Is it luck that I got my first software eng job with zero experience or education, or was it that I knew a guy, and the company gave me the benefit of the doubt? #Magnolia season is officially on. Already?! In the world of #infraredphotography , the 550 nm filter is wonderful for photographing flowers. Takes a bit of practice to get used to it, but once it clicks, you might get permanently hooked. IR with false color. P.S. Hi, #bees !

Some plants and flowers fluoresce when exposed to UV light. UV light on its own is invisible. When absorbed by fluorophores in the plant’s tissues, it is reflected back out as visible light. That is, the plant itself creates all of the light you see. Milkweed seed pod, UV photo

Not every flower fluoresces under UV, but most still look unexpectedly weird. Under normal light, Serruria flowers (aka Blushing Bride) are a transparent cream and very pale pink. Under UV, they're... a bit different. This image is unedited except for dust removal.

In 2022, I spent 3 days photographing a tiny part of the Monterey shoreline. It was so beautiful I just couldn't move on to other (also great) places nearby. As John Burroughs said: "To learn something new, take the path that you took yesterday." Cypress, in false color IR.

Corydon tristis (sad clown) flower, a species close to my heart, mainly because I just made it up. This is the bloom of the bud I posted yesterday. I'll often spend 1-2 days photographing a single flower. Having more than a couple of flowers on hand can be low-key overwhelming.

In The Tibetan Yogas Of Dream And Sleep, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche says there is no difference between your dreams and reality. I went hiking in these hills a few days ago & now all my dreams are set here. When I wake early with sleep inertia, it does feel like they're blending.
