DID YOU KNOW? There is a 1.5 mile oval located in Odendaalsrus, South Africa? It's called the Phakisa Freeway, and it was built in 1999 in hopes of attracting NASCAR and Indycar to the country. With International interest rising in both series, maybe not a bad idea? 👀

The Fulton-Miami Speedway. Built in 1926, the track was made of wood. The corners had 50° of banking, meaning cars had to maintain 110 mph in order to stay on the track. It was the fastest track in the world. The track was destroyed in the Great Miami Hurricane of 1926.

This photo was taken at the Calder Park Thunderdome yesterday. The track still needs a ton of work to be raceable, however, they've cleared the stands of all overgrowth and recent interest has the owners reinvesting in the property. A sign of things to come? 👀

Joey Logano went 110 laps on fuel. On a 1.33 mile track, that's 146.3 miles. Assuming the 18 gallon tank was packed full, he needed to average 8.13 miles per gallon to make it to the finish. That's absolutely insane, even with the amount of cautions.

Autódromo de Sitges-Terramar. Built in 1923, this 2 kilometer monster oval outside of Barcelona held races sporadically from the time it was built until the 50s. The turns had progressive banking, up to a mind-bending 66° at the top. Aerial from 1956.

Idea for a new qualifying format: We take every car in the field and have them run two laps as fast as they can. Then, once the entire field has run, the fastest guy is on the pole, and 2nd quick is 2nd, and down the list until the slowest guy. Then, that's where they start.

After the 1955 Le Mans disaster, the country of Switzerland banned auto racing, along with many other countries. While racing had returned to many of these nations, Switzerland officially lifted its ban on auto racing in 2022, 67 years later. Fun fact for the day 😅

This racing is so old school. This is the NASCAR I've missed for years. There doesn't have to be crashing and beating every lap for it to be a good race. NASCAR has always been an endurance, not a sprint. If this goes green the rest of the way, I'm still content 🙌🏼

So...just found out they held midget races in the 70s and 80s at National Stadium in Jamaica. It was a 1/3 mile concrete oval that I believe still exists to this day. For the life of me I cannot find any video or photos...anyone else bored? Lol

The abandoned roads of Vanport, Oregon, 1952. The city of Vanport, OR was destroyed in the great Columbia River flood of 1948. The roads sat for years before being used for racing in 1960. Eventually, everything was demolished and Portland Int'l Raceway was built in it's place.
