Dental's Dr. Michel Koo and the School of Engineering has led to the development of microscopic robotic systems that can destroy biofilms; applications could range from cleaning teeth and water pipes to catheters.
Dr. Taewan Kim was awarded a K08 award the from National Institute of Health. This is the only K08 award to be given in recent memory to a member of Penn Dental Medicine.

Dr. Jeanne Sinkford (Howard, 1958) was the first female dean of a dental school. She was the dean at Howard University, beginning in 1975.
Jenna Panek (D’23), Ayesha Khan (D’23), and Julie Berenblum (D’23) have all been named 2023 Delta Dental Community Scholars! In recognition of their achievements and future plans post-graduation, each received a sizeable scholarship.

PDM received a $2.6M NIH grant in an effort to support the development of the next generation of dental implants. Dr. Geelsu Hwang's implant is meant to have a lower risk of implant failure, compared to conventional implants by preventing infections. Visit
