@shastorra
“I was given differing advice, opinion and information about my pregnancy” and I had the right to make a decision based on what felt right for me and I’m happy with my decision so anyone who aborts is wrong and they shouldn’t have a choice….
@CryptikHavok
@LoisMcLatch
How dare women make any choice that “inconveniences” them physically, financially and emotionally for the rest of their actual lives!
@angijones
Nightclub toilets in a venue where you’re socialising in a crowd likely of men and women is different to say swimming pool or gym change rooms where women could reasonably expect not to have a man sharing the space.
@shastorra
It’s pressure when it’s advice you don’t agree with and support when you do agree. I had two abortions, I have two children. I don’t define myself as a murderer. Neither does the law.
@ToshGreenslade
Telling grown women to smile and act nice to please men and not “disrespect” them is also grooming and coercive control. It’s time we started calling this out.
@cockspit
@sivanalyrarose
I mean, it kind of is though - women have been shamed into changing so much…and then shamed further for the time it takes and the effort.
@SusanSmithAus
Why are you even shocked? This will be dragged out for weeks. Meanwhile silence on Porter, Tudge, Deves, Small, Joyce, the Indue card, Covid, The Future Leaders Fund….I don’t even have room to list it all.
@PatsKarvelas
It’s pretty disingenuous to suggest that Kitching’s death has exposed this - we all know politics is dirty - and demanding on both sides of the fence. Weaponising a death is a new low - among many.
@lavosaurus
Or refusing to meet and stand up for a female staffer raped in his workplace and trying to placate women by noting women in other countries would be shot for complaint about being raped….
@MFWitches
I just worked a case where the father groomed and abused his own daughters - and several of their school friends over several years. He was 35 when he met their mother - she was 17. Predators play a long game. And it’s men. Men do this.
@MagdaSzubanski
At my thinnest I was 42kg. I was also a heroin addict and miserable. I’m double that now and content. I’m delighted to be taking up more space in the world. I earned that space.
@KobieThatcher
Curious as to where your great grandparents are from. Because you know…immigration. Or are you only talking about brown people when you say you feel outnumbered? Racist much?
@RachaelWongAus
@VicGovAu
Are we really being asked to trust that a man who is dressed as a woman is somehow safer than a man that isn’t? It has been determined that trans offending patterns reflect birth sex not gender.
@dzyngier
@JaneCaro
@vanbadham
Both his political and spiritual creed are all about demonising those who are disabled or disadvantaged. He keeps showing us who he is. When are we going to see it?
@ChrisMinnsMP
I feel like the trade role barely scratches the surface of what’s gone in this ever deepening abyss of self serving, corrupted government.
@macsween_prue
And yet no word on “alleged” serial rapist and serial grifter Bruce who is profiteering at our expense….you aren’t - but you should be deeply ashamed.
@NoToMisogyny
What is “woman face”? Make up? Women aren’t defined by cosmetics. Happy for bobs to wear make up, dresses, paint nails. Love drag. Men wearing makeup are not women.
@NatashaVomit
Perfect! Can I steal it please? Volunteered, studied and did everything I could to better my prospects - got a job - six months later I’m still getting calls from the bloke who said no to funding driving lessons that were all I needed support with.
My ex just filed an IVO against me (I filed for child support). His claim is I called him 15 times in one day - I haven’t called him 15 times all year….and yet I need to go to court to contest this.
@VidianOnX
@Lipstick_Mystic
@lovewins11011
Yes, a lot of men do find other people’s feelings tiresome and unattractive - usually the men who are abusive, narcissists that gaslight women.
@BronwynHill1
I had an abortion when I was 18. One night stand with a DJ. Later on at 32 I had another - pregnant to then partner. We were drug addicts. Women have parenthood foisted on them like it’s some divine calling. It’s not. It’s hard, life changing, lifelong & expensive!
@Thiohna
I had two. Regret nothing. I was 17 with first - pregnant to 32 yr old married police officer. Second, I was single and working for a magazine. Too busy and not ready for a baby. Now I have two beautiful children 11 and 13 and zero regrets. I became a mum when I was ready.
@JaneCaro
@HayleyFoster_
@ABCthedrum
So basically the answer is yes. Perpetrators rights to privacy absolutely outstrip women and children’s safety. That’s why we don’t have national registers identifying violent men. That’s why we don’t curtail their freedom, monitor them - and that’s why they offend repeatedly.
Bruce Lehrmann attempting to profit after raping a woman, five women stabbed in a mall, Michael Slater in custody, three women dead in Ballarat and now another stabbing - all violence from men. When are we going to get serious about safety from violent men?
@rachellejmiller
No. The abuse is not ok. You did a brave thing being honest at the RC and you’ve been gracious in your well wishes for Alan Tudge and his family. I hope you get some peace. Take care.
@Milliganreports
A terrible experience. The deaths and destruction of the drug trade and corruption weigh heavy. The people who pay the highest price are not the ones that benefit. Lives lost in vain while drug lords and corrupt “leaders” and “law makers” profit. Wrong on so many levels.
