Back in March we moved our small herd of rare breed Berkshire pigs across a 154 acre building site, with some help from staff, volunteers and contractors! The girls have been relocated to their new home near the historic lake and are making light work of clearing the ground.

This week saw the first plants go into the Outer Walled Garden with 60 metres of UK-grown, beech instant hedging planted by staff and volunteers. This is just the first part of the total 600 metres planned!

Local contractor @MaysandLtd started work on the Weston Walled Garden @RHSBridgewater in June 18, restoring over 1.4kms of walls. 100K original bricks have been removed, 80K individually cleaned by hand & re-used. 40% of the total wall space has been repointed. @GarfieldWFdn

Growing right in the path of our new access road, the future wasn't looking good for this 7m Acer davidii. Until our Arb team decided to dig it up, transport it across site & plant it in what will be our new Chinese Streamside Garden! Here they are getting it into it's new home.

The team planted 7 lovely Morus alba – white Mulberry trees – last week. The umbrella-shaped #trees make a beautiful focal point in the #Community Grow garden & will provide shade over the communal seating area, where you can take a well-earned break 1/7

Built in 1840-45 for the 1st Earl of Ellesmere and located at the NE end of the @RHSBridgewater site, Worsley New Hall commanded a stunning view. The house stood for just over 100 years. Demolished and sold for scrap in the 1940s, only its footprint now remains. @Archaeology_UoS

Jute matting makes an excellent weed suppressant. Here we're using it on the pumpkin patch to keep moisture and warmth in the soil and weeds out. Fingers crossed! #summergardendays

An exciting plant delivery arrived today. The plants for the Paradise Garden glasshouses are here. They include tender plants for the Mediterranean glasshouse & bulbs and fruit trees for the fruit glasshouse. Also pineapples! 🍍🍍

6 yew pyramids and 150m of locally grown yew hedging for the Orchard have arrived on site! Our volunteers have been hard at work digging the trenches for 143 metres of yew hedging and will also heel in the hedging.
