Twitter account of Cumbria Rugby Union Referees' Society promoting Refereeing in Cumbria. Follow for uptodate info on games. Also promoting rugby at all levels
This means now in Cumbria
3 level 6 teams - 1 level 6 referee
3 level 7 teams - 1 level 7 referee
So when level 6 and 7 League games
cannot go ahead because
their are no Referees available
Maybe spectators and players will realise
"Their is no game without a Referee"
When you get home and the first thing you read is this
It completely spoils the afternoon
When one of Cumbria Societies Senior and longest serving referees feels this strongly their is something wrong
I hope next week when teams have no Referee that realise the consequences
Craig Macfadzean being presented by chair Brian Mitchelhill ( quick pic then back to 2 metres) Life Membership of Cumbria Referees Society for 40 years active Refereeing
Thanks Craig from everyone involved in Cumbrian Rugby
Going To keep this picture😀
Level 7 Keswick v De La Salle
81st minute of free flowing game, move starting in Keswick 22
and the old heart and legs in same frame as winger touching down,
(well there was a Assessor watching)
maybe ask appointments officer for another🤣 level 7
All the Best from members of Cumbria Referees Society
and all involved in Rugby in Cumbria to Ben Blain.
Ben is doing his first 6 Nations game as AR at Twickenham
England v Italy
Hope its the first of many and not too long before you are in the middle🤞
When you get home and the first thing you read is this

Another Saturday without enjoyment. I don’t give up my Saturdays to be constantly criticised by players and spectators and try to ref players who are only interested in cheap shots and fighting. Sorry
@RefereeCumbria
, not available for first team rugby
Following Ciaran Trainor's Tweet re abuse last Saturday and the agreement and support it created.
Cumbria Referees Society has reacted proactively by advising and supporting its Referees to try and reduce the growing problem.
All Cumbrian Clubs are being informed
Great News England v Italy Saturday 13 February 2021

Great Night refereed for first time in 20 months
U 15 Penrith v Cockermouth
Excellent game Credit to both Clubs coaches and
over 45 players plus parents enjoying Rugby again.
more games with Wigton and Upper Eden in this group.
Youth Rugby is Back , Rugby and the future is👌🙂
After a previous tweet
a little reminder to all clubs of their Responsibility
at not only Senior Rugby but especially at Youth Rugby
Clubs must be aware what damage and effect it has on young players and them wanting to enjoy our game
Great to read all the comments on good rugby, great games and friendship with the opposition plus the “positive “ referee reports
Great for this Twitter page
thanks
We were worried about Cumbrian rugby this season
Maybe lancs clubs did us a favour
Enjoy
A lot has been said about the Rugby ( or lack of it ) in Cumbria 2
Today at Aspatria 2 v Penrith 2, shows the reason this league should supported by all teams
The manner and quality of the Rugby a credit to all involved (young and old !)
13 Tries Does the score matter
Rugby Won
puzzled
NWW fixtures out
84 games in cumbria for lancs/ches
2nd 3rd 4th ,colts teams
but there clubs voted against 1st teams
travelling ( expense and difficulty getting players)
different for lower teams?
Hope the RFU takes this into consideration
in the upcoming Review
This is the reason, when league games are cancelled
Enterprising Clubs rearrange games at late notice
and Clubs/players/spectators and officials
get a enjoyable game of rugby in beautiful weather and surroundings
well done to Cockermouth and Wigton
Interesting
Games at Wigton RUFC this afternoon
Cumbria 1 (level7) Wigton v Egremont
Cumbria 2 (level(0 Wigton v Whitehaven
Average age of the 2 Referees
75.5 years young
must be something in the Cumbrian Air
Good luck to Cumbria,s own Ben Blain
Referee Fri 21 Feb
England u20 v Ireland u20
ko 7 45 on sky sports mix
all the best ben from all members of Cumbria Referees Society
Disappointing in Cumbria 1 today
1 game called off because 1 side could not get a team
But credit to the 2 sides that travelled short of players and to the opposition who lent players meaning that 2 other games went ahead and players and referees got a afternoons rugby
Well, have to say my faith in Cumbrian rugby is restored. Excellent game 50-19 closer than the score suggests. Not one penalty for deliberate foul play or dissent and to be greeted on arrival by this in the dressing room was much appreciated.
@WorkingtonRFC
@creighton_rufci
Cumbria RU should call an emergency meeting
because this could be the end of some Cumbria teams
I believe in free choice but if Lancs are dictatating where there clubs play and the RFU are giving their approval
Maybe Cumbria have to do the same
Asked on Monday by West Lakes academy
if could find Referee for U 15 game wed v Trinity School
Alan Jenkinson went to Referee and was greeted with this Egremont RUFC hospitality c/o Billy Maxwell
I also received similar treatment last last Saturday
Well done and thanks

