Football is run as a regulated organisation. You get licensed to play under your national association. You need to register players whose "card" you own. When rangers died, they lost all those "permissions". They lost their ownership of the league. Players walked. They died.

This barely needs repeating: the season doesn’t consist of 30 games. It’s a basic, fundamental sporting principle to complete the campaign (or it was). There is no chance, absolutely none, the SPFL would have adopted this plan were the Old Firm separated by goal difference.