@JaneCaro
@murpharoo
Best writing I’ve seen yet on Kimberley Kitching’s tragic death. So very tired of the nasty finger-pointing happening in politics.
@phveektordrayne
He is 54. We have two children. He has not seen for 3 years. No child support. His new 27yo girlfriend has not only cheated on him, but has also reported him to police for FV and he is currently locked up.
@ajphelo
@AustralianLabor
Still waiting for the release of Barbaby’s flood reports, all of Phil Gaetjens reports, details of the $500,000 payout and the mystery trust set up to buy Christian Porters safety….
@deemadigan
What Christian Porter and Pauline Hanson did to Family Court is a disgrace. Whole system needs overhauling. Archaic, inaccessible and under-resources.
@rage_and_resist
@AbortionChat
I had a similar experience. I’m so glad I didn’t bring a baby into my life back then. I love being a mum now, but I wasn’t capable back then.
@PhillipAdams_1
Me! 7 years ago I was homeless, my kids got taken and I spent a few days in prison - now I work in specialist family violence. Change can happen. Given the opportunity to do well, we can. Lived experience matters in our service sector. And I’d love to finish my masters!
@BendingFrames
@isabellayonce
Yes, “random stranger” attacks are actually the exception. The absolute majority of abuse and assault is perpetrated by those closest to, and most trusted by us.
@MichaelGLFlood
Super frustrating that despite all the reports and data we have on DFV, our social, legal and professional responses remain focussed on managing the impact and not the behaviour.
@MagdaSzubanski
And by diet culture what is really meant is beauty culture - which is basically women (but increasingly men) being pressured to look a certain way to be attractive. It’s hugely damaging. And we need to stop being so shallow and redefine what is beautiful. You are beautiful Magda.
@MareeRyan7
@ArtistAffame
@Tony_Burke
No. I was studying full time, working casually and volunteering 6 hours a week with child protection and still had to apply for 15 jobs a month - while single parenting a 9 and 10 yr old!
@Smartymarty66
@TByrne75
Excellent point we expect disabled people to always use a unisex toilet and they have never had an option about that. Despite being a particularly vulnerable toilet using cohort.
@macsween_prue
To be fair, even if those texts were not leaked, the opinions and sentiment they contain about the PM are the iceberg - and probably just the tip.
@purplepingers
@jeremyrockliff
I was told by dept of housing (vic) to advise a client who fled violence and couldn’t return to her unit to give up her tenancy making herself homeless to be given priority for a property in a different area. 8 mths later she and her 1yr old are still homeless.
@noplaceforsheep
Bridget McKenzie had told us to think of it as a term deposit. It can’t be touched yet. She wants it to get up to 6billion before it can be spent.
@MikeCarlton01
@abcnews
I just don’t understand the ABC lately - very frustrating that Twitter is more newsy than the actual news. Having said that, there is a place for articles like this. We have a long way to go in understanding coercive control and abusive relationships.
@vesna2001
@margo694
@MyAsiofreeID
Housing expenses are destroying people financially. Just to keep a roof over your head is roughly half of the poverty line income. For jobseekers it’s basically their entire income.
@rachellejmiller
We all make mistakes. We all prioritise our own self interest. Don’t justify yourself. You spoke up. You told the truth. That’s enough.
@Nevincooperkeel
@JessPected
Why would it matter which parent was home or working? I’m a single parent with 100% care - even working part time I earn double what my ex does. He doesn’t even pay the $10 a week child support he is supposed to.
@OurNewHomecoach
It’s similar with child protection and family services. As a society, we really do fail our vulnerable. Earlier and better help would prevent so much statutory intervention.
@RonniSalt
@QldPolice
Now picture any man doing this to a woman behind closed doors every day - where’s the outcry over that? Yeah that’s right nowhere unless someone is killed and it makes the news. One woman every single week.
@Milliganreports
I work in family services - and I appreciate my own family more than ever. So grateful for the work you do and the light you shine on darkness. We need to see it but I know it must take a toll. Take care.
@worldofwisdom23
@ML_Philosophy
But does it though? I’m single and less isolated now than I was in a relationship - I have friends, I have work and I have family. I had none of that with a partner.
@gregmlarsen
Nailed it. Total madness the way we expect people to live. Controlled by global organisations and the media who see us as nothing more than labour to be measured by financial productivity.
@macsween_prue
@POTUS
What an utterly ridiculous thing to say! I’m stunned that in light of what is actually happening this is the comment you have chosen to make.
@oldbluedog
@colintucker
It’s super hard when doing everything right doesn’t make everything alright - very difficult to come to terms with. Im so glad to see all the supportive messages here.
@lurioosi
@thechosenberg
Except you don’t see both sides - only his because he is telling us. His post said she was “pretty” before he mentioned the tattoos. Perhaps she picked up on creepy vibes and chose not to engage.