Sat Cockermouth v Wigton 😀

While still refereeing - still 😀
Puzzled
Yesterday the majority of people of ALL ages involved in Rugby Union in the UK i.e. "Community Rugby"
Watched top international Rugby played to a Different Law to the game they will Play/Watch/or a few even attempt to Referee this Season
" Watch but Do Not Learn/copy "
Success for Cumbria Referees Society Recruitment Campaign.
Chris Wright from Cockermouth is joining the Society
as a Associate Society Club Referee Member.
Chris is adding to his extremely wide Rugby
experience by Refereeing when his other Rugby commitments allow.
Welcome Chris
Rugby is back in Cumbria so starting my 47th

some interesting comments in local south wales paper from Bens
game yesterday
(sorry cant show all the article )
but worth a look
and still looking for pictures
So no Boxing Day Keswick v Penrith
Disappointing , just been looking at previous years game pictures
This my favourite bringing back fond memories especially when could not meet up with any family members this Christmas
Thanks to
@Sirbenchallis
for photo
any more contributions
Excellent turnout at Cumbria referees society agm and training meeting
Big thanks to Dave Charlton and martin maughan leading the meeting through the new laws etc for the new season
Really helpful to referees and coaches in attendance
Do not like comments about refereeing on official club websites does not help the problem of getting referees to games when clubs complain very easy when short of referees to think which clubs appreciate referees and those that complain
This is what we are aiming for this saturday
it was a memorable day at twickenham
good luck to all involved
if my memory is correct I was 4th Official in one of early games
in 1997 and 22 years later involved again
hope its as good again .
Big learning curve for my young touch judge in todays game
tight foot on line call in corner try scoring position
Even though he was slightly blocked. when I asked him he was
quite positive and gave a decision without prompting.
Good luck to Cumbria referees Ben Blain doing his 7th pro 14 game this weekend dragons v Munster All the best Ben have a great game from all society members
sorry that due to circumstances we could not be home enjoying the rugby over the festive season
To all involved in Cumbrian Rugby Happy New Year
and to everyone at the game at Keswick today have a great day.
Cheers
More great pictures from
@Sirbenchallis
showing New Cumbria Society Referee Andy Shaw doing
his 2nd Society appointment
at Workington v Wigton yesterday

Good Luck to George Tresidder, Craig Price and Greg Bates
doing what I hope is their first of many games for Cumbria Soc
thanks to my old national panel mate Brian Callender (Northumberland )for helping out at Carlisle
Happy new season to all
Great Afternoons Traditional Rugby at Keswick
Penrith win Firpress Trophy 12-10
lost count of the number of replacements
brillant involvement of young and old
Good game to ref even if my whistle packed up
Trophy first played for in 1988 so 31 years ago
I was doing the same
What is a bit disappointing at the moment is the number of clubs who seem it necessary to put results of lower age grade non league games on the website
Surely it’s is the fact that the youngsters are getting and enjoying playing rugby that matters not a score line
Recruitment Drive
Cumbria President and Referees Society
Chairman Brian Mitchelhill handing over 2 Clubhouse Posters to Cockermouth Chairman Geoff Peet and Egremont Physio Billy Maxwell before last night game at Cockermouth. With Referee Mike Edwards in charge of his 1st game

Hope the Weather in Cumbria improves for games this weekend
after all the cooperation by Society Referees would hate games to be cancelled now because of the weather🌨️⛈️
Puzzled
If a Club decides it does not want to travel to Cumbria
This must mean ALL the teams at that CLUB
why then are 10 teams from those clubs
travelling to Cumbria to play in NW leagues
LANCS HYPOCRISY
that should not be allowed
