We are aware of the planned protests taking place outside of hospitals today. This is very concerning to all health-care workers and patients.
Please take a moment to read a brief thread.

As a hospital, we have a duty to care for and protect our patients, staff, and communities. Masking requirements will remain in effect across The Ottawa Hospital campuses, ensuring the safety of all patients and staff.
We would like to thank first responders and our regional partners for their action and collaboration during this incident, as well as our staff and physicians for continuing to help those in need.
Our thoughts are with all of those affected by the collision at Westboro Station.
Being in the hospital doesn’t stop Daniel McGlinchey from achieving his goals!
He ran a marathon (44 km, to be exact) by doing laps of the unit where he is staying.
Some of the staff decided to surprise him at the finish line... with a few tears.
Way to go, Daniel! 👏🏻
It’s official!
The Ottawa Hospital delivered the first COVID-19 vaccination in Ottawa.
Jo-Anne Miner, Personal Support Worker at St. Patrick’s Home, was the first to receive the vaccine!
“This is will help create a safe space for me, my colleagues, and the residents.”
We couldn’t let Dr. Jack Kitts walk out of the hospital for the last time as President and CEO without a proper send-off ... masks included, of course!
Watch as staff show their appreciation for everything the has done.
Thank you, Jack!
The Ottawa Hospital is experiencing increased pressures on both Emergency Departments and ambulance offload processes. This is primarily due to COVID-19 outbreaks, combined with staffing shortages related to COVID-19 illness or exposure. 1/3
We’re taking a page from the book of
@ottawahealth
and using the trusty Twitter thread to share an update on the current COVID-19 situation in our hospital, and hospitals throughout the community.
Please take a minute to read this... [1/9]
Due to recent Emergency Department closures in our region, The Ottawa Hospital’s Emergency Departments will likely experience higher-than-usual patient volumes, which will result in much longer wait times. [1/4]
It helps protect our health-care system from being overwhelmed, and ensures that health-care workers can continue to care for those most in need.
Thank you for your time!

Staff and physicians at The Ottawa Hospital have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to protect those most at risk in our community. They all deserve to come into work safely, free from risk or harm.
2/7
While we respect everyone’s right to free speech, we disagree with the position that these demonstrators have taken.
We encourage everyone to get vaccinated, as it is the best form of protection from serious illness, hospitalization and death due to COVID-19.
5/7
Hospitals have received tremendous community support throughout the pandemic; from food and coffee, to wonderful signs and messages. Now, the community can show their support for health-care workers by getting vaccinated.
6/7
Those demonstrating outside of the hospital are putting not only staff and physicians at risk, but also the hundreds of patients who come to the hospital for care every day.
3/7
An update on the patients in our care, related to the collision at Westboro Station: The patients previously in critical condition have been moved to serious condition. Thank you to everyone for your well wishes towards patients and their families.
Between approximately 12am-2am this morning, Firefighters & staff from the
@OttawaHospital
moved 17 neonatal ICU babies from the 8th floor ICU down the stairs to be taken to
@CHEO
due to the power loss. Most of the babies were under 1000 grams (2.2 pounds).
Also, prior to
The hospital has increased its security presence, to protect staff, physicians and patients, and ensure that patient care is not impacted by the planned protests.

Staff at the COVID-19 Assessment Centre at Brewer Arena have been hard to work, seven days a week, to help keep the community safe.
Want to help them? Continue to stay home when possible and practice physical distancing!
We’re all in this together. Stay safe!

Staff at The Ottawa Hospital work tirelessly every day to provide the care and compassion that we would all want for our loved ones. When you come to us for care, we are here for you. But please remember to be kind to those providing this care. (1/5)
Thank you very much to

for your generous donation to our ICU. 💜
Fueled by our delicious lunch, we will continue to provide world-class care to our community!

Staff at The Ottawa Hospital are hard at work preparing for COVID-19.
Today, they ran a simulation case at the Civic Campus Emergency Department to test processes and identify areas of improvement.
This is all to ensure that they are ready to care for those in need.

We have some good news! There are currently 0 active COVID-19 cases admitted at The Ottawa Hospital!

