@VKyriazakos I had my contract and incentives and not complaining about that. But in Unity we worked for, and achieved, a vision beyond that. We truly "democratized game development". Being part of it for so many years, my expectations were to have a conversation and part ways reasonably.

M64, the Black Eye Galaxy, is a small galaxy 17 million light years away. The origin of the name is from the dust lanes in the center, which are rotating opposite to the galaxy, so it might be from a previous merger. I had 10 hours of exposure in LRGB on this one.

SW engineers: I want to be agile and ship 15 times a day. Fail fast and fix fast. NASA engineer: I spent 8 years working on this one thing, we shipped it to space, waited half a year to turn it on and it worked first time. Deployment matters.

First picture from my new setup. I chose M81 because it was convenient in the sky. 4.8 hours of exposure and 1 million hours getting back into processing it. I'm pretty happy with this as the first shot. Half the size of the Milky Way and 11M ly away, this is an easy target.

Today marks 8 years at Unity for me. It's been a crazy ride. I feel like I have had 5-10 different jobs along the way. Start with a team of 6 QA, now we are well over 200 across QA, docs, sustained engineering and release management. I also helped out with support a few years.

Tidbit from my unity career: I did at times implement some tough measures on quality. Some people thought I was Gollum. Others were cheering me on. Most important for me was that I did what I believed was best for the product and our users.

Last weekend I decided to dig into data about covid, because I had a feeling something wasn’t making sense. It didn’t. Lockdown isn’t working the way we assume. 1.23 is the factor of infections before lockdown. 0.97 is the factor after. This thread is about what I found.

I'm shocked. I just ate my first Beyond Meat burger. Gluten free bread, blue cheese, tomatoes and lettuce and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. 3 times more expensive than meat, but incredibly good. Truly shocked!

Holy cow. I'm processing an image of a galaxy cluster 300 million light years away and find out I picked up the light from a quasar 12.1 billion light years away. This is the farthest I have peaked into the universe, whose age is 13.8 billion years old. #astronomy #universe

Since my mount decided to die, I decided to process my 11 hours of data on the Western Veil nebula. This is a remnant of a supernova that exploded 3-6.000 years ago, 1500 light years from us. This one is shot in narrowband Hydrogen-alpha and Oxygen-3, and colors are synthetic.
