Final thoughts today:
1) Life ain’t fair for Wentz
2) It was a goddamn cheap shot.
3) The NFL’s biggest problem is officiating.
4)Fletcher Cox showed up big today. 5) Howie must remake the secondary this off-season.
6) Respect for Ertz, Sanders, Graham & all who played hurt.
Yep, I’m rooting for Andy Reid to get to the Super Bowl. Don’t understand why any
@eagles
fan would have a grudge against him. Those were pretty good years when he was here.
I’ll go on the record: The Eagles (and the fan base) will ultimately regret trading Wentz. I think he’s salvageable and, in the end, better than Jalen Hurts.
Tomorrow will likely be the last game for many Eagles, none more important than
@ZERTZ_86
. The guy is a franchise all-time great, who scored the only Super Bowl-winning TD in franchise history. I salute him.
Jalen Hurts may be a star in the making, but the gleeful burying of Carson Wentz now is repugnant. Yeah, he stunk this year. But national blowhards (Ryan Clark, Rex Ryan) & local snarks attacking Wentz's character & toughness is just shoveling dirt.
Things bugging me right now:
1) Wentz has clearly regressed
2) why did Doug throw 48 times?
3) Holding penalties, dropped passes, overall stupid play
4) A KICKER scored a TD vs Eagles
5) Every CB stinks
6) Doug saying Miami’s “a good team.”
7) Reality: Entire era is over.
If Ben Simmons' agents were really prioritizing his mental health, they wouldn't be embarrassing him with a campaign to get him into the All-Star Game. It just shows what a sham this whole thing is.
Final thoughts
1) Jalen is great - 304 yds, 3 rush TDs
2) Mahomes is the greatest
2) Eags vaunted D Line didn't show up
3) Special teams bit them in the ass
4) That late call was disgraceful
4) I like the future. That said . . .
5) Man, this was an opportunity lost
I learned last night of the passing of my friend Big Daddy Graham. A gem of a man. A diamond in the rough. A funny, hard-working and quirky sweetheart of a guy with no filter. My pal, my co-author. We will all miss him.
Yes, James Harden had a bad game last night. But why should we care that he went out afterward? We've all had a bad day at work & still gone out. Let's not focus on what's irrelevant.
After 31 years, I'm retiring from
@SportsRadioWIP
this July. It's been a joyride, with great partners & producers. I immensely appreciate all the listeners who allowed me into their lives. Being part of Philadelphia's amazing sports scene has been a privilege.
Really feel sorry for Jay Ajayi. The guy was trying to play through injury and tough it out. His career is in jeopardy. He sure helped this team in the Super Bowl. Best wishes to him.
So Joel Farabee got extra money from the Flyers because his contract called for a bonus if he was top three among forwards on the team in plus/minus. He was minus-11.
Things bugging me right now:
1) Wentz making his critics look correct
2) No O Line, no WRs
3) another strong defensive day wasted
4) hold the €#%¥ ball!!!
5) inane play calling
6) Sad reality that the season is over.
Anything I missed?
During McCutchen's first at bat tonight, I turned to my brother-in-law and said, "Father Time has caught up to him."
Two HRs later, my brother-in-law turned to me and said, "How do you have a job talking about sports?"
If you need a rooting interest today, cheer on the Buffalo Bills for this guy. Marv Macnow has been waiting for a Bills title since their last, in 1965. After 55 years, My old man deserves his moment in the sun.
No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game - but how? This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome ... which suddenly seems so irrelevant.
Twenty years from now we’ll still be talking about, “Remember when Bruce Harper hit that eighth inning homer against the Padres to get the Phillies into the World Series?”
It’s an all time moment for this franchise and fan base.
Things I loved today:
1. Wentz’s accuracy
2. Cox having impact again
3. Clean game by secondary
4. Great screen game
5. Fans were insane
6. Jerry Jones’s face
7. Great OL protection
8. Garrett underusing Zeke
9.
@eagles
poised to win division!!
Per
@MattGelb
of The Athletic:
"The team will pay for every employee not based in Philadelphia to fly into town for Games 3-5 at Citizens Bank Park. They’ll receive two tickets to each game."
