ST status holds no special attraction for me nor am I keen to oppose the demand, but I can't understand this paranoia Meiteis will land grab if they become ST. Even now can one ST, say Maram, simply go and set up a village in Ukhrul or Chandel. So how is it different for Meiteis.

Sr. journalist, Subir Bhaumik wrote this monograph "Insurgencies in India's NE: Conflict, Co-option & Change" commissioned by East West Centre in July 2007. His premonition of the present uneasy relationship between Meiteis, Kukis and AR, is evident. See highlights.

It turns out, as suspected, the EGI fact finding team to Manipur was Army invited/funded. The EGI should have said this instead of claiming it was a crowd funded independent mission.

Concentration of troops in Manipur with no action to arrest the problem could be a gameplan to draw Meitei insurgents from their Myanmar camps into the conflict so they can be cornered to enter negotiations like Nagas & Kukis.

Didn't our CM say Amit Shah told him, he (CM) should rein in the valley (Meira Paibis) and he would ensure hills return to normalcy. Shouldn't Shah then be made answerable for the two murdered kids.

AFSPA should be removed totally, provided all are ready for state forces in equal strength. You cannot say no AFSPA and no state forces as well. In the valley, police are a potent force so AFSPA could be dispensed. If deemed needed anytime, it needs very little to bring it back.

Crisis opens your eyes to people who you never expected would be genuinely concerned about your troubles, but quite hurtfully and surprisingly you also get to sense so many others who slyly wish you ill.

Let those in this fight remember we are a tiny spec on the spectrum of concern -- national as well as international -- remembered momentarily for troubles, then forgotten to fight and suffer alone. Only those in this mess can wake up and set things right, not anybody else.

Maybe somebody should file a PIL to have the EGI reveal who are in the "crowd" which funded their Manipur mission.

",,,whether or not to impose president’s rule or whether or not to replace the chief minister, N. Biren Singh, have come to be interpreted as victory or defeat for one or the other party and no longer as a means to usher in normalcy.

EGI should have concentrated on bad reporting cases only, and not jumped their brief to pretend they know everything about the inner dynamics of the Manipur conflict.

The case of the two murdered children had been handed over to the CBI in July itself because of its sensitivity, just as the one of naked parade was. The emergence of the photos of the murder merely made the matter more urgent. So what's all the fuss about.

The raw malevolence of mob violence deserves severe penalty, but this is nothing compared the nihilistic darkness of cold blooded execution. This is simply beyond even the very notion of human morality. Luwangbi's haunting eyes said this eloquently.

We were taught the media's credo is to speak truth to power, not become PR agents, directly or indirectly, for power or any of its institutions.

One way of controlling poppy menace is to legalise it. Profit margin will drop for it will no longer be for the illegal narcotics business but for pharma industry. The problem is, small farmers who cannot sustain on official rates will drop out, and big pharmas will take over.

Over sensitivity of other's opinions is a sign of insecurity and lack of self esteem. Slanders should be challenged (though not by intimidation) but certainly not opinions.

It is also ironic to plead for deployment of Army but complain against AFSPA which legally enables Army to do civil duty.

Let me clarify. I am not saying that CBI is the answer to the problem. I am instead calling out those who claim the case of the murdered teens is given preferred treatment by way of prompt handing over to the CBI.

Still waiting for 30 copies of my second book which returned to sender twice, also for another book sent to me for review, and today I received an email that a 100 dollar cheque sent as another tranche of royalty for my first book too has returned undelivered. Alas.

At Naypyidaw this day 2015. I was part of the 5-member Indian delegation at Naypyidaw for the signing of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement. Today, despite the 2021 Military coup, India was there again to commemorate the 2015 event.

My review of Samrat Choudhury's book on NE. Beautifully researched and written, but not without it's share of moles and warts, especially in some unwarranted conflation of the British maps of economic concerns and strategic concerns. Still, lovely read.

@MaxFisher895753 I am talking about identity per se, not any particular identity. Indian identity, American identity... all identities, are born out of stories people chose to belong to. Therefore resolving these frictions can be about these stories becoming more accommodative.
