Happy birthday to one of the greatest Northern Soul venues ever, the Golden Torch in Tunstall. First opened as a venue on January 31st, 1965, Chris Burton’s club would host amazing All-Nighters in 1972-73, with hundreds travelling there from all around the UK. 👏

Happy birthday to the father of Northern Soul, Dave Godin. A wonderfully evocative snap when Dave met Barbara Lynn back in 1999 at the Cala Gran Soul Weekender in Fleetwood, Lancashire. Both geniuses are included in the 2021 Northern Soul calendar.

@tonyblackburn It’s a matter of programming the “right” sounds from the 60s & 70s though. Plenty of dross hyped into the charts which needs to be cut out and more accent of the “feel good/ uplifting” sounds that were too good for the UK charts. There’s plenty of them - we call it Northern Soul

One of the most powerful sounds ever to shake the dance floor at Wigan Casino in 1974. The song inspired a design that would adorn hold-alls & record boxes at the world-famous All-Nighter. It’s one of the 45s in my ⁦ @solarradio ⁩ shows in the coming Sundays. 10am UK time x

It was such an honour to be invited to play a DJ set at today’s magnificent 20th anniversary of the Twisted Wheel Sunday afternoon Northern Soul & Motown sessions. I met so many wonderful people. Very emotional. One of these ladies even took care of me when I was in hospital ❤️👏
