First lets break down what JSR's art style is and what is not. The art style is broken into four main attributes. Black outline, cel shading, over exaggerated proportions and drawn textures. 2/8
What am I looking at here? These are just realistic humans with cel shading on them. These might as well be JSR outfits for some other game. These designs remove all the style of the games. 5/8
Games have done this before and were successful. Psychonauts even after a graphical upgrade still kept the things that make the game look like Psychonauts but at a higher fidelity. 7/8
In all of JSR art you can clearly see the style they were trying to create. Outline, overexaggerated proportions and cel shading. These aspects make up the jet set radio style. 4/8
You might be saying that this is the progression of the JSR style as graphics have gotten better and the older games looked like this because of the limitations of the time. But this is wrong. games on the dream cast and xbox had the abilities to look more realistic. 6/8
Games like borderlands have black outlines and hand drawn textures but uses soft shadows and normal human proportions. This has some components from JSR's art style but because of some differences it does not look like JSR and creates its own art style. 2/8
I started making

places and models all the way back in 2017 in Roblox. I was 16 at the time and had no idea I wanted to go into game development. I was just doing something fun for a summer and had no idea what it would lead too. 1/4
Wind Waker use some of the same methods as JSR but is the inverse of Borderlands. Wind Waker uses cel shading, over exaggerated proportions and hand drawn textures. By choosing different aspects it creates a different style. 3/8
