Day 1 of trialling the Army’s new base layer system.
Looking forward to seeing how this performs in the field, but based on the first few minutes it should be pretty good. Def better than polypro.
Merino wool is so good🐑
(The mesh is just one of several options in the system)
Light forces have a specific role on the battlefield, one that complements mechanized & heavy forces. We don’t need to reimagine how we move them - we need to come to terms with their employment. They aren’t a cost-saving option - they’re a vital part of a balanced force. 🧵
Attended the

ceremony this morning in Wilton with my family. It was great that we were able to attend together, although our 2 year old didn’t last for the whole thing (luckily there was a park nearby).

Glad to be home after a busy couple of weeks in the Middle East & Africa.
Very proud of the Q Coy & 3RCR soldiers that rapidly deployed on

& executed all assigned tasks. Not many teams would have been able to deploy so quickly into such a complex Op

By the time my daughter was 3 years old, she was on her third posting and I had deployed twice in her lifetime.

I am proud that they have decided to let me wear it once again, and am looking forward to all the challenges that will come with it.
This.
Everyone is entitled to spend Remembrance Day in a way that makes sense to them.
I actually preferred the COVID times for this because I could go for a long ruck on my own. I felt this was a better way for me to reflect.
Ignore those who clutch pearls - there are no rigid rules of how to mark Remembrance Day, only a broad intent:
-Honour the dead
-Reflect on the country & values protected by their sacrifice
-Commit to not repeating the mistakes of the past
-Don't make it about yourself.
Really glad that

2023 is nearing its end.
What accomplishment are you most proud of this year?
I had a really busy year, but I think what made me most proud was leading Q Coy in response to crisis in Africa & demonstrating that conventional army units can be agile & responsive when it matters.
2023 is almost over. What accomplishment are you proudest of?
I got to help develop and create the next generation of Joint EOD service members. In 16 years, it’s probably the most rewarding thing I’ve done. This next generation is smarter than I ever was. The kids are alright

in 1900, the battle ended late in the morning. The 1,000 Canadian soldiers, all volunteers, played an important role in what was the first major British victory of the South African War. 1/4
Conducted the initial recce for some upcoming training we have planned. It was great to get out in the woods for a day.
Looking forward to the detailed recces over the next couple of weeks, and then actually putting the company through it!
Had a mess dinner last night with the officers of 1, 2 & 3 RCR + many other Royals that are extra-regimentally employed. It was a great opportunity to catch up, cross talk, and meet new members of the regiment.
@M_A_Blanchette
& I even remembered to get a pic together this time!
Spent the morning getting ready to showcase some of our capabilities to CAF senior leaders. Rehearsals, rehearsals, rehearsals.
Always great to get out with our people and see them in action 🇨🇦💪
Just put the kids to bed on what is officially my last day of PATA 😢 I will be back on the regular payroll tomorrow and working on Monday.
I would recommend everyone take advantage of MATA/PATA, if they are able, despite whatever stigma may be attached to it. Totally worth it!!
Spent a great day getting after it in the field. Started the day by para inserting a platoon and went from there.
Anytime you get to spend doing cool stuff with your friends is a good time!

If someone brings you a coffee be happy and polite about it. If you want it a certain way, make it yourself.
A member of my team brought me a coffee unexpectedly the other day, and I thanked them and took it into my office. I don’t even drink coffee!
Being on exchange with our closest ally is an awesome opportunity. I’m so glad that we have these positions at a variety of levels.

Check out his story:
These police officers had a bias to action, went into harms way & got the hard stuff done when it was required of them.
The politics surrounding police, gun laws, etc aside, I’m glad there are people out there that can get it done when we need them to.

I was unable to attend our House Hunting Trip a couple of weeks ago (as is tradition - I haven’t been present for a HHT since 2013 due to deployments, trg, etc).

Let my hair grow long since the updated dress regs, but today decided it was time for a change & cut it shorter. I’m still glad we have more inclusive policies. Even though I’m back to short hair, it’s great to have the option! It was a fun experience that I may revisit someday.

Having to track annual training in a random unit excel spreadsheet, despite having institution wide software specifically designed to do it that should be used.
The risks drones pose to the Canadian Army are clear, from both state and non-state actors.
Although we often discuss counter drone warfare generally, we need to seriously figure this out & make some significant changes to tactics/equipment to adapt to drone threats.
1/9 I have spent the last decade researching the global spread of drones to terrorists & criminal gangs. Here's why today's tragic lethal drone strikes on US troops (killing 3 & injuring at least 34) has been a long time coming & will likely happen again
Day 1 of teaching AOC students 😬
Excited, nervous, &ready to engage in some awesome discussions about how to think, plan & fight. Hoping I can channel all the amazing instructors & mentors I’ve had over the years (CACSC legend & my DS

especially).
Here we go!!!
Just had a ridiculously good send off from 3 RCR.
Had a few beers with some of my closest mentors, & shared some hugs, handshakes, & took photos with one another.
It was great to reminisce about all the great times we’ve had over the years.

Despite the warm temperatures, there was still a bunch of ice and snow in the training area this past week. It made one of our platoon’s navigation exercise extra challenging 🥶

Had a really good lunch with my 6 year old today!
Missing bedtimes during the past couple and next couple of weeks due to the 0800-2000 schedule of the AOC Brigade Exercises has been challenging.

Great news for anyone who has been struggling to access Monitor Mass, PaCE, submit FNs, etc
The My RCN App seems to work for everyone in the CAF not just those in the RCN
So, if you are in an org that has a high soldier to DWAN computer ratio. This could ease the burden of PaCE
Great to see one of the Lieutenants in our company promoted to Captain today. He just finished an advanced course and it was awesome to be able to recognize his increased responsibility within the unit.

The stand-up of the CAF Cyber Command today is a significant step in ensuring Canada is ready for a truly pan-domain environment. As modern conflicts stretch across land, air, sea, space, and cyber, integrating these domains is crucial for mission success.

Interesting to reflect on how different the world is now compared to 10 years ago.
