Long thread: Contrary to what most Protestants claim, the word θεόπνευστος which Paul uses to describe scripture in 2 Timothy 3:16 is not reserved for scripture by the early church. As incredible as it may sound to some, the Fathers did not limit divine inspiration to scripture.

I think a lot of the hang-ups about prayer to saints stems from a deeper problem; the idea that the afterlife is static. In reality, the blessed are *alive*, vivified, enjoying a foretaste of the eternal reign that is to come, where the saved *participate* in Christ’s rule.

Really, this isn’t hard. When, on a matter of faith or morals, popes speak ex cathedra, or when they simply reiterate what has always been taught by the Church for millennia, they are infallible. When they make novel utterances in a non-ex cathedra context, they can err.

The Old Testament is not less important than the New Testament. It is not less inspired or less relevant to us, in fact it was written for our instruction as Paul says. Read the Old Testament; the ritual laws, conquest accounts, minor prophets etc are all God’s written word.
