Ben Roethlisberger on doctor visit Friday: "It was a good report. I got to bypass the tennis ball throwing for a month and go right to the football. Still going to be about 2.5-3 months until I get total clearance from doc but we are doing good!
I don’t tweet much, but I couldn’t let this go. I had a great time/dinner tonight in Naples with my old partner,
@JoeStarkey1
, and his wonderful family. I don’t miss work, but I miss him. I am honored to call him my friend.
A Ben Roethlisberger update: He will see his doctors in LA Feb. 21 and hopes to get clearance to start throwing tennis balls and other light objects. He remains confident he will be ready for the Steelers' offseason work in May. Roethlisberger had elbow surgery Sept. 23.
I bet I received 1,000 texts of sympathy about my mom's passing, many from those who don't like me or my opinions. Too many to thank individually. I read/appreciate each text. I don't usually have much use for the hate on Twitter, but it was beautiful for me this time. Thank you.
A year ago today, I lost my mother, Ruth. I still want to call her three times a day like I always did. I miss her every day. I loved her so much, If you are lucky enough to still have your mom, give her an extra hug. You will never have a better friend.
Ben Roethlisberger on throwing a football Saturday for the first time since his elbow surgery: "It felt amazing to throw. It was hard to hold the smile in. 2 more throwing sessions while I’m out here in California and then headed back to the burgh."
Today is my mom's 96th birthday. My daughter Taylor and I are so blessed to still have her in our life. She still is strong, sharp and independent. Happy Birthday, Ruth Cook! Here's hoping you have many more healthy, happy birthdays. You are loved more than you know.
Seriously, how does anyone enjoy snow? What is good about it? Shoveling it? Slipping on it? Freezing in it? Give me 90 degrees and sunny any day of the week, month and year.
I have told
@CamHeyward
to his face ... His old man would be so proud of him. As a football player, sure. But more as a good man who works tirelessly to make our city better.
Happy 70th birthday to the most popular Steelers player of all time, Jack Lambert. There hasn't been another one like him. There never will be another like him. Here's hoping he has many more healthy, happy birthdays.
Just ran into Mayor
@billpeduto
at PPG Paints Arena. Thanked him for the way he has represented us in a brutal time. His leadership is just one more reason to be proud of being a Pittsburgher.
I had an amazing eight days with my baby, Taylor, at Marco Island, Fla. She is why I get up every morning. I love her more than life itself I am so proud and blessed to be her dad … Now it is on to football and hockey seasons.
My daughter, Taylor, moves into her new apartment in Seattle today and starts the next chapter of her life. I have no doubt she is going to be a star. I just wish it wasn't so far away. Be safe and be smart, Baby Doll. I love you with all my heart.

There are no worse fans in sports than Philly fans. I'm guessing many -- not all -- are subhuman. I wanted to laugh watching their "celebration" Sunday night but I was too busy crying. What a joke they are. What an embarrassment.
Condolences go out to KDKA TV-2's Bob Pompeani
@KDPomp
on the death this morning of his father. What a gift Bob gave his pop. He made him proud every day. There is no better gift for a parent. RIP Mr. Pompeani.
I lost my mom on Nov. 8, 2020, just a few weeks before her 98th birthday. She would be 100 today. I still can't believe she didn't make it. Taylor and I miss you every day, Ruth. We love you with all our heart.
I hope for his sake that Mike Tomlin isn't watching Pats-Jags. If he is and sees James Harrison, he is sick to his stomach. Maybe the worst move Tomlin made all year was letting Harrison go.
So who do you like in the Super Bowl, Pittsburgh? Tom Brady, James Harrison and the Patriots or LeGarrette Blount and the Eagles from hated Philly? Are you even going to watch? Might be a good day to fold T-shirts.
Prayers go out to Rick Tocchet and his mom, who is fighting a hard fight against brain cancer. Tocchet is one of the great players, great coaches and great people in Penguins history. The Arizona Coyotes are lucky to have him. He will make them winners.
What an amazing kid Ryan Shazier is. At the basketball games, last night. Working out today. I have so much respect for him. I love his attitude. Feeling sorry for himself? No way. We all can learn something from him.
Steelers personnel guru Art Rooney Jr. once told me Penn Hills' Bill Fralic was the only high school player he ever saw who might have been able to jump to the NFL. What a man Fralic was. What a great person. RIP
Nothing better than watching opening-day baseball in Pittsburgh with the best announcer in sports. Three times in four years. Thanks to the great Doc Emrick for a really nice tradition.
This is the second Mother's Day without my mom. What I would give to take her to Domenico's in Cranberry for gnocchi just one more time. I love you, Ruth. Taylor and I miss you every day. Life just isn't the same without you. Thank you for everything.
Saw Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez at PNC Park Sunday. Walked by him and we exchanged hellos. You have no idea how badly I wanted to say, "Nice game, Pretty Boy!" How do you not love Newman? "I despise Keith Hernandez!" Who will ever forget it?
I don’t think anyone has impressed me more than Ryan Shazier. Doesn’t feel sorry for himself. Just works to get better. Kevin Colbert called him an inspiration. That’s an understatement.
My baby girl Taylor turns 23 today. 23 on the 23rd! I am so lucky to be her dad. She makes me proud every second of every day. Love you so much, Sweet Pea! Many more healthy, happy birthdays.
I lost my best friend two years ago today. I had the best mother in the world. She had the best granddaughter. She would be 100 on Dec. 18. Taylor and I love you, Ruth. We miss you every day.
Happy Father's Day to all dads. There's no greater gift in life than being a dad. I am the most blessed man in the world because of my daughter, Taylor. I just wish I still had my dad. Lost him in 2004. The most amazing man I have known. Miss you, Ray. Always will miss you.
Sympathy to Don Nehlen on the loss of his wife. Don was the first coach I covered at the Pittsburgh Press. Great man and a terrific coach. What he did for years and years at WVU in a small state with little local talent was incredible. One of the top college coaches ever.
Tremendous piece by