Class move by John Middleton.
So Jalen Hurts went 7-for-20 passing tonight with 1 INT, 8 rushes for 34 yds, 2 TDS. Not sure what I saw over the last four games convinces me he’s the QB of the future.
This conversation really occurred tonight while I was walking on a street in Cape Cod wearing a green Eagles cap:
Jackass walking by me: “Eagles suck.”
Me: “41 to 33.”
Jackass: (Silence)
Have to say, I was proud of myself there.
This sweet boy has officially joined our family after quite a journey. Please welcome Gregory Macnow, the first child for Alex & Nathan, and grandson No. 3 for Judy & me. We are all beyond delighted.
I turned off the Eagles game, walked upstairs, and discovered my cat had thrown up. So apparently he was watching the game as well. That’ll be a wrap on a perfect night.
I’ve had the pleasure of sharing a studio with this man for 20 years. We wrote a book together. I’ll badly miss working with him, but wish Ray all the best in a well-deserved retirement.
Ray Didinger fights back tears as he announces his retirement: "I just want all of you to know how much I appreciate your friendship and support. It means more to mean than words can ever express."
With 14 days til the Eagles opener, let's honor Doug Pederson. Yeah, Doug was a terrible QB, but he's the only man to coach this franchise to a Super Bowl win. And that has to command your respect.
Not cool Philly the sprinklers on the visitors side of the
#Phillies
ballpark came on and got some of the Atlanta media gear wet. Maybe it’s a coincidence but the sprinklers by the
#Phillies
side did not go on until a few minutes later … 🤨🫣🤔

Jayson Werth announced retirement today. Werth had an .889 OPS for Phils from 2008-10. He averaged 29 HR, 92 R, 89 RBI, 18 SB those 3 years. Had 11 post-season HRS for Phils! Time for fans to get over a silly grudge and embrace the guy. A great Phillie.
Eagles WR Marquise Goodwin after heartbreak losing babies with his wife, says his newborn is why he is opting out 🙏🏼
“I am choosing my family first.
I won’t take the chance of experiencing another loss because of my selfish decision making”

@marquisegoodwin
Amid all the depressing Eagles news these days, take a moment today to salute Brandon Graham, who will play in his 155th game with the team Sunday, tying Trent Cole for the most played by any defensive lineman in franchise history.
It ended poorly for Doug Peterson, but he’s the only coach to do this in Philadelphia. I’ll always appreciate him for that. Best of luck down the road, Doug.
How great is it to wake up this morning, and the first thing in your mind is, "Yeah, the Eagles won 38-7." Now we all get to sit back today and watch the games stress free.
I watched Eagles fans sitting out in the windy, cold, torrential downpour for hours today - watching their team go down 14-0 and then storm back. Love those fans.
From June on, these Phillies were among the most enjoyable, likable teams this town has seen. Through Miami. Through Atlanta.
Now, they’ll forever be remembered as huge choke artists.
Oh, well.
Go Birds.
I’ve personally known many athletes who’ve made the transition to media. I can’t name one who understands the fan base and connects better than
@Ike58Reese
. Happy birthday to a Philadelphia treasure.
One group the NFL clearly didn't consider in pushing back EAG-WAS is the 70K loyal fans who head down to the stadium every game. They'll now have to make work accommodations, battle rush hour, get home late on a work/school night. Fans get no respect.
So proud of my son, Alex, who finished 25 years of schooling and training today as a clinical pathologist. He’ll be working at UPenn Med as a prof and curriculum director.
Here's a photo of Ray Didinger watching football on TV with his son David (and dog Arlo) for the first time ever. And, yes, Ray did still chart it all on a yellow legal pad.
All I can say is I have spoken to many
@Eagles
players - on an off the record. Not one has ever disparaged Wentz as a teammate or leader. I predicted this narrative: Wentz becomes the bad guy. It’s not fair to him.
Be sad or angry or whatever emotion fits tonight. But we will come to see that the better team won the World Series and the Phillies had a great run that brought baseball back to this city.
