India was able to detect only 1 in 33 cases as of May 31st as estimated from the 4th ICMR serosurvey
Bihar: 1/134
UP: 1/100

Detection was much better in Kerala (1/6) & Maharashtra 1/12)

@NDTV
was far from perfect. But it's the closest to being independent among all conventional mainstream news channels in India. As a democracy, we should be deeply worried that there will be no more mainstream news channels critical of the ruling political party.
NDA vote share in Kerala increased from 15.6% in 2019 to 19.2% in 2024, a nearly 4 percentage point increase! It's a shame that when the rest of India including UP is increasingly rejecting BJP & its ideology, more Keralaites try to embrace them! I feel sad as a Keralaite.
So much to please! Vaccination was reduced for a week to inflate numbers on PM’s birthday.

But, 66% of these were ordered only 10 days back.

Vaccinations under the Universal Immunization Programme India started in the early 80s has always been free for citizens.

It is the duty of the govt. of the day. Should I constantly remind them about the taxes I pay?

Indeed, ludicrous is Govt. of India's varied rebuttals on a number of studies (some published in peer-reviewed scientific journals) estimating COVID19 excess deaths in India most showing estimates ranging between 3 to 6 million compared to the half-million official GoI figure.
GoI owns 29.2% share of ITC, the largest tobacco company in India. It's a clear conflict of interest against public health.
Tobacco use is responsible for 3500+ daily deaths in India. No GST or excise tax increase on tobacco for over 5 years.
#ASHA
workers showed up at my door today collecting info on those vaccinated & seeking if anyone has yet to get a shot.
#Kerala
has been doing a phenomenal job on vaccination.
Roughly 80% of all its adults & 60% of its entire population already got at least a single dose.👏👏
No tax increase on any tobacco products for 5 years in a row. But the GST council doesn't have time to discuss it despite knowing that it's a product that's responsible for the death of 3500+ Indians every single day & taxation is a useful instrument to tackle this menace.

By all means, let us celebrate it like today for the next 49 days, Modi-ji🙏

#Delhi
seems to be manufacturing its current peak!
First, it reduces daily testing significantly from over 100K in April 2nd week to under 75K
Then it started reporting a slight fall in daily cases!
Remember, a pandemic does its thing however you chose to report it.
Int'l. crude prices were going up from Jan to March 8 but India's domestic oil prices stayed like a rock.
Now Int'l crude prices are going down but our domestic prices going up every day.
Elections, not market forces, determine India's fuel prices to a greater extent.
The "90% rise in
#COVID19
cases" the day before & the "40% fall" yesterday are both meaningless.
The media loves to play with dramatic headlines to capture some eyeballs.
India received 6497 ventilators as foreign aid in 17 days from 27 Apr to 13 May.
And that is as much as 62% of the additional ventilator capacity India generated on its own in its public sector during the 10 months from Apr 2020 to Jan 2021.
So much for pandemic preparedness!
Some epi models predict 8L-10L daily
#COVID19
cases in India in the next 2-3 weeks. In all likelihood, India is already having that many daily infections. However, will India ever report that many daily new cases?
My guess: our reported cases will not go >5L to 6L!
why?

India's COVID19 testing story in one chart!
At the end of 1st wave, we were doing 63 tests/case & our TPR was 1.6%
Now, we're doing a mere 4.5 tests/case & TPR at 22.3%!
Even at the peak of the 1st wave, we were doing 11.4 tests per case compared to the current 4.5!
Vaccinations last week
45.1 million doses (64.4L / day)
Vaccinations this week
27.2 million doses (38.9L / day)
Difference between a vaccination PR exercise week & a regular week.
👉India reported 2% less new
#COVID19
cases past 7 days compared to the 7 days before that!
👉
#India
did 7% less tests at the same time!
👉This at a time when our test positive rate is at 9.3%
👉You want to call this good news? I'd say, test less & find less!
Some good news on COVID-19 from India. This was the first week in 6 months that the number of new COVID-19 cases was less than the number in the previous week. Good sign indeed, even though it’s too early to tell if this means the country is over the peak.
Out of the approx. half a million reported
#COVID19
deaths in India 55,600 (~11%) were reported from
#Kerala
which has only 2.6% of India's population!
This, to me, shows the extent of underreporting of C19 deaths in India which are estimated to be more than 3 Million.

Unfortunately, in India, we got a system that rewards success based on officially reported numbers on paper. This incentivizes many states to "manage" the pandemic data more than the pandemic itself with the consequence being ever increasing missing deaths.
