7 years ago this month 10 people, including 5 children and a pregnant mother, died in the fire in Carrickmines. In the weeks after the fire, the bereaved survivors were physically blocked from staying at another Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown Council halting site by local residents.

A vaccine in less than a year is amazing. It really shows that we could end hunger, address climate change or overcome other major challenges if the political will was there.

- They told us it was unconstitutional to freeze rents. - They told us AirBnB wasn't to blame. - They told us the market would fix itself. Now the market has been laid bare, shown up for what it was: out of control! The whole time, we knew they were wrong. This proves it.

Up to 4,900 homes on Airbnb in Dublin available (without tourists), + 000s more as students go online/leave city.. this will likely solve the rental crisis & bring down rents. Landlords would be wise to keep the tenants they’ve got ( @RobCross247 Jan ‘20)

With Ulster Bank exiting the market, it's long overdue that we give the Credit Union movement in Ireland the ability to support local businesses and potentially enter the mortgage market. Our Credit Unions have €16bn in deposit! If we put that to use:

Tonight in Dublin the Gardaí are turning people away from the royal canal while Dublin City Council have closed a public plaza on the grand canal. We don't respect or trust our youth with public places; literally locked out. At every turn the message is, this city's not for you.

30mins of @RTERadio1 flagship maritime programme Seascapes. It’s like an advert for industry. Not a single mention of our plummeting fish stocks, mass coral destruction, species extinction or the industrial destruction of our seas. The denial of the scientific reality is scary.

Why do we keep presenting climate action as an option to be considered when it's not? Imagine the fire brigade arriving at your burning house and saying "Well of course we can get to work but it means your things will get wet so just think about it first."

An unreported truth about the #AmazonFires ; the majority of land clearing is for cattle rearing. With the Mercosur trade deal 10'000s heads of cattle will be shipped to the EU. It's OUR demand for meat that's partially driving this. If we really want to have an impact, quit meat!

Dublin City Council CEO Owen Keegan said he believes homeless tents should be removed  from the capital, and that they add to a perception that the city is “edgy”.  #homeless #not1home

Was going to angry tweet something about Mícheál Martin saying there was no bailout. But here's a picture of my new puppy instead (who I would prefer as Taoiseach).

So let me get this straight. FFG can pay the private hospitals, owned by their pals, €115m per month.. but can't pay student nurses?

The spread of #COVID19ireland is very serious. If you're planning or organising an event, remember that the experts are calling on us to flatten the curve. We achieve this with social distancing. It may not be profitable or pleasant, but the right thing to do is postpone.

Here's something I wrote about living in this Republic of Scandal of ours. Before you vote tomorrow - give serious thought to the kind of country we've lived in for so long and most importantly, whether we want that to continue. #EUelections2019 #localelection2019 #radicalchange

@lukeming Bells can be cruel but there’s an alternative. Birds will see colourful or large collars and they’re proven to work, such as: All cats should have one, the bird population is plummeting.

@EndaBrady The model is proven to work internationally. Mondragon in Spain, Desjardins Group in Canada, Norinchukin in Japan, Triodos Bank etc. There's hundred's of amazing examples across the world. Credit Unions are one of the most resilient models as they're decentralised. We can do it!

At @NaGaeilOga (the first Irish-language GAA club outside of a Gaeltacht) we are hosting a new course for people wishing to coach our games through Irish! There's no reason why GAA clubs the length and breadth of the country can't start running activities as Gaeilge. Bígí Linn!

We’re hurtling toward a situation where the sea, primarily in big storm events, is going to destroy large swathes of our coastal towns and cities. This decade! But the economy. Bla bla bla. What is it people don’t get, there will be no economy.

The criminality in #Tallaght tonight is never justified. But using the incidents to condemn an entire community is so wrong and out of touch with reality. Make an effort to understand the consistent, entrenched disadvantage that parts of Dublin face before spouting ignorant bias.

Our parents knew that their homes were for the long term, so getting to know neighbours, building local groups and investing time and effort in the community was a top priority. Now, generation rent, with no certainty about the future, simply won't invest that time.

Instead of Tweedledee, imagine: 🌈 A united left campaign 🎯 Targeting seats with an agreed data model 🤝 Sharing resources, activists & energy ✊ Replicating the success of Repeal, driving turnout up Hard choices about who to run where, yes. Worth it for a shot at real change?

How's that for global solidarity? Aer Lingus flight EIN9018, staffed by volunteers, about to land on the other side of the world, to collect PPE from China. Before doing it all over again! Imagine a world where this kind of care and solidarity was our norm, not the exception.

Dissapointing from Fine Gael & Fianna Fáil voting down the bill to lower the voting age to 16 for local and EU elections. Obviously afraid of that vote going to Sinn Féin as per opinion polls but unwilling to put in the work to win them over -as should be the norm in a democracy.

Just think about that. It's actually chilling. A major fossil fuel company is stopping people who should be THE most vocal on climate change from saying anything. I'm actually much more angry about this now than I was before! Please, alumni and social entrepreneurs, speak up.

How, in the age of GDPR, is WhatsApp (owned by Facebook) allowed to get away with a feature where anybody can add me to a group with dozens of people I don't know, automatically giving them all my number, without asking my permission!?
