Out of the approx. half a million reported #COVID19 deaths in India 55,600 (~11%) were reported from #Kerala which has only 2.6% of India's population! This, to me, shows the extent of underreporting of C19 deaths in India which are estimated to be more than 3 Million.

While the headlines are about the 15% overall WPI inflation, check out the inflation on select items (mostly essential goods). Vegetables as a group had 23% inflation. Kerosene 118%. Compare with inflation of Bidis & Cigarettes. But, we've got enough issues to distract.

We need vaccines, not #mankibaat 7 months into the vaccinations & only 25% of Indians got at least a single dose & 6.8% got a double dose (i.e., 9.9% of the 18+ population) Current avg. jabs: 40L/day. Should be 91L / day to jab all 18+ by the year-end. But where's the vaccine?

Unfortunately, in India, we got a system that rewards success based on officially reported numbers on paper. This incentivizes many states to "manage" the pandemic data more than the pandemic itself with the consequence being ever increasing missing deaths. 10/

In today's @the_hindu , I explain the rising #COVID19 cases in #Kerala & about the worry of a 3rd pan-India wave. 40K+ cases expected in the immediate term. If the state can't handle that caseload, it may be wise to go in for a complete lockdown for a very short period.

Using the latest ICMR 3rd sero survey results during Dec 2020, we can see that #Kerala was able to identify & report one in every 5 cases, while all of India was able to identify only 1 in every 28 cases. It shows the effectiveness of testing strategy used in Kerala 2/

The excess deaths across 24 districts in #UttarPradesh were found to be 43 times higher than the official #COVID19 death toll according to this report in @Article14live by @OfficialSauravD . Published studies at the national level show actual C19 deaths to be 6-7 times higher. ++

India crossed 5 Lakh #COVID19 cases & 15689 deaths y'day. Number of days it took for each lakh case: ➡️1L 139 ➡️2L 15 ➡️3L 10 ➡️4L 8 ➡️5L 6 Next 1L should take only 5 days (July 1st). Total case grow at 3.7% suggesting 20 days doubling time. My projection is for 10L by July 22.