Assessment Centre at Brewer Arena opened!
Staff at The Ottawa Hospital and
@CHEO
set up the centre in a matter of days back in March, and have since tested over 30K people.
Thank you to all of the frontline workers who stepped up!
Dr. Jack Kitts, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital, was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada today, recognizing his strong leadership at The Ottawa Hospital and within Ontario’s health-care system.
Congratulations, Dr. Kitts!
#OrderOfCanada
After almost 20 years as President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital, Dr. Jack Kitts officially retires this week.
He will be missed by everyone who has worked with him. But in his mind, health care is in great hands.
Read his message to the community:
ICU nurses and staff have very specific skills that take months to develop. We cannot train new ICU staff overnight.
To ensure that everyone who comes to hospital, and to ICU, continues to receive the care they need, we must slow the spread of COVID-19. [5/9]
Our Neonatal ICU babies are in the process of being transferred back to the General Campus. 💙
We’re extremely grateful to the teams at
@OttawaFire
and
@CHEO
for their tremendous support in ensuring the safety of our most vulnerable patients.
Did you wake up today with a little uncertainty about how to take care of yourself & others, with smoke from wildfires in the air? Here are a few things to know ⬇️
Around the world, hospitals have been struggling to cope with the pandemic.
In Ottawa, this hospital clerk wanted to boost spirits. So he started using the hospital's paging system to sing Christmas carols for the entire unit.
He's been doing it every day ever since.
The Ottawa Hospital currently has 1 patient in critical condition, 6 patients in serious condition, and 4 patients in stable condition, related to yesterday’s collision at Westboro Station.
#OttNews
We need your help, Ottawa. We’ve seen your wonderful messages of thanks, encouragement and hope throughout the pandemic (and we appreciate them so much).
But this is how you can help us now: follow public health guidance and the provincial stay-at-home order. [6/9]
Over the course of this evening, The Ottawa Hospital received a total of 12 patients to our Civic Campus and 6 patients to our General Campus.
We currently have 7 patients in critical condition, and 9 patients in stable condition, across both campuses.
We’re officially live with our new digital health system, bringing compassionate care into the digital age!
Our care providers will have real-time access to patient medical information, improving patient-centred care.

The Ottawa Hospital has called a Code Orange -- General only, due to the fire and its impact on our operations.
The fire has been contained but we are currently unable to resume normal operations at this time as well as patient demands from the Emergency Department. 1/3

Hi Ottawa,
As the current COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, this wave is unlike anything we have seen during this pandemic, at the hospital & in our community. We've had to make changes to how we operate. As much as we hate to say it – it's not business as usual.
(1/13)
We know you’re tired. We are all tired. But we can see that light at the end of the tunnel.
Let’s stay home, and reduce the spread of COVID-19, giving vaccines the opportunity to protect our community.
And of course, get vaccinated as soon as you are eligible! [8/9]
The Ottawa Hospital is currently experiencing higher than usual patient volumes, which means we need to adapt to provide the best care possible.

Meet Angus, a very good boy, helping to keep patients safe!
He's the first certified dog in Canada who detects C. difficile in hospitals, providing an education opportunity for health-care workers and cleaning staff.
Along with

Thank you to staff at the Assessment Centre, who work tirelessly to keep our community safe!
After Friday’s collision, volunteer therapy dogs and their handlers jumped at the chance to visit staff and patients.
Michael and his dog Copain stopped by the Trauma and Intensive Care Units at the Civic Campus today, delivering some much-needed smiles.
Thank you!
Hospital staff are tired. They have been working hard throughout the pandemic to keep our community safe, but they are only human.
And with the increase in demand for health-care workers in hospitals and the community, they are stretched thin. [3/9]

We are afraid that, as the case numbers continue to rise in the community, things will become even more concerning in hospitals.
We have already begun implementing plans to increase ICU capacity, but space and ventilators are not the issue. Staffing is the issue. [4/9]
To better meet the diverse needs of the community we serve, our hospital now provides all patients with adhesive bandages that complement a variety of skin tones.
We’ve got you covered:
Of course, essential workers need to leave the house for work. They need your help too. If you can stay home, please stay home.
It keeps those who need to leave home safe, and protects the staff and patients in our hospitals. [7/9]

The Ottawa Hospital is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Rebecca Auer as Executive Vice-President of Research and Innovation at The Ottawa Hospital and CEO and Scientific Director of the hospital’s research institute.

We can’t thank our staff and community partners enough for all they have done and continue to do to support our patients and staff.

The COVID-19 situation in hospitals is concerning.
Hospitalizations are rising steadily, as cases increase in the community. We often see a spike in hospitalizations 7-10 days after cases increase in the community.
This means there is no sign of things slowing down. [2/9]
For emergencies, please call 911 or visit your nearest Emergency Department.
For non-urgent medical issues, please consider visiting a walk-in clinic, urgent care centre, make an appointment with your family doctor, or call Tele-Health Ontario at 811. [3/4]
