3 wks ago my younger cousin (a nurse) disclosed she wasnt vaxxed. she said she was scared. i told her why i believed it was safe & sent her talks by Kizzy on the virus/vax & by my Black male physician classmate on vax hesitancy in our community.
today she got her 1st dose 🤍🙏🏽

in case there was any confusion about consent...
1. NO MEANS NO.
1a. NO means NO even after a yes.
1b. maybe is not yes and should be treated as NO.
1c. silence is not yes and should be treated as NO.
2. consent can be revoked at any time. (see

this "Spirit of NINDS" NINDS Director's Award is the most meaningful award ive received in my NIH tenure bc it celebrates the ME i bring to the NINDS community (not just my work productivity) 🥰 *so thankful* for the many beloved colleagues who contributed to my nomination 🙏🏽🫶🏽
thank you to all the Black women who continue to relentlessly and courageously fight for accountability, justice, and change in systems that were designed to do exactly what they are doing 🙏🏽🖤

idk if humans are any worse off today than any other time in existence but having access to instant info to know about all the harm and suffering and chaos so many ppl are living thru is terribly disturbing and idk how to cope with it 😔

its mindblowing how often i hear non-POC scientists boldly claim they “cant find” UR STEM students or faculty - meanwhile so many come to

sooo much more to say & tackle but i think it underscores how bad we want to propel our institutions & funding agencies to WORK TO MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN!
my heart breaks more and more each minute bc there are countless moments filled with confirmation that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (read: mindourowndamnbusiness) aint for Black folks. and too many ppl in this country are okay with that.

whew its been a journey but im so excited this FOA is finally out!! pls 🗣️ spread the word to folks doing NIDA, NIMH, or NINDS-mission relevant research!

🙌🏽 im so proud my baby - the Neuro DR Program - has finally been birthed into the world!! if your university has an NINDS, NIDA, or NIDCR-funded T32, please have the PIs consider applying for this opportunity to have an institutional postbac program!
New FOA! R25 - Neuroscience Doctoral Readiness (DR.) Postbac Program (RFA-NS-22-035). Due April 19, 2022 This is a limited competition to funded T32s from participating ICs. Learn more:
some of yall are outraged around non-MDs being told to drop the “Dr” title while EYE am stuck on this obstreperous man referring to a grown ass woman as KIDDO...
im seeing outrage but... this BW told *her* story of delivering her baby in the car (unplanned) & deciding *herself* to carry on w/ a "flawless" defense (planned) bc she was prepared, confident, committed to that goal. she sounds empowered. is it believe/listen to BW or not?

#ACNP2021
this week what privileged/majoritarian faculty can do to support their minoritized peers and trainees - saying their name(s) in a room full of opportunities is a great micro-affirmation to practice
do NOT - and i cannot stress this enough - just *call* a program officer.
send an email to schedule a call and outline the specific topic(s) you want to address. include appropriate materials (i.e., specific aims, SS, biosketch) to help them prepare for the pending discussion.

ALL mentors have a responsibility to personalize their mentorship for each of their trainees. dont be “colorblind”- make the effort to respect BIPOC’s differences/needs and work hard not to marginalize them more.

for many women & POC, a major challenge to "succeeding" in a STEM career isnt being smart or capable enough but rather feeling like they belong in one. i work hard to combat that barrier. so i wrote a lil somethin somethin about that...🤗

trainees: this NIH Matchmaker tool is a great way to identify Program Officers with similar research projects in their portfolio to yours - you can then contact them about your interest in applying for funding opportunities best fit for your career stage/research interests
Are you an investigator looking for the right home for your grant? Matchmaker can help you find which NIH institutes & centers have funded similar work, and where that work was reviewed. 🔎
