In late 2022, we transported an EMU back to the 1980s, making way for the filming of on-train and on-station scenes for Boy Swallows Universe - the iconic Trent Dalton novel based in Brisbane. We were ecstatic to play a role in bringing it to life! 🚆
Have you seen it yet?

and the amazing work they do, we bought 20 books from Brisbane Bookfest and hid them on our trains this morning 📚 If you found a book give us a shout, and if you’re heading to Bookfest make sure to plan your journey there with

We're not crying, you're crying!😢On Sunday we said our final farewell to the EMU01. This workhorse has been transporting commuters around SEQ since 1979, clocking up around 12,000,000 kilometres in its long career🚊A massive thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday!
This week our staff reported some miscon-duck-t in the rail corridor at Robina, when a family of ducks flew the nest & were seen waddling along the tracks for a sneak beak. Without feather ado, our staff were able to organise a rescue crew to remove the flock from the quacks 🦆
On this day in 1979 Queensland Rail ran its first electrified passenger service from Ferny Grove to Darra. Fast forward 40 years, the final trains in the New Generation Rollingstock fleet are getting ready to hit the Queensland Rail network at the Wulkuraka Maintenance Centre!
Don’t forget, starting today (18 Nov) all your Monday trips are on us for the next four weeks. Simply walk through the open fare gates and we’ll cover your fare on these dates!
This morning, a truck hit a rail bridge in Corinda causing significant structural damage and resulted in significant delays for our customers.
Queensland Rail is pleading with drivers to know their height, plan their route and obey the road signs - for everyone's safety. 🙏
While we discourage taking your bicycle on our trains during peak times, we DEFINITELY discourage bringing your lawn mower no matter what time of day! What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen on a train?

After four decades in service, it’s time to farewell the ‘EMU01’. 🚉 Join us for its farewell tour of special services across the network from 9-11 August & a community event & re-enactment this Sunday of its first passenger journey in 1979. For more info👉

Following 12-weeks of repairs, the full length of the 1,000km Mount Isa line reopened to the first freight services today.
Thanks to our employees and contractors who have worked tirelessly to to restore this vital connection for North West QLD.
For your safety and to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we recommend considering using your elbow to bump the train door button, rather than using your hand.
Queenslanders have the chance to take a ride into rail history. It's 40 years since the first electric service in Brisbane, and tomorrow will be the last day for that original train.

The safety of our customers and staff is our number one priority. In response to COVID-19, we’re ramping up our strict cleaning measures at our stations and onboard our trains. You can find more information here:
Recently, we discovered a thriving colony of native stingless bees making their home in our electricity boxes.
We teamed up with local experts Brisbane Native Bees to carefully relocate these precious pollinators to a safer environment.
The Mount Isa line will re-open Mon 29 April, restoring one of Qld’s most important freight routes.
More than 400 staff and contractors worked 160,000 hours over the past 10 weeks to repair the line, following unprecedented flooding in the region.
Take a look at how our network map has changed! Pictured left is the network map from 1978-1982 and on the right we have our current one. What differences can you spot? 🔍

This weekend, around 200 of our employees braved the heat to complete significant maintenance & renewal works. Thanks to our customers for your patience as these important works are carried out to keep our network safe & reliable.
Our scheduled maintenance closure planned for this weekend (4-5 Apr) will no longer go ahead to allow 6 extra freight trains to travel between Brisbane, Townsville & Cairns delivering much-needed groceries, household goods & manufacturing materials. SEQ trains will run as normal.
Did you see the rainbow lights at Central Station today?
The lights were changed in support of IDAHOBIT - the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. We want everyone to know they have the right to be their true self in our community. 🏳️🌈
1 ❤️= 1 pat for this good doggo (when she's off duty, of course). 🐶 If you haven’t met Vesna she is a regular at the Rail Management Centre. Today is International Guide Dog Day & as a proud partner of

we’re acknowledging the incredible Guide Dogs in Queensland.
🚂 The first train successfully travelled the newly re-constructed Mount Isa line between Cloncurry and Townsville ahead of the line’s re-opening on Monday 29 April 🚂
Following unprecedented flooding in the region, more than 200 sites across 300km of track required repair.
A moment of appreciation for this stunning piece of art by Pete Lambie! 🖌
Pete has created some fantastic pieces for us over the years - but we had to show off this recent beauty of the tilt train 'mooving' through the countryside.

