A guy wrapped in toilet paper chanted "LETS WATCH THE MUMMY" over and over before the movie began. The audience booed him and he was mock-challenged to a death match by an audience member cosplaying Darth Vader. After the credits rolled, everyone was chanting "MUMMY".
Warner Bros. officially pulled the plug on "Scoob! Holiday Haunt," but the production is still recording an original score: "What do you do when the movie is canceled, but youโve already paid for the stage and the musicians? You record the damn score!โ
After years of doubt, indisputable proof that the kid from MAC and ME gets shot on camera in the Japanese release of the film. Paul Rudd and
@ConanOBrien
need to see this.
Re: Coppola and Scorsese coming out against Marvel Films and comparing them to โtheme park ridesโ. Something tells me they were way less critical of their buddies/contemporaries Spielberg and Lucas who essentially popularized that genre.
Shutting off advance tickets to RRR around 4:30 PM this afternoon. After that you'll need to grab the handful of tickets that remain at the box office. Get'em now:

Wow! Some people donโt believe my MUMMY story! Happened on opening day (not a midnight premiere) at the Sherway Gardens Cineplex Odeon in Etobicoke, Ontario. There was also someone dressed as a gold fish, but I donโt think they were going for a Mon Calamari. Wild screening!
Save the date Toronto! Sunday, June 26th. I'm in the midst of booking SS Rajamouli's RRR for a one-night only screening
@RoyalCinemaTO
. Cause even though I am drowning in work, I am compelled to ensure that this film screens theatrically in downtown Toronto.
no director credit hits quite as hard as the SS Rajamouli stamp - maybe the most iconic end title card since the days of SHAWSCOPE: ANOTHER SHAW PRODUCTION
This Sunday night at The Royal! Rare chance to see the Telugu language version of RRR!! - very close to selling out, and tickets cheaper if u buy in advance!
Once
#RRRMovie
leaves theaters, there will be no way to watch the complete original Telugu language version as seen on the big screen. So if it's still playing near you FUCKING GO
#encoRRRe
Had the great privilege to meet the great
@ssrajamouli
this afternoon. When I asked him if he might one day fulfil my long-held desire to portray an evil British officer that gets brutally murdered in one of his movies, it was suggested that I might be too Canadian for the role.
Just hit the InteRRRval of RRR. Hands hurt from clapping, eyes wet from unbridled joy. Just wanna clasp hands with all bros. Might be ripping my armrest out of my seat by the credits. Cinema is back baby!
tfw you are thrown from a helicopter + experience a 90 min flashback to your past life as a warrior in an ancient kingdom caught in the same love triangle that got you thrown out of a helicopter 400 years later...
SS Rajamouli's MAGADHEERA screens Sat:
THE PEOPLE'S JOKER RETURNS! For one night only in Toronto this November, bear witness to
@VeraDrew22
's critically acclaimed, and instant-
@mmadnesstiff
classic - with Vera Drew in attendance! Tickets now on sale:
Last night was special, and that it happened at all is a testament to the incredible determination of my colleagues at
@TIFF_NET
, especially
@cameron_tiff
, to support filmmakers in the face of complex circumstances. Thank you for always having my back!
Harvey Lalonde was a great connector champion of people from all corners of art communities - especially film. He supported me so much on my journey and I always tried to return the support and let him know how much it meant to be his friend.
Higher-res update to commemorate
#TurkeyDay
and
@MST3K
's THE GAUNTLET, which includes MAC AND ME (have yet to watch their riff, I suspect it sadly won't be this cut.)
there are concerns that the Royal Alexandra Theatre is too classy for Midnight Madness. counterpoint: its acronym is RAT, so you can be like "i'm gonna check out Midnight Madness at THE RAT tonight" and it sounds like you're going to some underground dive bar.
Tickets for Downtown Toronto's own "encoRRRe" screening of
@RRRMovie
NOW AVAILABLE! Special thanks to Yash Raj Films Canada,
@HatefulJosh
, &
@VarianceFilms
for helping with this booking:

Hot on the heels of that young "Spielberg" footage, here's a especially candid clip of an Attack of the Clones meeting where where an animator loses it on George. Shocking stuff!
I owe much of my career to Adam and
@TADFilmFest
. Iโm committed to ensuring the festivalโs return in 2025 and hoping Adam can join the community heโs built to celebrate great genre films together.
2024 FILM FEST POSTPONED TO OCTOBER 2025.
We regret to announce that the 18th Annual Toronto After Dark Film Fest has been postponed until Oct 15-19, 2025. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control have led to this decision. Full details at link:
This is incredible and vital preservation of that incredulous moment when Steven Spielberg directed Quentin Tarantino and Jennifer Aniston for an FMV filmmaking simulator shot by Dean Cundey & written by Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio. History thanks you Paolo, as audiences cringe.
๐ฝ๏ธNew(ish) Release
Steven Spielberg's Director's Choices
An interactive movie made with bootlegged footage from a terrible '90s CD-ROM.
Starring Quentin Tarantino, Jennifer Aniston, Penn and Teller.
GREAT TEXAS SWITCH ALERT:
In Peter Hyams' NARROW MARGIN (1990), Gene Hackman's double jumps out a window, but lands face first with his jacket over his head. He stumbles to his feet and runs (covering his face) until there's a cut into a different shot to reveal Hackman.
Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldnโt be more over-the-moon about; weโll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year.
Important moments in cinema history:
1986 - โThe Arrival of a Trainโ
1932 - Venice inaugurates the first film festival
1969 - โInvocation of my demon brotherโ screens at midnight at the Elgin
1988 - TIFF establishes the Midnight Madness section
2021 -
WOW! It is incredibly rare for a mainstream Hindi language genre film to debut at a western festival without distribution in place, so it's outstanding news that the gambit has paid off with a sale that secures it a THEATRICAL release from a Hollywood studio!!!
EXCLUSIVE: On the eve of AFM, Lionsgate has picked up North American and UK rights to Indian action movie โKillโ for theatrical release in 2024 (click photo below for story)

