Padres, food, music, and all things New Orleans. When Patrick Henry cried, "Give me Liberty or give me death!" he wasn't fucking around. His Highness/M'Lord.
This just in... Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhara have been spotted traveling south on the I- in a white Ford Bronco. More to come as the situation develops...
Nabil Crismatt has pitched more than 70 innings for the 2021 Padres. He deserves a great deal of credit for his sub-3.00 ERA and for his remarkable ability to fill in in times of uncertainty, but this was not part of the plan.
I started drinking at a VERY young age. I finally surrendered late last year, well into my 53rd year on this earth. Today I celebrate my first alcohol-free birthday in over four decades.
@JenniferJoyOK
They're not banned from reading anything. They just won't find it in the school library, which is also true of more than 99.99% of all novels ever written.
It was the end of the world when the Padres borrowed $50m. But the dodgers just effectively borrowed $500m, to be paid back (with interest) in the years 2034-2043.
@BNightengale
Important in that it's foolish. MLB requires photo ID to pick up tickets at will call, but does not think photo ID is necessary to vote? It seems that the legitimacy of our elections is not important to MLB shot callers.
Peter Seidler is the polar opposite of Dean Spanos. Peter is thin; Dean is fat. Peter is handsome; Dean is ugly. Peter is charming; Dean is obnoxious. Peter has huge 'nads; Dean has a microscopic weenie. Peter is a MAN; Dean is... not a man.
@KyleAGlaser
I am certainly not advocating that they promote him to the big club and give him the lion's share of the catching duties, but he might be better than Nola, Sanchez, and Sullivan right now. And if he's not, it's probably close.

Soto has 47 more plate appearances than Drury and has STILL made fewer outs. He has also reached base 52 more times. If you think that's equal output, you must not know how to count.
@TalkingFriars
The correct way for the 1B to make that play is from foul territory while flailing, eyes closed and head turned away, at the incoming throw.
Pfizer and Moderna have sold over $110 billion dollars (last I checked- it's assuredly far more now) worth of their COVID vaccines, paid for mostly via a blank check from our federal government. We've got some officials with their hands in the cookie jar.

I'm no Trump fan, but he's pretty far down on my list of public figures who belong in prison. He's an absolute choirboy compared to Gavin Newsom and Anthony Fauci.
@DannyVietti
Baez isn't even a poor man's Tatis. He's a homeless man's Tatis. And from here forward I'll ask that you refer to Tatis as The Baseball Jesus.
I'm probably not the only one here who immediately thought of the Cammy throw when Manny made that play tonight. So here it is... and it remains astonishing.
I follow some supposed Padre fans who have five-, ten-, even fifteen-thousand followers. They don't follow me back, and I'm pretty sure I knew more about Padre baseball at five years old than they do now. Am I alone in this experience? Why am I doing this?
@billjamesonline
That is EXACTLY what has been happening with the online community of Padres fans for the last month. Win 2 of 3 against the dodgers and we're World Series-bound. Get swept by the Rockies and we're the worst team of all time.
If any of Lesko, Bush, or Gonzalez pan out, Preller got fleeced. And if none of them pan out, Preller is a horseshit evaluator of amateur talent. It's one or the other.
I can't believe Hader is up in the 'pen. If I'm Niebla I just tell Garcia, "Look. The game is yours. You still have a 6-run lead. But we're releasing you if we lose."
I'm beginning to hate that Pete Davidson Taco bell commercial as much as I hate the four commercials that play between every damned inning of every damned Padre game on Bally's all season long.
Asked what attracted him to the dodgers, Yamamoto replied, "Their pitchers get to slap their wives around and have kinky violent sex with groupies. In Japan, such acts are forbidden."
Soto does the worst thing possible, rolling over to the right side, and the Padres somehow get lucky. Again, the Padres got lucky. Has that happened this year?

@wrhiv_72
I'm a 53-year-old lifelong San Diegan and Padre-obsessed baseball junkie. He is The Baseball Jesus, and I've never seen anything like him. He's a bigger, stronger Eric Davis with a way better arm and the ability to play shortstop.
My rudimentary economics education tells me that if a nation that is $32 trillion in debt can afford to send over $100 billion to Ukraine, the Padres can afford Manny Machado and Juan Soto.
A 12-2 Aztec season is closed out, and they move into their new stadium next fall. Perfect momentum for a program that I expect to be a national power going forward. Go Aztecs!!!

They're going to announce that there was a mix-up in the tests, and that it was Castillo's sample that tested positive, not Fernando's.
