Today is Emancipation Day, which recognizes the day Britain's Parliament abolished slavery across the British Empire in 1834. Or to put it another way - the long battle for freedom was won on this day in 1834 and my ancestors were no longer enslaved ✊🏿

Paul Robeson, African-American singer, actor & communist was born on this day in 1898. He appeared at Belle Vue, Manchester, in 1949 at a rally organised by boxer and communist Len Johnson. Robeson for me stands next to Angela Davis, James Baldwin, Muhammad Ali & Fidel Castro.

There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that the Tories have embarked on a strategy of herd immunity and that because of it many people will die. They must be held to account for this. In the meantime wear a mask- save lives!
