If you want to kill people, the most effective way to do this in the modern era (since gun laws and annoying people like the Police will make things awkward) is to persuade people to stop (or never start) a statin. Over the long term, 1 in 10 will be killed by that choice.

At last some solid science. Definite permanent heart damage, causing the heart to turn into molecular acid and drill through the chest (as horribly foreshadowed in Alien) on 137% of patients. Even higher if actually exposed to the virus, rather than only worrying about it.

My aunt Rosie told me that 87% of athletes developed myocarditis, far higher than the 15-33% figures bandied around by some #COVID denialists. This virus is so bad that some who hadn't been exposed to the virus, were among the ones with the worst symptoms.

The problem with not retracting an erroneous study, is that this keeps happening. Nicole, I don't blame you for not realising that the numbers are almost all wrong. Because @JAMACardio has let half a million people download it without telling them what it already knows.

German study in JAMACardiology found 60% of 100 adult patients who recovered from COVID19 had findings of ongoing myocardial ❤️ inflammation similar to what some young adult athletes have reported. Such long-term complications are factors in whether college athletics will resume.

The reason why I recommend the general public not to worry about such things is that there is nothing useful you can do about the worry, other than just worry. The whole point of having scientists to do science and doctors to explain it to you, is so that it is done well.

Suppose, Alice and Bob, two ORBITA HQ PhD students, ask to be put on the same project, so they can spend more time with each other, within the bounds of social distancing rules (and decorum).

Thank you to an anonymous person, for looking after her neighbour kindly. Negative thanks for sending me a duff story. So overall, net neutral. 8-) (Details in thread that follows)

The mistake is for people who cannot distinguish between a scientific hypothesis and a scientific conclusion, to write - in magazines or on Twitter - that people's hearts are dissolving into mush. It's frankly embarrassing for a species that has sent people to the moon.

In a world where people seriously believe in ghosts, astrology, alien abduction, 9-11 conspiracy, flat earth, faked moon landings, creationism, etc, there are risks to encouraging formation of opinions, without prior formation of skills to form those opinions wisely.

Who is your cardiologist? How did he or she conclude you have developed heart failure from Covid-19? Which medical community? People who went to med school and passed the exams? Or people who tweet about health? What makes you think 1 million people have died of heart damage?

I actually cannot believe that this man has been to school, never mind got elected president. It shows you how irredeemably thick one can be, and yet be successful. There's hope for us all!

Scariest thing in the world is not Covid. It is waking up and hearing that you are in an argument with Steve Nissen, the fearsome science monster of Cleveland Clinic. Apparently Medscape's Patrice Wendling is doing an article shortly. Some rumour of a lawsuit also.

Someone comes to you with "data" about an exciting new treatment? Check whether it is an RCT. If it isn't, punch them in the face. Brutally (but humanely).
