Husband. Homeschool Dad. "A once promising public school educator (who) has now joined the dark side." Helping you find other education options for your kids.
Homework is a tyrannical burden on your family.
This is especially true for elementary-aged kids.
It does little to nothing to improve academics.
And it is taking your valuable family time.

The Wright brothers — with a home library, no college degrees, and a bike shop — kicked off the age of flight.
Their main competitor a professor of mathematics with grants from the U.S. government and the Smithsonian, crashed into the Potomac.
Government doesn't help discovery.
Remember:
Private schools are accountable.
They are accountable to the parents. If the parents are unhappy with the teaching, they leave and thus ends the private school.
Does a bureaucrat in DC know what your son or daughter needs?
Of course not.
So why does ending the Dept of Ed get so much hate?
It shouldn’t.
Here are 5 reasons to End Fed Ed. 🧵
Public schools don’t understand children.
Their methods go against child development.
They put adult needs 1st.
Here are 4 things that go against child nature. 🧵
An hour of homework for a first grader is tyranny.
A 6 or 7 year old should be allowed to go play after sitting for hours.
Do you think this child is learning?
Public schools are crushing your child’s curiosity.
Teachers SAY they want kids to ask questions,
but here’s the truth:
They don’t.
4 Ways Schools are Killing Curiosity.
😱 Your kids' summer boredom is coming.
That's a good thing...if you don't solve it for them.
But if you let them be bored...
You let them learn the lesson of a lifetime.
Here are 5 benefits of boredom. 🧵
Teachers aren't stuck in public schools. I'm spending the evening in a room full of microschool founders, many of them former public school teachers. You can do this!

I've realized that public schools are not broken.
They are doing exactly what they were designed to do.
• Teach to the middle
• Ignore high achievers
• Leave struggling students behind &
• Make everyone the same
Meaningful change is impossible in that system.
Remember:
Private schools are accountable.
They are accountable to the parents. If the parents are unhappy with the teaching, they leave and thus ends the private school.
Private schools are accountable.

"Accountability comes via school boards & Texas Education Agency...Since private schools are not accountable to TEA, there is no oversight. A failing private school can continue to fail kids year after year without anyone ever even knowing it — with no risk of closure"

BREAKING: Utah Senate Education Committee voted to legalize microschools.
These innovative schools are one step closer to having a unneccessary regulations removed.
When you look into the eyes of your children and you see their greatness and potential, ask yourself, “Is my child getting an education to match who they are born to become?”
If not, you have options available to you.
I just spoke with one of the capital workers here on staff about today. He told me that there were more people here today than he remembers seeing in the last 20 years of working at the capitol. Utah is ready for education choice.

Why does life in the US begin with a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 13 years K-12?
We lock up adults because of their crimes. We lock up kids because they turned 5.
@JeremyTate41
I love that testing was not what woke them up to a love of learning, but actual learning.
Testing has it's place, but we place way too much emphasis on it.

BREAKING: Utah Senate just passed a bill legalizing microschools in across the state.
This bill allows microschools to establish in local neighborhoods.
It now will move to a third reading before going to the house.
"School" will not look the same in 10 years.
Education is on the cusp of a huge market disruption.
Government policies, technology, new school options, and parent preferences are all changing.
Here are 5 indicators of the coming education disruption.
If you want to make meaningful changes in education
• Give parents a choice
• Trust them to decide
• Make it as easy as possible for them
I'll keep working to make that a reality for all parents.
Principals are middle managers.
They have very little control over the policies that govern schools.
Every year new policies and plans are added to schools.
The old ones never go away.
I was more micromanaged as a principal than in the Marine Corps.
Now I am making the difference I always wanted to make.
Since joining

,
• we passed the Utah Fits All Scholarship &
• made it easier to start a microschool.
We continue our work to empower parental choice in education.
This is education.
My daughter wanted to know how to change a tire just in case she needed it. We spent an hour jacking up the car, taking off the tire and putting it back on. She did it all herself and asked questions when she had them.
This is a microschool for high schoolers in Moab, Ut (Rural Utah).
It is designed for students who are gifted and have a learning disability.
They only have 4 classes a semester, with a two hour lunch each day.
Each student is excelling.
I made another mistake that first year.
I joined the teacher’s union.
By the end of my 1st month, I realized my mistake.
None of my values lined up with the union.
No. They are not "all our children." My children are mine and the neighbor kids are theirs. They never belong to the teachers. The teachers are there to teach, not become the parents.

The Utah Legislature just voted to increase the funding for the Utah Fits All Scholarship. This doubles the number of available scholarships.

• Parent involvement
• Field trips
I was in turmoil.

The most powerful tool in a negotiation is the power to walk away.
Compulsory education laws make it impossible for parents to use this tool when negotiating for a better education for their child.
Vouchers will mean larger class sizes, lower teacher pay, and worse outcomes for the millions of Texas children who attend Texas public schools.
Extracurriculars, like football, will get cut.
Teachers will be laid off.
Schools will be closed.
Stop voucher scams.

I don’t blame the people I worked with in public schools.
They think they are helping kids reach their potential.
But since leaving public schools
My eyes have been opened to the amazing opportunities that are out there.

I met with a couple public school teachers last night. They feel stuck and would love other options for their careers.
Education choice movements provide these caring teachers with options.
"We have school choice now" = unless you can afford private, you will take your public school and like it, even if it is failing you.

We have school choice now.
If you don’t like public schools, choose another option.
Most children can’t. The public school is their only opportunity.
In America, we are committed to educate them.
Our way of life depends on it.

This law passed a year and a half ago.
If this lawsuit was so important, why did they wait until a month before parents can use the funds to file?
Because it is a ploy to disrupt the program.
@rebelEducator
COVID had us begin, but the joy my wife felt teaching our kids made us stick with it.
Also, we started seeing our kids changing in public school (especially middle school). We wanted something different for them.

Most important info in this article comes from parents using the programs.
One is choosing a school that is aligned with their values.
The other chose a school that meets her child's unique needs.
This is the power of education choice programs. Education should fit all kids.
@DeAngelisCorey
Administrative bloat can explain some of the increase, but the education publishers (Pearson, Houghton/Mifflin, etc) know schools are a cash cow and overcharge for their subpar products.
Have you heard of deschooling?
Deschooling = unlearning the bad habits you picked up in traditional schools.
It is necessary if you want your child to be a leader.
To become a leader, here are 4 habits your child (and you) will have to unlearn.
I may be rubbing off on my daughter. This gem is from a recent essay she wrote for school.
I may have to start referring to ed choice policies in terms of their education pants.

Judi Dench was on Graham Norton last night to push her new book about her life and work with Shakespeare. After making the point we quote Shakespeare daily without knowing it, this happened:
"Utah Republicans have a veto-proof majority in the state legislature.
They should drag this bill across the finish line with or without Cox.
If he refuses to get on board, Utah Republicans should reevaluate his future as governor."
During my 1st year, I wanted students to explore their interests.
But I got pushback.
Many of my colleagues thought I wasn't doing my job.
I, unfortunately, caved to the pressure and tried to be like the veteran teachers around me.
Why would providing parents with options defund public schools? If parents are looking for the best option in education, wouldn’t they choose public schools if they are the best?
School aren't broken. They are doing what they are designed to do.
-Teach to the average.
-Provide some support to struggling students.
-Ignore students who excel.
-Marginalize rule-breakers.
They standardize children instead of treat them as individuals.
