Layer chickens project Estimations:
Kept for 90 weeks = 630 days
Start laying at 126 days(18wks)
Eggs production 420eggs/hen
Total feed used in 90 wks= 53.7kg/hen
Livability 93%(Cumulative mortality 7%)
Feed efficiency 129gm/ egg.
Layers must start laying eggs at 18 weeks (126days) at this time make sure you have changed feed from grower-mash to layer-mash and light time increased to 14hrs (12day time hrs + 2 artificial light)
Expected feed consumption in layers:
Starter (6 weeks)= 1kg/bird
Grower (12 weeks)=4.6kg/bird
Layer mash(82wks)=48kg/bird
Total feed in (100wks)=53.6kg/bird
Note:This is the minimum consumption.

Chicks placement today, it will take 148days = 21 weeks = (5months) to start laying eggs and will be kept for 65 weeks= 16 months= (1year+4months ) before culling. 🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓
Many farmers have been facing challenge on how to transform commercial layers from growing stages to laying stage: this is how to get it done 👇👇👇👇👇👇
Commercial layers will start laying at 126days of age =18wks=4.2 months
1. Ensure body weight is 1.47kg -1.57k
New flock transferred from rearing into the production house.
House dimensions 105m x 12 m
Capacity 8000 birds
800 cocks, 7200 hens
Mating ratio 1:10
Stocking density 5.5 birds/M³
75 nests @ nest = 96 hens @ nest partition 4 birds.
Litter materials wood shavings.

What you should expect from layers:
Kept for 100wks , each bird will consume at maximum (67-70kgs) of feed in 100wks.
453-467 eggs/bird in (100wks).
Mortality around 8% in(100wks).
Note:Feed consumption differ among breeds.

With automatic feeders and drinkers only 2-3 are enough to take care of these 10,000 birds , the scale of production must match with technology 🐥🐥🐥 Never stop improving.
How in House Hatching is done:
This is a technique where eggs are transferred from the incubator at 18 days to be hatched in the farm house. Houses have a controlled climate as the hatcher machines, except turning of eggs which is not needed at that time.......

During the first week of chicks placement we use supplemental feedars(trays) and drinkers to ensure maximum feed intake. Chichs weight after 1 week should be 4.5 times weight at day 1. "A good start ensures a good end"
#Farmlink
This is how full house brooding is done , instead of putting papers on the floor put more supplemental feeders so that chicks can recognize feed easily.
every nipple have a cup(litter guard) below it, its function is to avoid wet litter materials which are the source of disease in a poultry house especially in deep-litter system
In poultry production , you can get as much as twice profit if you manage to formulate your own feed.
This is because feeds cover about 70-80% of all expenses.

Technology has simplified poultry production. Only one person needed to monitor this house .
During the first week of broiler placement, we do brooding because chicks are not able to maintain their body temperature . Make sure are temperature is at 30-33°C , and the concrete temperature is 28°C. Don't forget to put a thermometer in the house.

Reduced egg production in Cold season:
The major reason is decreased ambient temperature,to control the body temperature , the hen will use more feed for heat production instead of eggs production.
Maintain hose temperature at 24°C and increase little feed allowance .

During first week of placement chicks feeding is by tray feeders for easy access to feed, afterwards, in the growing phase feeding is by automatic feeders (the suspended oval feeders ).
Did you know:
Painting the walls of your poultry house with hydrated lime will help to improve biosecurity in your farm.
It reduces bacterial loads and prevents flies problems.

Diseases you should vaccinate against , for layers
Marek's disease (at hatchery)
Newcastle disease
Infectious Bronchitis
Infectious Bursal
Fowl pox
Infectious Coryza
Fowl Typoid
Note:Vaccination schedule for layers vary according to the disease occurrence in different areas.
Difference in physical appearance better a layer and non layer.
It's better to identify non layers and remove them from the flock as they increase cost of production.
Here is a commercial layer management guide, it is breed specific. It provides basics about layers production .
