I'm delighted to have had the chance to sit down with Tom Sarrouf of

, to have a chat about King Arthur and the Arthurian mythos. Check out the ISI podcast here:
I have a short Christmas story, as Advent approaches:
When I was six or seven years old, my parents bought a house. We had been relatively poor, moving from place to place every year: my father was a floor-layer and my mother had been an Avon lady. But then my mother got a
Friends, I have had no income since 14 September and we have had to borrow money from family members in order to afford groceries and pay our mortgage. This canโt go on much longer.
No charity is desired, except for your prayers. For those, you have our thanks. ๐๐ป
My goodness!
I am overwhelmed by how this has resonated with people from all the world over. Thank you all ever so much for your kind words, sentiments, and tidings of the season, and may God bless you all!
Friends, my family needs your prayers.
I have been chasing leads and doing my best to find a position for a year now without success. We are really up against it. The possibility that we will lose our house is a constant source of all-consuming anxiety; our savings is almost
No more philosophy, theology, French, or German. But good newsโall the administrative roles are safe! It might even be possible to hire some more administrators! Phew!

I should be very grateful if, in your charity, you might please remember my father, Phillip, in your prayers. He died on 1 May, three years ago. I miss him ever so much.
Thank you. ๐๐ป
I have a cardiac MRI this morning. It has been about six months since the last one, which confirmed all sorts of unhappy things.
I am praying for a much better result this time!
I hope that you will join with me in praying for the innocent victims of war, and especially for the children brutalised by war.
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Based on what I've been able to piece together he made a bunch of actual Nazis + Black Nationalists angry when he made fun of some Nazi thing earlier, and they ganged up on him and started calling him Jewish (wtf?!) and then doxxed him.
I should be grateful if, in your charity, you would pray for my aunt, gravely ill with cancer, and my brother-in-law, seriously ill with kidney failure, both of whom are in hospital down at U of MI. Thank you, and may God bless you.

Very positive news today: the roofing company sent a man out who admitted that it hadn't been done correctly, and that they will fix everything under warranty at no cost. Thanks be to God!
Terrible news from the inspector in re. the roof and crawlspace today. Moisture, mold, etc. Insurance probably won't cover the fortune it will cost to fix, and we haven't got a bean. One entertains fantasies of fleeing into the woods to live atop a tree.
I think this is one of the more important things that I have writtenโsome reflections On Advancing a Conservative Aesthetics, which have grown out of my experiences over the past year:
An impromptu family portrait at the wedding, taken in front of the backdrop they had set up. Absolutely impossible getting the boys to remain still even for a moment, but it still came out alright (if a bit silly).
As I turn to the task of cleaning out my library, the time has come for me to accept that my teaching career is almost certainly at an end.
I'm profoundly grateful to have met so many truly brilliant and incredibly gracious peopleโa good number of whom I now consider some of my

I am pleased to share that my article, "Guilt, Shame, and Truth in Malory's Le Morte Darthur", has been accepted for publication in the next volume of Encomia.
A world without people would not be some kind of great โecological achievementโ: it would be completely meaningless, because only *people* value such things (and only some people, at that), and they wouldnโt exist.
Ahead of Saturday's Christmas party, my wife found a dining room table set at the local thrift store. So we have finally replaced the table with the broken leg that was left by the previous homeowner!
Hamlet is one of those great works that contains multitudes. I have read it and seen it more times than I can count, and yet there is always something new, something fascinating. It is a country both familiar and perpetually undiscovered.
As a new Assistant Editor, I have one goal for the magazine, one lofty target at which to aim: the replacement of the word 'fall' (from the poetic clichรฉ 'the fall of the leaf') with the word 'autumn'. I have a year to make my case. Dream big!
In today's post, this marvelous issue of

Day-Lewis did a remarkable job but it is unlikely that anyone will probably ever best Paul Giamatti as John Adams. An absolute tour de force performance. Impossibly good.
The news I feared is here. I have a big cancerous tumor. They donโt know if they can operate or even shrink. So I guess my next appointment will determine what my future is. I am at peace and at the same time scared. I pray for all who hear the cancer news for first time. Not fun
Thank you all ever so much for your extraordinarily kind replies, and especially for your prayers.
My father died on the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. His whole life, he worked hardโharder than anyone I've ever known, and right to the end, too.
I should be very grateful if, in your charity, you might please remember my father, Phillip, in your prayers. He died on 1 May, three years ago. I miss him ever so much.
Thank you. ๐๐ป
Sometimes, I think, โWell, maybe I should just get a J.D. as well.โ
But then I look around the library at the books, the organ, and the piano. I look out the window at the trees and the birds, and I sip my tea, and I laugh and laugh and laugh.
My step-father is in the hospital ICU with some heart-related issues. If, in charity, you would remember him in your prayers, my family would be very grateful. Thank you. ๐๐ป
My "Coming soon!" update:
A scholarly article in Encomia;
Essays in Fare Forward, The American Conservative, and The European Conservative, with one in progress for Athwart;
And a book chapter in a university press volume on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight!
Born on this date, Conrad Aiken (5 August 1889 โ 17 August 1973).
When Aiken was 11 years old, his father murdered his mother and then committed suicide. Moments later, Aiken entered the room and discovered what had happened. Years later, he wrote this poem.
Things are moving again, and there is more progress today!
We are hoping that, by the end of the year, this period of impecunity will be behind us, although it will take us a while to rebuild our safety net.
Thank you all for your continued prayers!
There should be no delayโnot even the '7 second industry standard' delayโfor a Presidential debate. If one of the candidates utters a profanity, or lies, or falls over, or glitches out, it should be able to be seen and discussed by absolutely every single voter.
@OwlixB
That's very kind, and I'm genuinely touched by your generosity! But honestly, just prayersโif it can move mountains, it can do this one thing for which we have all been praying for months.
A very kind fellow who plays in a band has generously given his late fatherโs organ to my family. It is in exceptional condition and will be delivered on Wednesday. May God bless him abundantly for his extraordinary generosity!
The boys are beside themselves with excitement!
@GrayConnolly
โItโs a gross failure of design that my very minority view canโt be imposed upon the nationโs founding document!โ
These people are really telling on themselves, especially given all their jaw about โattacks on democracyโ.
I should be grateful if, in your charity, you might pray for the repose of my aunt Vicki, whose funeral was today, and for the comfort of her family. Thank you, and may God bless you. ๐๐ป
