I think part of why we feel Kazuki Takahashi's loss so personally is because he designed the characters and game so intentionally to represent and inspire quiet kids, artists, people who were kind but felt powerless. Reading this interview at work has helped me a lot this morning

They say the biggest barrier to entry for modern Yugioh is the fact that reading the cards doesn't tell you what a deck does, and I have never felt that more than trying to understand Branded. There are about 3 cards in the deck that actually say what they do.

This is the most important thing to understand about modern Yugioh. The game's health is dependent on how much agency both players have during both turns. Action during the opponent's turn is a design space that should be leaned into, not shied away from. Hand traps are good.

My grandpa drove ambulances unarmed on the front lines of WWII to support the fight against fascism. He did so for the same reasons he became a lifelong pro-Palestine activist after the 1948 Nakba. It would have crushed him to see what the US and Israel have done since he died.

It's funny that of the two decks I was famous for back in the day, I catch by far the most flack for Chain Beat, when the games with that deck are objectively more interactive and skillful than those with Junk Doppel, which I got the most praise for.

There is for sure debate worth having about whether or not Yugioh is the best card game out there, but I think it might actually be indisputable that Yugioh is the most imaginative TCG there is. The original lore and ideas in this game constantly blow me away.

TIL that, because Yugioh prevents fractions of LP fractions by calculating all LP changes and then rounding to the nearest 1 LP, a person at 1 LP can pay half their LP an infinite number of times.

I hear "this is a problem in every community" or "this isn't a Yugioh thing it's a TCGs thing" a lot. Consider: Even if YGO didn't have a huge vein of its own special flavor of toxicity, "this happens in every community" means it happens in ours. What are we doing about it here?

Rey is in a Discord server of local gamers, and rn a bunch of MTG players in it are speculating on why Yugioh printed Red Eyes if it's "mechanically inferior" to Blue Eyes. The best explanation they've come up with so far is "Red Eyes is the cheaper version for budget players".

Trying to get back into Yugioh rn is basically all looking at decks, being excited that I own some of the cards and most of them are pretty cheap, and then finding out that there's a mandatory engine piece that's $80 and you still lose if you don't own S:P.

@HardLegGaming @YGOMasterDuel I know it's a hot take, but I'd honestly prefer playing into Maxx "C" than Droll, at least I then have somewhat of a choice of how much I'm gonna play into it. ๐Ÿคท Having Maxx "C" in MD makes it different enough from TCG for me to still play it when TCG is pissing me off.

Imo the untold sad story is the commons. Every single common in this set is something I saw a million of in the trash at OTSes this year. They might as well be extra packaging. Makes these look so bad. If this product is for retail, why not just pump the commons with anime bulk
