Me and Andy McNab, after a parachute jump into the Tasman Sea off New Zealand. This is two years prior to the 1991 Gulf War, in which Andy would command patrol Bravo Two Zero and I'd serve as second-in-command on Bravo Three Zero.
We honor Warrant Officer John Thompson, an SAS hero of the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege and Falklands War. His courage and dedication will never be forgotten. A true hero, his legacy lives on in those who knew him and in the history of special forces.
Rest in peace, warrior.
May 5, 1980, when the masked figure was seen by millions on the balcony of the Iranian Embassy, the man in black was Sergeant John McAleese who led the frontal assault that brought a dramatic end to the hostage crisis that had been gripping the nation for six days.

Sgt. Mel Parry, in respirator and black overalls and armed with a Heckler & Koch MP5 sub- machinegun, climbed from an adjacent balcony to force an entrance to the Iranian embassy, Mel was leader of the Special Air Service “balcony team” which made the assault in May 1980

30th April 1980 The Iranian Embassy siege took place after a group of six armed men stormed the Iranian embassy on Prince's Gate in South Kensington, London.
The gunmen, Iranian Arabs campaigning for sovereignty of Khuzestan Province, took 26 people hostage

Having a natter with the boss. We're conferring on tactics. The WWII founders stressed the concept of merit above rank and that the SAS would be a classless institution.
True to form, you can see by the body language that this is a conversation of equals.
Ready to raise merry hell - yours truly, Des Powell, Nothing remotely like the Gulf War deployment had been tried by the SAS since WWII, and the days of SAS founders Colonels David Stirling and Blair Paddy Mayne deploying in fleets of specially-adapted, heavily-armed Land Rovers.
B Squadron deployed from the UK to the (UAE), for high-intensity desert training, which included deploying in cumbersome NBC (nuclear, biological and chemical) protective gear, known as noddy suits. Bravo Three Zero's signaller, with yours truly, Des Powell, second from right.
Pictured during the nightmarish escape and evasion phase of SAS selection, yours truly Des Powell second from left. Injured by a viciously-spiked tree on the jungle phase, I would have to attempt selection twice, before finally making it into the Regiment.

During counter-terrorism training, wearing all the specialist black kit on CT operations, the pistol often proved the better weapon for close-quarter combat. When B Squadron were scrambled for Iraq operations in 1991, we'd spent months on CT duties.

At some point, everything will go south on you. In that moment, choose resilience over defeat. True strength is revealed in adversity. Keep pushing forward—setbacks are just stepping stones to growth.
Fear can seem overwhelming from afar, stretching out like a vast, impassable barrier. But when you step closer and confront it, you realize it's not as deep as it appears.
Training with Norway’s special forces we learned how to survive with sub-zero temperatures and extremely hostile conditions, few of us ever expected Iraq in 1991 to suffer heavy snowfall and freezing, life-sapping conditions.

On 8 May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced that the war in Europe had ended. On VEDay, we remember those who fought and died to protect our freedom. Nearly eight decades on we remember the many British, personnel who liberated a continent from tyranny.
Princess Diana 1961 - 1997, her activism and innate sense of compassion made her a global icon, admired for her strength, elegance, and the lasting impact she left on the world. Her legacy endures as a symbol of empathy, resilience, and the power of kindness.

The fastest way to know if something will work for you is to step up and try it. No amount of planning or pondering can replace action. Embrace the unknown, test your limits, and learn from every experience. It’s through action that clarity and growth emerge.

On VEDay we remember the bravery and sacrifice of the Greatest Generation.
This year we commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day and recall the extraordinary events which led to the liberation of Western Europe.
We must never forget the price paid for our freedom and values.
We honour the 80th anniversary of D-Day and remember the courage & sacrifice of the soldiers who fought for our freedom. To the soldiers that stepped up to the mark & laid down their life's so that we can live in a better world, we owe you everything... we will remember them.

on the up coming release of SAS Daggers Drawn! Completing this epic SAS wartime trilogy is a remarkable achievement. I’m sure the final showdown in France and Nazi Germany will captivate readers just like the first two. Can't wait to dive in!
So pleased to announce, coming 24/10/24, SAS Daggers Drawn, the third in the epic SAS wartime trilogy, after SAS Brothers In Arms and SAS Forged in Hell - join the bravest of the brave behind enemy lines for the final showdown in France and Nazi Germany.
On this solemn day, we honor the memory of the thousands of innocent lives lost on 9/11. We salute the unwavering courage and sacrifice of first responders and citizens who faced danger to save others. Their bravery reminds us even in the darkest moments, true strength endures.
We’ve two ears and one mouth, hence, it’s good practice to listen more, especially when in the presence of the de facto historian

Success isn't about grand gestures, it's about showing up every day and putting in the work. Consistency is everything.
The daily grind may not be glamorous, but it's what separates those who dream from those who achieve.🏆
