In October 🇷🇺RuGeographic Society expedition discovered melted remnants of Lockheed Ventura (twin-engine medium and patrol bomber of WW II). The remnants were near Vestnik bay (Kamchatka). The bomber ( #6470 ) was from VPB-131 a/squadron 🇺🇸US NAVY 1/2⬇️

🇷🇺 The head of RuMOD S.Shoigu visited «Zvezda» shipyard. We can see K-132 «Irkutsk» the head SSGN of 949AM upgraded type. It’s rumored that K-132 will get «Kalibr», «Oniks» SLCMs instead of old «Granit». The modernization started in 2013 and unclear when it come to the end. 🧐

USSR tested some screw designs and came to a conclusion that a seven blades screw was perfect for SSBN/SSNs of III gen but…USSR had no machine for metalworking those screws until 1984. So Soviet NAVY had to equip its first III gen boats 🧵1/2 ⬇️

#OTD in 1968 a keel of a lead boat K-64 (Alfa/Lira/705 type) was laid. The sub had a liquid metal cooled nuclear reactor and underwater speed ~41 knots. Unique ship for that time but USSR NAVY wasn’t ready to operate so smart subs (7 subs). All boats were decommissioned too soon.

‼️ RuNAVY is going to raise a new division at Viluchinsk naval base (Kamchatka). The newly formed division to get 2 special submarines: K-329 «Belgorod» & «Khabarovsk»+maintenance vessel. Both boats are armed with Poseidon nuclear powered torpedoes. Pic via @CovertShores
