Earlier this week my 78 year old mom was the victim of a scam. She noticed some small charges on her Amazon Prime account, so she called to tell them she didn't make the charges. The call was dropped, then she received a call back from "Amazon." 1/15

You have to know that my mom is one of the smartest people I know. Growing up, she was fierce; she took no BS from anyone and suffered no fools. So this scam and subsequent ordeal has rocked her to her core. My heart breaks for her; 9/15

But Ms. Freedom recovered nearly $2,000 for my mom! We had lovely conversations over the 2+ hours we were on the phone together. She then called me the next day to try and recover the last gift card, but it was too soon for Apple's system, so she's calling 7/15

And this is the problem with big corporations. While fraud may be an everyday occurrence to them, for their customers like my mom, it is a devastating ordeal. This scammer was able to take just about everything she had in the bank. 13/15

to know that you were once a strong, independent person, and now you often don't know what's going on or how to handle situations on your own must be incredibly difficult to reconcile with. It has made her understand that she's at a point where I need to take over. 10/15

The problem we're having now is with Amazon. I can not get a real person on the phone to report this fraud to. I just called them, and after a 10-minute hold, my call was dropped, and there has been no attempt from them to reach out to me. 12/15

Ms. Freedom is an angel. She works with dementia and Alzheimer patients in her spare time. She spent hours on the phone with me; she locked 6 of the 7 Apple gift cards my mom bought. Sadly, one of them in the amount of $500 had been spent. 6/15

@cmclymer I just grabbed one earlier this afternoon at my local Target! They had about 4 more. I'm headed to my booster appt but I'm happy to stop by and see if they still have them!

And back then, the other choice was "Hispanic," but I had people tell me that I couldn't claim that because of my light skin and eyes. My teen years felt like a constant desire to belong to some group while not feeling accepted by any. 8/9

Growing up, Mami was told the family was white. Lots of family stories about being able to trace their roots back to Spain and maybe Italy. In the 70s, she moved to CA, and for the first time, had people tell her she wasn't white. This blew her mind. 2/9

I am 47 years old. The other day, I asked my nena to hand me a nail file. But I couldn't remember what it's called, so I said, "Hand me the stabby thing." Who doesn't forget a word here and there at any age?! I'm still riding with Biden.