about one of Pittsburgh's best human beings. Those of us lucky to know Tunch are sick about his diagnosis. You will know him a lot better after reading this column.-->> via

Happy Birthday to the great Doc Emrick. A terrific play-by-play man. A better person. I treasure our friendship. Here’s wishing many more healthy, happy birthdays for Doc.
Best of luck to Neil Walker. He will be good for the Yankees. It's nice to see him with a team that has a chance to win it all. He deserves a ring. One of the good people in all of sports.
Happy 24th birthday to my daughter, Taylor!
@xslazz
is the reason I get up every morning. She is the absolute best part of my world. I am so proud of her and so lucky to be her dad. I thank God for her every night. Many more happy, healthy birthdays, Baby Doll.
My dad passed away when I was 16 from cancer and before he died he pre payed flowers so i could receive them every year on my birthday. Well this is my 21st birthday flowers and the last. Miss you so much daddy. 💜
Tunch Ilkin is one of the most positive, mentally strong people I've known in sports. He has a tough battle ahead against ALS. No one is better prepared for it. Check out my piece from 2012 on Tunch and his late wife Sharon.-->> via

Happy Birthday to my amazing daughter, Taylor. 27 years ago today you came into the world and made me the happiest dad in the world. I love you with all my heart. I am proud of you every second of every day. Many more healthy, happy birthdays.
@xslazz
I fear for the great city of Philadelphia. I hope their "fans" don't burn down the place if the Eagles win today. I hope they don't burn the place down if the Eagles lose. But nothing will surprise me.
I am hoping for a Vegas-Washington Cup final. Alex Ovechkin thought he conquered his demons when he beat the Penguins. I would love to see if he can conquer Marc-Andre Fleury.
Happy Birthday to the one and only Doc Emrick. A great man doesn’t get older. He just keeps getting better. Here’s wishing many more healthy, happy birthdays to a wonderful human being.
Another legend is gone ... Roy Clark passes away at 85. One of the legends when I was a much younger man. Who doesn't remember Hee Haw? What entertainment!
John Lennon was shot to death 40 years ago tonight. I remember Howard Cosell announcing it to the country as if it were yesterday. Lennon was my favorite Beatle. Who was yours?
Bill Buckner passed away early the morning of May 27th surrounded by his family. Bill fought with courage and grit as he did all things in life. Our hearts are broken but we are at peace knowing he is in the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
Bill was 69.
Love watching
@jordy_mercer
play ball. He is a winning ballplayer. I can't think of a better compliment for a guy. Mercer and Josh Harrison could play on my team any day.
This is one of the most powerful postgame messages you'll ever hear.

Loved the Penguins win against New Jersey last night. Finally. But the best part of the night was the David Puddy sighting in full Devils face and chest paint. Priceless. Raised big money for St. Jude's Children Hospital by doing it. Good for him.
Jim Leyland started to argue with the umpire, but God Bless America came on, he composes himself, takes his hat off, stands politely for the rendition and goes back after the umpire after it’s done. Legendary stuff right here
After the Penguins fell 3-0 behind the Bruins, fans began sarcastically cheering Matt Murray when he made a save.
“No comment,” Murray said when asked about his treatment from the fans.
It was a “no comment” that said plenty, writes
