I’m asking you to vote for me on November 7th, and join me in building a county where we put people over profits.

"I'm supporting Carl Redwood because the people of Allegheny County should have elected officials that show up and work for them, unapologetically," said
@bethanyhallam
, Allegheny County Councilor At-Large. Vote Independent Carl Redwood for Allegheny County Council.
“ A member of the Democratic Socialists of America, Redwood said he is proud to run as a socialist independent. He said many of the problems that working class and poor residents face in Allegheny County are linked to issues associated with capitalism.”
As you know, our Independent campaign for Allegheny County Council fell short of victory in the election. Still, I am proud of the campaign we ran and deeply grateful for all the support we received from you and many, many more.
🧵
“Some ppl have given up on doing what’s right and instead just do what they think is possible. We have to have a more visionary picture of what’s possible … and that's what this campaign is about.”
💯%.
“Privatizing Shuman Center will not make our community safer.”
I had a moment to speak at County Council tonight on the proposed Adelphoi contractor using Shuman Center to house juveniles without the vote of council.
Council voted tonight to take the issue to court.
I support the 1,400 striking workers of
@ueunion
locals 506 & 618 in their struggle for a fair contract, green jobs, and better future for all working people.

I am running to put people over profits in Allegheny County. A better County is possible. I see a future of housing for all, clean air and water for all, a livable climate for all, and health and safety for all. This future will not be built overnight, but let’s start trying now.
BREAKING: Today we announced an initial round of endorsements of elected officials, past candidates, and organizations supporting
@carl_redwood
's Independent campaign for County Council District 10.
🧵1/10
What a day yesterday!
First: We had a great supporter gathering!
Then: We get endorsed by
@pghSA
THEN: We get over 1200 signatures to get on the ballot
AND we’ve got a solid base to start our campaign assembly.
A campaign by the people, for the people.
#redwoodforcouncil
Today, we demand three things for rate-payers who have lived without clean water for nearly five years— a resident’s advisory board, an immediate moratorium on water shut offs and a utility assistance program for residents serviced by Wilkinsburg-Penn Water Authority.
Capitalists say there is no alternative to capitalism. What I say is that we need to dream and create the alternative — piece by piece. Legislation by legislation.
“I am running to put people over profits in Allegheny County. I see a future of housing for all, clean air and water for all, a livable climate for all, and health and safety for all. This future will not be built overnight, but we can start trying now.”
🧵BREAKING: Today, Carl and
@SamSchmidt2023
announced they are endorsing each other and will be partnering in their Independent campaigns for a shared vision of putting people over profits in Allegheny County.

I am devastated by the killings in Palestine. War will never be in the interest of the poor and working class. I do not condone any attacks on non-combatants, and I mourn all the lives lost.
Read the full statement from Carl in thread or on the website:
Regardless of class, or whether you are Black, brown, or white, you deserve housing. Once elected I will pass a Tenants' Bill of Rights, including Right-to-Counsel for tenants facing eviction, Just Cause requirements for eviction and ending discrimination in Section 8 rents.
Once elected, I will work toward a future where all our neighbors truly have a right to housing by working on the following legislative goals:
Passing a tenants' bill of rights
Housing the Unhoused
Fund Housing for the people — not developers
Fight for Rent Control
I am committed to supporting unionization. As county councilor I will support the efforts of UPMC workers to form a union, the
@ThePUPNews
strikers and
@SBWorkersUnited
organizing stores across our County — and every group of workers organizing for power in their workplace.
I’m asking you to join me in building an Allegheny County that works in the interest of the working class and poor people. Thank you to everyone supporting me in this effort, especially
@justsaychef
who I'm proud to have with me today as we announce this campaign.
I'm honored to have the support of
@fwaction
, and I look forward to working with them to win a countywide fracking ban and consequences for the corporations polluting our air and water!
We’re excited to endorse
@Redwood4Council
for Allegheny County Council District 10! Redwood is a long-time community organizer & social justice advocate who supports a ban on fracking in Allegheny County – and more robust penalties for corporate polluters.
We need to make people over profits a priority in our county and in our region.
Support Redwood for Council by—
Donating or Volunteering. Do those things here:
By putting people over profits we can do far more to help our County's most vulnerable populations than we will by continuing to prioritize support for developers, corporations, and incarcerating people in an unsafe County Jail.
Thank you to
@AlleghenyGreens
for having me at today's kickoff and helping to gather signatures for ballot access.
I'm proud to have
@AlleghenyGreens
with us in this campaign to put people over profits in Allegheny County and fight for the poor and working class.
Polls close at 8PM
Vote for Carl Redwood, Independent for County Council
Join us in fighting for a future of housing for all, clean air & water, and a government that believes we have a right to our basic needs regardless of whether capitalists can extract profit in the process
For 50 years I’ve worked to create a world where our work is valued and we all have a place to live.

Today, 45% of Black children in our region live in poverty.
Between 2010 and 2020, Pittsburgh lost 10,000 Black people. Wilkinsburg lost 2,000.
Our county's unhoused population increased 19% this year.
We cannot afford to turn away from the choice to put people over profit.

I’m running for Allegheny County Council in District 10, because I believe we are at a historic crossroad, and we cannot afford to turn away from the choice to put people over profit and build a better world through a united working class.
We just passed 400 donations to elect
@carl_redwood
!
As an Independent & socialist Carl has an uphill battle to ensure voters know about his campaign. Each donation gives our people-powered campaign tools we need to win.
Will you add the 401st donation?

“Some people have given up on doing what’s right and instead just do what they think is possible. We have to have a more visionary picture of what’s possible … and that's what this campaign is about.”
My campaign is about building a better world. I do not believe our world is better off without the people of Palestine. Collective punishment of an entire people is never justified.
In the first 6 days of bombing alone, the Israeli government stated they dropped more than 6,000 bombs on Gaza, a city of 2 million people, about half of whom are children. That is more than the U.S. dropped on Afghanistan in a year.
Please join us next weekend as we officially kick off the Redwood for Council campaign with our Supporter and Volunteer Gathering!
