why do animal activists feel that animals should do nothing? in the wild they work hard to survive... every being has to work, it is integral to existence. racehorses, like us, have a job. one they are so very well suited to... and enjoy. all jobs... all life... has risks.
recently had a jockey ride for us who barely said a thing pre or post race - today
@JyeMcNeil
gave good pre and post race analysis and then said "thank you for the ride" no wonder he is so well respected
a special thank you to Terry Bailey who has twice called Diode his "absolute lay of the day" - both times our good thing drifted out to bloody lovely odds and both times he has bolted in :)
a heartfelt thank you to the many who have messaged us in the wake of the worst day we've had on a racetrack, and to those strangers on course who consoled me at a time when I was distraught and not thinking clearly, I didn't thank you then but I do now. RIP darling Marcia
my 10Y0 son is on the phone telling his mate how much horses love racing and explaining the reasons that the protestors at the Cup march had it all wrong
#proudmummoment
Greens think Flemington should be a floodplain, in what alternate universe are they in where such a large amount of suburban acreage would be left empty? If there was no Flemington, the area would be 1000s more houses - flooded houses
why do we have to be told SO often that we are going to lose on the punt - we don't get told sugar is bad for you every single time chocolate is advertised!
am sure I will cop a bagging for this but it's just my perspective...
1) As a child taken to the Melbourne Museum, I gazed up at the goliath that is the mighty Phar Lap. His deep chestnut coat, his size, his power and of course most of all, his story, intrigued me immediately.
@MehreenFaruqi
shall we compare how covid has spread via racing as opposed thru religious gatherings/schools/retirement homes? I'd rather be at the track.
Kudos to the world's most miserable TAB facility.. they told us off for cheering our horse home.. after we'd finished cheering. Needless to say we spent our winnings elsewhere!
a homebred city winner, it just doesn't get any better, shaking, crying, feeling really quite ill! 3 1/4 lens too - so bloody proud of you my beautiful boy Cutie aka Diode; we knew you were special from day one
I see ABC gleefully sharing a post that a pub in Tassie refuses to show The Cup this year - I can't be the only one amused by the idea of pubs making moral stands when the very point of their existence is alcohol, something that can cause so much misery?
the roar of a crowd when G1 horses settle in for a fight - first time I've heard it in 3 years, how good was it to be back for the spring?! And what can you say about Sandown - beggars believe that anyone in their right mind would want to be rid of it!
despite my vow not 2 engage with them, did end up having a "chat" with only anti I saw y'day; asked how much he spent on equine welfare, if he could prove his assertion that horses bleed when whipped, if he could point to a fetlock in a pic of a horse. No surprises re response
One of Danehill's early successes, sire of one of the greatest horses in Australian racing history and the first Gr.1 winner for one of the world's great trainers.... Desert King passed away peacefully in his sleep at Lauriston Park this week, aged 27. Buried next to Let's Elope.
am sure I am one of many who are delighted for Jin Takahashi strapping today's Caulfield Cup winner! He did an amazing job looking after our boy Douro Valley who ran 2nd in the same race - congrats Jin!
gotta give
@WarrenHuntly
a shout re the way he talks about the lesser chances in a race, an example just then - instead of bagging a 100-1 shot he wished connections good luck on having a hometrack runner on Bendigo Cup day - nice!
I've watched thousands of mares over the years, I've watched many many major races. Have never seen a mare in that sort of mood win a big race like that, she's a star
had a runner in a maiden last spring, caller said "weak maiden with a lot of deadwood in it" and was generally disparaging; form since - 1st has won again, 2nd , 4th, 5th and 6th horses have won and the 3rd horse is a G2 winner
a big thanks to
@MelbRacingClub
for Sandown Sunday being a RACE day - no loud music, no bands - neither needed. Just a good crowd enjoying horse racing! Was such an appreciated refreshing change from the nightclub that
@FlemingtonVRC
now is!
The Melbourne Cup is on again next week. Seven horses have been killed at the last nine Melbourne Cup races.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
The industry has effectively lost its social licence and more and more people are boycotting the Melbourne Cup every year.
Raw.
Emotional.
Group 1 winning jockey. The
@LNeindorf
story added another epic chapter today.
Congratulations on winning the
@sportsbetcomau
Robert Sangster Stakes, Lachie 🏆
I know many will disagree, but I think on Derby day racing. com should be ditching Adelaide (sorry South Aussies!) - spending time on BM68s, etc on such a major day (and SA can be watched elsewhere)
let's take a second to pay tribute to the wonderful Exceed And Excel... one of Aust's longest serving stallions... grandsire of the Melbourne Cup winner
I love the cycle of thoroughbred breeding - our friend Wicklow Lodge sent us this photo ten years ago of his new born Written Tycoon colt who went on to race as Winning Rupert, and now we have our own little Rupert!
"Oakbank has held its first Easter Carnival in history without jumps racing and crowd numbers were at a near-record low.
7000 punters turned out - a fraction of the near 40,000 that used to attend the Saturday meet."
I already rehome and retrain my horses, now I am contributing another 1% of prize money, it is being less and less attractive to be an owner unfortunately. Yet to see where the first 1% has been going
today was more than business (racing always is) but in terms of my pedigree analysis business I am so very proud of having the VOBIS Guineas winner CHARTRES, the SHOWDOWN third placed Volander and the very easy Randwick winner Taksu. massive congrats to everyone involved!
