s poorest people.
Just over two years ago I spoke in the European Parliament to call for more EU research funding for ME treatment and diagnosis.
Speaking at the same committee meeting was an inspirational young women, Evelien van der Brink
Labour MPs got re-elected in 2017 through local campaigns completely disassociated from national Corbyn-Labour brand, and by telling reluctant Lab voters he wouldn’t be leader for much longer.
That just wasn’t possible two years later.
When the UK negotiated trade deals as a member of the EU - the world's largest single market - I, along with the 72 other elected UK MEPs, could vote to approve or reject the deals.
✈️In the many meetings I had with companies that make aircraft and with
@unitetheunion
@UniteEastMids
who represent the workforce making aircraft engines it was always made clear staying in EASA was in our national interest.
Good grief - unbelievably ridiculous and shockingly bad move, even for this Government.
As a MEP, in every single discussion I had, without exception, aviation industry and unions totally united on vital need to remain part of EASA.
Still deciding how to vote on Thursday?
Here’s my manifesto for Safer Streets & Stronger Communities:
There’s a clear choice:
More Conservative chaos
Or serious leadership, real change and safer streets with Rory Palmer, Labour & Co-operative
We’ve now been in lockdown for 19 weeks in Leicester. There’s a growing mental and emotional toll to all of this and Govt should recognise that.
We deserve clarity from Govt on WHEN decisions will be taken as well as WHAT those decisions are.
#LeicesterLockdown
I will vote against the Withdrawal Agreement today. I believe Brexit will do real damage to our country and its communities: the Agreement will pass today and we will leave on Friday, but not with my endorsement.
“Whack-a-mole” is not a strategy or a plan for protecting public health.
It’s a very shoddy soundbite that does nothing for public confidence and fails to reflect the seriousness of the pandemic. We deserve better than this.
#PMQs
I’d like to congratulate
@Rupert_Matthews
on re-election as PCC.
Thank you to everyone who voted for me in this election. Thank you to my campaign team and supporters, I’m proud of the ideas we put forward and the campaign we ran.
I’m sorry we didn’t make it this time.
This morning’s
@POLITICOEurope
reports that there won’t be a deal on UK’s continued participation in Erasmus. Campaigned on this from my first day as an MEP: incredibly disappointing and real loss of opportunity for future generations of young people.
🇪🇺🇬🇧Thank you to all those asking where they can get one of the UK/EU ‘Always United’ friendship scarves I’ve had made.
They were made as a gift for my friends/colleagues but I’m now making a small number available in a silent auction, with proceeds to

Can’t think of anything that remotely compares to how serious and worrying this is.
This isn’t some Westminster bubble political management test for the PM: it’s about whether people will trust and follow Govt public health rules during a devastating pandemic.
Proud to be campaigning for and supporting Labour’s New Deal for Working People.
✅ Ban zero hour contracts
✅ End fire and rehire
✅ Strengthen sick pay
✅ Better rights at work
✅ Ensure a genuine living wage
This is the difference Labour will make.
Lots of people who were thinking about voting for other parties or who usually support other parties have told me they are voting for me today.
If you are lending me your vote today to end Conservative chaos, thank you, I will work tirelessly to repay that trust.
Really pleased my local

Missed this letter yesterday.
Real dignity, grace and friendship from our EU27 friends.
‘On Saturday, for the first time in almost 50 years, we observe Europe Day without the United Kingdom as a member state of the European Union.’
We are absolutely overjoyed, we have a gorgeous little sister for Jess; baby Eleanor Isla Walker Palmer born just after 3am this morning. Mum and baby both doing well, all of us delighted.
👏I’ve just read this speech by

@UKLabour
should be.
Pro-worker and pro-business- a successful, growing economy needs a Government that is both.
And to take nothing whatsoever away from the brilliant results in London (well done
@LondonLabour
friends). But worth pointing out we are winning outside the capital as well as inside it, both important for Labour.
🇬🇧🇪🇺We will vote in the next 45 minutes or so here in Brussels.
I will be voting against the Withdrawal Agreement. I believe Brexit is a terrible mistake that will damage our country: I cannot and will not give my approval to that.
National tactical voting sites reinforce a key message for Leics & Rutland for the PCC election:
If you want an end to Conservative chaos, please vote Labour & Co-operative on Thursday.

@ayeshahazarika

showing again he’s far more Prime Ministerial than the Prime Minister
Today we submitted my nomination papers for the Police & Crime Commissioner election in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.
There’s a clear choice at this election: more Conservative chaos or serious leadership, real change and safer streets with Labour.

It's 2021: I still believe, as I always have, that this is a country at its best when we seek to lead on the global stage with compassion, co-operation, partnership and decency - when we seek to be close to international partners and friends.

No official leadership hustings scheduled in the East Midlands.
The region which includes, for example, Bolsover, Bassetlaw, Ashfield, Mansfield, Loughborough, NE Derbyshire, Corby, Northampton, Lincoln, Gedling, Broxtowe, Erewash.
Venues for Labour leadership hustings:
Surely possible to find somewhere between Birmingham and Durham? And in easy reach of members in so many seats lost at the election and which will have to be won back, and where members views need to be heard.
Every Labour leadership and deputy leader candidate should publish their CLP’s voter contact rate.
I know it’s not the only measure of community campaigning, but it gives a good, reliable insight into campaign and organisational leadership.

I used to walk past this section of the Berlin Wall just outside the European Parliament several times a week.
My generation has been fortunate to know only, and to benefit from, a Europe with freedom. Let’s not ever take that for granted.
No idea who will sit in my seat in the Parliament Hemicycle or my office next.
On this sad day for the UK and EU, whoever they are and wherever they are from, I wish them well and good luck. 🇬🇧🇪🇺
I thought Ed Miliband was wrong to resign straight away, the morning after the 2015 defeat.
Jeremy Corbyn could not do anything more appropriate later this morning than resign as leader. This cannot go on.
2024 here we go…

Many of us raised concerns when we were first briefed by Govt officials on the Settled Status scheme and predicted that this would happen to our consistuents and fellow citizens.