On behalf of Queensland Rail and the transport industry in our state, we express our deepest sympathies to all those affected by the devastating train tragedy in Greece.
During this awful time, we also send our condolences to our colleagues in the Greek rail industry.
Good morning to everyone… except those who don’t vacate their seats for people in need 😉
Thank you to all customers who give up their seats for those in need including seniors, people with disabilities and pregnant women, like this mum-to-be 👏

In 1865, the ‘Faugh-a-Ballagh’ chugged its way into history books when it became the first loco to move under its own steam, travelling on a test run from North Ipswich to Wide Gully with two carriages.

To help keep customers safe, we’re rolling out hundreds of hand sanitiser dispensers across all our SEQ stations 🧼This is on top of our additional cleaning measures we’ve been running since March. Thank you for your support to help us limit the transmission of COVID-19👏
Following disruptions as result of the severe weather events across the South East Queensland network, services will be resuming tomorrow, 3 March. Services will be resuming on a Saturday frequency timetable. See link below for more information.
Ahead of Father’s Day on Sunday, we caught up with Queensland Rail drivers and father-son duo, Dean and Laurie Jones, to hear how Dean followed in his father’s footsteps to become a train driver. 🚉
We hope Laurie and all the other Dads out there have a great Father’s Day!
We're urging motorists of trucks and other over-height vehicles to please pay attention, know your vehicle's height and load, and stay clear of rail bridges which are too low for you. 🚚
Dopey drivers are slamming into South-East rail bridges at an alarming rate with dramatic vision showing how bad the problem is, and Queensland Rail is now targeting one type of driver, in particular.

Meet Kimberly, a Train Guard & her mum Karen, a Station Master at Zillmere. The pair have worked together at Queensland Rail for the past four years. "I’m so lucky to have such an inspiring woman to look up to," Kimberly said. Happy Mother's Day!💕
Take a look at the construction of Mayne Yard in the early 1900’s. Prior to this, the locomotives were stabled at the Roma Street depot. In 1927 the locomotives were relocated from Roma Street to Mayne Yard and in 1928 the carriage shed opened.

50 years ago, Queensland’s steam train era came to an end! On 21 December 1969, over 2,000 excited commuters made the journey aboard the last timetabled steam train service, starting at Mackay Railway station, travelling through to Farleigh, Mackay Harbour & return.
🚂 All aboard the steam train! On the Ekka show holiday tomorrow (Wednesday 14 August) we’re operating a heritage steam train from Roma Street station to Exhibition station. Please note, you'll need a valid Ekka entry ticket to travel. More info:

We're helping to spread the important message to ‘Trust the Signs, Trust your Gut & Ask R U OK?’ These simple words could start a conversation that changes the life of a workmate, friend or family member.
Last year, we recorded 7 collisions with trains, 117 collisions with boom gates & more than 200 close calls at Queensland Rail level crossings. With our trains weighing up to 260 tonnes & travelling up to 140 km/ph, they can’t swerve and they can take a long time to stop.
Final works have wrapped up on Milton station’s mini facelift! The subway to Milton Road has now re-opened, sporting new wall and floor coverings, new lights, CCTV & improved stairs to the platforms. Say hi to the friendly station staff next time you’re passing through! 😀👋
From 1am tomorrow (Saturday 18 Dec) masks will be mandatory on public transport. If you’re planning on travelling with us, please remember to stay home if you’re feeling unwell, wear a mask and practise good personal hygiene.
