Unpopular opinion: I don't think high schoolers should be forced to read classic literature. I know, I wasn't ready until much later. Rather, I'd like to see them read contemporary fiction that meets them where they are and turns them into lifelong readers. That's our future.

People who can stay up all night and still function (drive, work, think, speak, etc.) amaze me. My son stays awake for 24 hours a couple times a week. Even as a teen I couldn’t do it. My body and mind actually shut down. Anyone else like this? Just me? 😳

@KyleLeeWriter That seems to be one of two main themes from this discussion. 1. Classics still have a place, but could be mixed with more contemporary work. 2. How the students are taught makes a HUGE difference. Not all teachers are created the same and a good teacher is an amazing gift! 😀

I am terrified by the soon-to-be $1B industry of generating AI girlfriends (with images and interactions) for men. It will further erode reality and expectations for men who may struggle to find a real gf. I’m afraid it could lead to various forms of violence or abuse. ☹️

@LAThomasAuthor A cliché is a single phrase/sentence that has been overused to the point of losing any originality. I think a trope is a story structure/mechanism that is common across a genre. Ex. One trope in fantasy is to have an evil overlord that must be defeated by the hero.🤔

Last Thursday, I finally tested negative after a week of Covid. After a tough night, I just tested positive again. There is a phenomenon known as Covid rebound, where symptoms return within 2-8 days after a negative test. Ugh! Thanks a lot Covid. 😝

The dangers of pantsing: I carefully thought through my theme for my current WIP before starting. I’m now 10k words in, and I can’t see how/where it might fit into the narrative. Instead, an unplanned theme seems to have taken root and grown strong. But…my big plan. 🤨

I’m listening to Salem’s Lot by Steven King. It’s his 2nd book and is littered with adverbs. It’s fascinating to see his evolution. In the current chapter, I think one character has “smiled gently” at least 8-10 times. Hone your craft, but don’t wait for perfection. 😀

@AceOfWords I had so many of those moments during my WIP. In some cases, the spontaneous research leads to a whole different aspect of the work. In other cases, an hour of research might result in a word or phrase. But, it’s also the fascinating part of historical fiction. #amwriting

I’m getting that strange feeling again. I can only describe it as, “I think there’s something in this bed with me.” It’s somewhere twisted in the sheets or under the small mound of blankets between my ankles. I feel it. Breathing. Growing. A new story idea is hunting me.
