This morning, I joined Secretary Matt Lohr and Delegate Jed Arnold to assess the damage to many acres of broccoli and cabbage at Bottomley Evergreens and Farm’s Wythe County site.
Unfortunately, the agricultural damage and loss throughout the Ninth District was severe.
We are thankful that Virginia was able to get this expedited disaster declaration so that we can continue this long process of recovery. This will allow us to get resources to our impacted communities and Virginians as fast as possible.
Thanks to Sheriff Chip Shuler for leading Delegate Jed Arnold and myself, along with other state and local officials, around the Sugar Grove and South Fork communities of Smyth County to assess the significant damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

Sunday morning in Grayson County, joined Governor Youngkin and Virginia First Lady Suzanne Youngkin, state and local officials in assessing the hurricane damage to Independence and Fries. The agricultural damage sustained is great.
Work continues to restore power, communications, water, and cell phone coverage immediately. We’re so proud of Virginia first responders for their assistance, the grit and resilience of Virginians and together, we will get through this.
Today Virginia’s Federal Emergency Declaration was approved as we begin the recovery process from

. We will remain continually engaged to help Virginians get the support and help that they need in the aftermath of this powerful storm.