I saw a studio mogul shake their assistant as they pointed at the screening and shouted "stop them! stop them!", but their assistant could only meekly reply "we're trying but they're just too dank!"
Had a great time hosting + watching the new Breen, but gutted to hear that folks at the back were doing Tom Servo impressions to the annoyance of their neighbours. Laughter is welcome, applause is a must, but nothing you drunkenly yell is more interesting than what is on screen!
A true mind-melter. Like a lo-fi American HAUSU. Not since THINGS. Transcends perceived incompetence and feels like it is re-writing the grammar of the medium. A major discovery from
@DeclouxJ
(courtesy of an Important Cinema Club listener whose friend stars in it.)
ALMOST INVISIBLE (2010) is the most nightmarish film you can watch on Tubi this Halloween season.
I have not edited this at all.
Imagine witnessing this brain-sizzling editing/writing/acting style for 95 agonizing minutes.
IN A VIOLENT NATURE: If you need a slasher movie, this one will do the job. It's leisurely, almost languorous, but when the blood flows, it flows in buckets. The killer in his mask looks like the world's most terrifying Minion.
Once saw Oliver Stone's JFK with FX artist Gordon Smith in attendance. He wheeled out the stark naked anatomically-correct JFK prosthetic from the film's autopsy scene during the intro, and it was left on stage for the entire duration of the screening.
So there was already enough evidence to substantiate this already, but after RRR we can all agree that
@ssrajamouli
is the worldโs greatest contemporary action director, right??
Scott Wampler was a source of joy on this site and beyond. Adored his wit. We once worked together in collectively pitching Fantastic Fest to host a screening of TIMEKEEPERS OF ETERNITY + his passion was an infectious wonder to behold. My heart goes out to his friends + family.
Thereโs an alternate ending to โMac and Meโ where Eric is actually shot in the chest & groans in pain before slumping backwards in his wheelchair.
For
#TIFF21
, there will be no Midnights screenings on Sept. 9th, 13th and Sept. 17th... but you might want to keep your Midnight's free... just saying... and will say more soon...
Consider this the unofficial start of this yearโs Midnight Madness. This is the horror movie of the year, maybe the genreโs best studio release since Get Out. Go in blind and ready to gasp, laugh and scream.
I teed Conner O'Malley up for a perfect joke about pasta tonight. Coupled with getting 200+ people to celebrate
@MoternMedia
's LOCAL LEGENDS,
#TIFF24
might have peaked early for me. This is gonna be a fest for the history books!
For my
@mmadnesstiff
intro to THE PEOPLE'S JOKER, I remarked that its cynical (but not necessarily inaccurate) to see film festivals as a marketing arm for corporate interests; but they CAN be spaces where a community can gather to appreciate the personal expression of an artist.
@larissa_thomas
George was inconsolable and Marcia was so enraged he marched DePalma over to their house so he could personally apologize. DePalma subsequently rewrote the filmโs opening crawl in order to make amends.
@rianjohnson
Reread this after watching TLJ, and this passage jumped out of me. Considering a rather memorable line from your film, I'm wondering if it jumped out you too.
Hey,
@CineplexMovies
- you really should replace/fix the speakers in Cinema 8. It appears to be the only place to see TรR outside your VIP cinemas, and unfortunately multiple speakers were distorting into abrasive static whenever there was a sudden orchestral crescendo.
HAPPY

DAY!
Very proud to have been apart of this twisted love-letter to

programming blocks of the early 90s. You can find it on VOD and Digital platforms, but consider supporting indie cinema streams like

!
I need someone who has seen DOLITTLE to let me know if thereโs a scene where some animal stoically remarks as RDJ sheds a single tear: โyou know, your name may be Dolittle, but you certainly have done a lot.โ
@VeraDrew22
๐ฅบ- it was such a profound pleasure & privilege to support you and your collaborators. Iโm grateful for all the people who helped me along the way as well; it took a village. Now that itโs inspired a movement, maybe it will be a little easier to share your story with the world!๐ค
best films of 2022 lists without Magic Spot, Hundreds of Beavers, The People's Joker, Barber Westchester, Honeycomb, Leonor Will Never Die, and RRR (naturally) are sus.
Before the Madness, there will be Dankness. On Sept. 4th, the fourth annual Midnight Dankness marathon will commence with a delirious playlist of remix art and cult cinema.
