There was a car accident right in front of me. I get out to help assist. Do my initial assessment then call for Ems.. while on the phone Someone comes and pushes me out of the way and says I’m an ER nurse
Unpopular opinion: patients shouldn’t have access to the results in real time while in the ED.
Imagine sitting in a waiting room getting a text result with devastating, life alternating news…
I save specialist numbers with emojis..

& Yes I have one for urology & obgyn..
Me: “hi the pt you sent over from clinic is here.. what were your concerns?”
Them: “she just had multiple complaints, I know most are chronic but she will need imaging & I just figured it would be easier to get it all taken care of in the ER, you know?”
Me: “no, I don’t”
I feel like there needs to be a PSA about ERs.
I’m tired of seeing videos of people complaining about the ER, their waits, their lack of workups, and their recommendations to follow up outpatient…
@doctorORbust
You may be a stranger on my timeline but my heart breaks for you. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. I’m so so sorry. I hope you and your family find some comfort during this incredibly hard time.
What’s your go to when patients hit in you..? I used to awkwardly laugh and redirect the convo but now I don’t play games and say “I am your doctor and that’s not appropriate”
Over simplified cortical stroke syndromes..
I used to think that the urinary incontinence was because patient couldn’t make it to the restroom not because bladder is involved
7 years ago I was a wide eyed first year medical student touring around Grady.. And now I’m doing my last Grady shift of residency. It’s not goodbye… but a BRB 🥹
What something work related that you were told and believe but never confirmed… I’ll go first:
We don’t call it COWs anymore.. it’s WOWs because a patient thought someone was referring to them as a cow
Publix interaction
Worker: You’re a doctor right?
Me: yeah *awkward laugh* how’d you know
Worker: you took care of my grandma couple years ago in the trauma center, you were great. I’m sure you’re finished by now, huh?
Me: yeah. I sure miss it.
Worker: thank you again

I’ll never forget leaving a room, covered in blood after a terrible traumatic arrest just to be yelled at by an older woman.. when I tried to explain they said“I don’t care about them” smh
@PhysicianDoodle
I've got my "here's the purpose of the ER" speech memorized at this point. But I think a PSA would only work if everyone cared about others...I'm sick of the "what's that got to do with me" response to "I'm sorry you had to wait, someone was actively dying."
1/ I don’t think people realize just how hard it is being a resident during this pandemic. Residency is hard. Duh. But unlike generations before us.. there is no unwinding.. we dont get to go on vacays or spend time with our family..
Everyone always asks where is the resident, why isn’t the resident here but no one asks how is the resident or when was the last time the resident had a break or had something to eat
@RaechelFR
To push someone out the way? Def not an er response. Lol
There was an np there talking to the person I waited for her to finish to see what happened. Didn’t feel the need to push anyone out the way
Charge nurse: serious question
Me: what’s up
Charge: *looks back at group of nurses* we are all trying to guess how old you are. They’re saying 26 but you have to be like 30 right
Me: 26?! I was in my 2nd year of med school then. I’m 32
Nurse in background: yes! I knew it
My bf is an amazing doc for so many reasons.. nevermind the fact that he humbly saves people every day. anyone who knows him knows he’s great to work with. I have never met a doctor let alone a surgeon who isn’t upset when accidently called when they’re not on service (1/3)
Nicholas Winton saved 669 children from the Nazis. His efforts went unrecognized for 50 years. Then in 1988, while sitting among a TV audience, he suddenly found himself surrounded by the kids he’d saved, now adults.
Only amid darkness do we see the stars.

@arghavan_salles
Lol I think I was just too tired to be sassy back😂 but that was the least wild thing that happened to me today. Got a sign out when I went to see them wouldn’t take my advice ans said they only listen to males
Dear ER docs
I know we are busy.. but please write more than “ your labs were fine, follow up with your pcp and return if symptoms worsen” on your dc instructions (1/9)
A patient once told me they didn’t have a fib or atrial fibrillation , I asked why were they on metoprolol & xarelto
and they said for their irregular heart beats.
This is important
@MKIttlesonMD
I would say that a patient would appreciate a doctor using both the medical term followed by the definition or common knowledge term. Patients want to be educated by their practitioners.
Dos & Don’ts when sending a pt to the ER
-DO direct admits when you can & save your pt unnecessary costs & time
- DON’T tell a pt what they are going to get done when they come unless you plan on doing it yourself
