Fun fact: Duncraig was shut in 1964 as part of Beeching, but the train crews ignored this and trains called there anyway. In 1976 it reopened. As one of the drivers said: "We thought that if the English wanted to close a railway station they should pick on Euston or King's Cross"

It's currently quicker to drive from Inverness to Edinburgh, Glasgow or Dundee than it is to go via public transport. It's quicker to drive from Glasgow to Dundee or Aberdeen than it is to go by public transport too. Scotland's InterCity railways really need investment!

Gleneagles station is beautifully maintained — one of @ScotRail 's loveliest stations! It's also not a bad place to see majestic High Speed Trains at speed. Within a 40-minute period, we saw three... one even said hello!

This is absolutely TERRIBLE. No more off-peak and super off-peak fares, with affordable flexibility and refundability. 'Flex' tickets have to be booked in advance. This just creates two tiers of advances. It's a stealth fare hike. Nothing less.

it is so GRINDINGLY obvious that the highland mainline desperately needs the investment that the A9 is receiving. there is ZERO justification for the mainline between the Highlands and Lowlands to be mostly SINGLE track. doubling it is cheaper than what they're doing to the A9!

@DomTheTrainNerd We try not to engage with Wolmar (terfery) but there's a lot of evidence that BR was indeed really turning round after the mid-80s — InterCity profitability, huge rise of NSE ridership, and Regional Railways saw effective savings and the introduction of very good rolling stock
